The Community Council recommends that the Board of Education approve the II/USP action plan for O’Farrell Community School. Summary of Previous Board of Education Discussion and Action: In September 2000, O’Farrell accepted an invitation to participate in the Immediate Intervention/Underperforming Schools Program. O’Farrell staff identified an organization from the state-approved list of external evaluators to conduct an external evaluation and prepare an action plan. On November 14, 2000 the Board approved the contract for RPP International to provide external evaluation services for O’Farrell. Summary of Key Issue(s): The Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999 (SB1X) requires each school participating in the Immediate Intervention/Underperforming Schools Program (II/USP) to prepare an action plan to address student achievement issue at the school. The report requests Board approval of the action plan for O’Farrell Community School (charter school). Fiscal Analysis: There are no general fund budget implications associated with this report. O’Farrell expenses associated with the external evaluation and action planning processes were covered by the $50,000 school-planning grant. Following district and state governing board approval of the action plan, O’Farrell will receive an implementation grant of up to $200 per student.
