    how to complain about them too. But

    sometimes we lose focus of what we do

    have, and how fortunate we are.

    OverthepastmonthIvehadthepleasure

    ofhostinganumberofhighprofileoverseas

    clients from Australia, New Zealand, Ro-

    mania and Austria.

    They have travelled independently and

    all passed through the Western Cape,

    where theyhave tasted theusual tourist at-

    tractions: Table Mountain, Robben Island,

    Cape Point, Gansbaai shark cage diving,

    the Winelands, and so on.

    Theyhavealsovisitedsomeoftheprivate

    game lodges in Sabi Sands and Kruger

    Park.

    Without exception they were all totally

    blownawaybytheWesternCape.Andwhat

    touched them wasnt just the usual tourist

    attractions. Itwas thepeople. Itwas thenat-

    ural beauty. It was what most of us take

    for granted every day.

    AsapropertyownerintheWesternCape,

    and specifically the Helderberg Basin, you

    may have wondered whether the grass is

    greener on the other side whether you

    should consider a move to a place that we

    perceive as having fewer issues.

    The reality is that we live in one of the

    most magnificent areas on the planet. Our

    geographic location, nestled up against

    lush mountain slopes and the sparkling

    ocean, and hugged on the side by world-

    class vineyards, is truly special.

    But dont forget the people.Weknow that

    things take longer in theWesternCape,and

    its a given that service levels in many in-

    stances need to improve. But the people of

    theWesternCapearefriendlyandvisitors

    are totally taken by the warmth of Capeto-

    nians.

    What does that mean for real estate? It

    means that other people envy us they can

    see the attraction to living here. This is

    borne out by the strong flow of purchasers

    from Gauteng and KZNwho still stream to

    the Western Cape.

    At Harcourts Platinum roughly one in

    eight buyers are relocating here from else-

    where in South Africa.

    That means there is consistent demand

    for local property. And thats healthy as

    strong demand and diminishing supply

    means upwards pressure on prices. That

    makes property ownership a good invest-

    ment, especially in the Helderberg Basin.

    Its only human to get frustrated about

    service delivery, protests and increased

    costs. But think big picture.

    Therewill be issues and problemswher-

    ever we live. But in most cases they are

    a small price to pay for living in this amaz-

    ing place we call home.

    A few of my visitors made a comment

    that took me by surprise: Thank you for

    not leaving.

    I thought about that for a while and it

    hit me that its a message we should be

    sharing with all those that have been able

    to stay here and who contribute towards

    making this a better society.

    Weareprivileged to live in thisbeautiful

    place and we are wise to invest in it. Visi-

    tors leave vowing to return and spend just

    a little time in this amazing place we call

    home.

    Granted,noteveryone living in theWest-

    ernCapeenjoys thesamestandardof living

    something that needs to changewith time

    but many of us have the ability to enjoy

    it.

    So, instead if focusing on all the negative

    issues, why not spread some positivity

    about the Western Cape Lets do our bit

    to make things better. And reflect on the

    benefits of property ownership in an area

    that overseas visitors rate as truly world

    Citron has chosen the Goodwood Festival

    ofSpeed, theannualmeetingofhistoricrac-

    ing cars, to reveal its new concept car: Cit-

    ron DS3 Cabrio Racing, a nod at Citrons

    involvement in theWRC.The carsnextap-

    pearance will be in Germany at the Frank-

    furt Motor Show in September.

    The Citron DS3 Cabrio Racing was also on

    show in Sussex at last weeks Goodwood Festi-

    valofSpeed,Britainsemblematicmotorsports

    meeting.Thenewconceptcarcombinesthebest

    of the Citron DS3 Racing with the sophistica-

    tion of the DS3 Cabrio.

    This is a choice that makes sense, since the

    Citron DS3 Cabrio is not only easy to custom-

    ise, it also features optimised architecture

    (weighing in at just 25 kgmore than the hatch-

    back), for an exceptionally lively and agile per-

    formance, as demonstrated by Sbastien Loeb

    himself at Col du Corbier in the French Alps

    a few weeks ago.

    People planning to visit the Volkswagen

    Group South Africas manufacturing fac-

    tory in Uitenhage can expect a tour with

    style and in comfort.

    The Volkswagen FactoryTour is now mo-

    bile, allowing visitors to rest their feet, sit

    back and enjoy the ride while witnessing the

    intricate manufacturing process of the cur-

    rent best-sellingpassenger cars inSouthAfri-

    ca, the Polo and Polo Vivo.

    The new FactoryTour vehicle was custom

    built by two VolkswagenMotorsport employ-

    ees using recycled and unused car parts from

    the factory.Theirnovel approachand ingenu-

    ity inmanufacturing a vehicle by using three

    incomplete cars, have resulted in a comforta-

    ble, practical and stylish vehicle.

    We were initially planning to outsource

    the project, but we changed our minds after

    realising we had a vast amount of experience

    in the company, which we could tap for our

    ambitious project. The decision to use inter-

    nal expertise saved the company money and

    delivered world-class, quality work that we

    are very proud of, said Matt Gennrich, Gen-

    eralManagerofCommunicationsatVolkswa-

    gen South Africa.

    It took Johnny Allen and Cobus Barnard

    from Volkswagen Motorsport over three

    months to complete the three cars. Each car

    tooknearly30daystocomplete.Wespentmost

    of thetimedesigning,sourcingpartsandman-

    ufacturing the cars, explainedBarnard,who

    hasbeenwithVolkswagenfornearly10years.

    The vehicle was built using spare material

    and parts from theMotorsport workshop and

    factory. We used left-over paint from the ral-

    ly cars, spare nuts and bolts as well trim off-

    cuts to deck out the cars. We built the chassis

    out of old tyre racks, which we cut into re-

    quired lengths. The side panels and doors

    were moulded from scrapped parts from the

    factory, added Barnard.

    The FactoryTour vehicle can comfortably

    seat 21 people and is pulled by an electric tow

    motor.

    In the past five years, nearly 43 000 people

    have visited the Volkswagen manufacturing

    factory, and Gennrich said the FactoryTour

    vehicle would help speed up the factory tours

    especially with senior citizens, who some-

    times struggle to walk around the factory.

    We hope the vehicle will give our visitors

    a comfortable and memorable tour of our fa-

    cilitywherewebuildworld-class cars, added

    Gennrich.

    The FactoryTours take place during week-

    days. There are two tours on Monday to

    Thursday at 09:00 and 12:00. On Friday, there

    newE 63AMGisnowalsoavailableasapar-

    ticularly exclusive and powerful S-Model

    with an output of 430 kW and 800 Newton

    metres of torque.

    TheAMG 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine contin-

    ues tobe theabsolutepinnacleof efficiency: the

    combination of high performance and low fuel

    consumption remains unrivalled by any other

    competitor in this segment worldwide. The

    powerful V8 engine has been uprated from

    386 kW and 700 Nm to 410 kW and 720 Nm of

    torque.With this range,Mercedes-AMG is pre-

    miering high-performance passenger car mod-

    els geared for driving dynamics.

    The launch of the newhigh-performance, ex-

    clusiveS-Model brings anevenmoreattractive

    proposition than the AMG Performance pack-

    ages, which have enjoyed great popularity to

    date. The S-Model forms an integral part of the

    newAMGmodel rangeconstellationasdistinc-

    tive model variants; additional AMG high-per-

    formanceautomobileswillbecomeavailableas

    S-Models in future. The E 63 AMGs appeal is

    also boosted by substantially enhanced value

    for money: customers now receive more per-

    formance and driving dynamics and a broader

    scope of standard equipment and appoint-

    ments. ThenewE 63AMGalsopresents amore

    dynamic appearance than its predecessor. The

    newAMGdesignphilosophyisimmediatelyap-

    parent at first glance, with the twin blade ra-

    diatorgrilleand theA-wing in theAMGfront

    aprondefiningtheexclusivelook.ThetopAMG

    model is available locally as a sedan variant.

    Acceleration to 100 km/h from a standing

    start in 4,1 seconds provides the E 63 AMGS

    withacomfortableleadovertheentirecompeti-

    tion;thetopspeedstandsat250 km/h(electroni-

    cally limited).

    On the new S-Model the AMG 5.5-litre V8

    biturboenginegenerates amaximumoutput of

    430 kWandmaximumtorqueof800 Newtonme-

    tres representing an increase of 20 kW over

    theAMGPerformance packagewhichwas pre-

    viously available as an option. This enhanced

    performance and power results from adapta-

    tion of the engine application, an increase in

    peakpressure anda rise in the chargepressure

    from 0.9 to 1.0 bar. At 410 kW and 720 Nm, the

    basicmodelalsoboastsanincreaseof24 kWand

    20 Nm over its predecessor.

    Despite added power and enhanced perform-

    ance, allmodels of theE 63 AMGoffer high effi-

    ciency, low fuel consumption and low exhaust

    emissions.TheAMG5,5. litreV8biturboengine

    remains themostefficientseriesproductionV8

    engine around with substantiallymore cubic

    capacity than its direct competitors. The

    E 63 AMG rated at 410 kW with rear-wheel

    driverunson9,8 litresof fuelper100kilometres

    in accordance with NEDC (230 grams of CO2).

    TheS-Modelratedat430 kWhasonlymarginal-

    ly higher fuel consumption, at 9,8 to 9,9 litres

    per 100 km (232 grams of CO2). On top of this,

    following the implementation of internal en-

    ginemeasures all E 63 AMGsmeet the require-

    ments of the stringent Euro 6 emissions stand-

    ard which will not take effect before 2015.

    surround sound system

    A very special highlight among the optional

    equipment and appointments is the Bang &

    Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround-

    soundsystem,developedbyMercedes-Benzand

    Mercedes AMG together with renowned Dan-

    ish audio specialist. The sound system brings

    an exclusive audio experience of the very high-

    est standard.

    As with all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, it

    comes with the standard class-leading Premi-

    umDrive maintenance package of six-
