BULLETIN BOARDA bulletin board is the display board which shows the visual learning material on a specific subject. It is usually in the form of a framed soft board with the help of thumb tacks.

BULLETIN BOARD:

Generally, bulletin boards have a blue blazer cloth to work as the back drop and their most recommended size is 1.5 m x 2 m.

It will be used for both informational and educational purposes.

DEFINITION:

• “A bulletin board is the display board which shows the visual learning material on a specific subject.”

• “ It is a simple type of display board placed

either indoor or outdoor, to display all kind of creative work of the student” (Neeraja KP )

PURPOSES OF BULLETIN BOARD:

• Attract the attention of the student.• Effective communication of the intended

message. • Promotes the creativity of the students and

the teachers.• Used as an effective educational media• Can be used for a larger audience.

PRINCIPLES IN USE OF BULLETIN BOARD :

• A board for posting notice should be kept separate from those of current study and events.

• Suggested plan for placement is near educational administrator’s office, library or study room or main wards.

• Material should be dated.• Board should be divided into sections.• It should be kept a little above the eye level.

• The material should be changed frequently and systematically.

• Student contribution should be encouraged.• The contribution should be well labelled.• The appearance must be neat, orderly and

attractive manner.• Crowding of display material has to be

avoided.

USES OF BULLETIN BOARD IN NURSING EDUCATION:

• As an aid to classroom teaching to display the unit plans in the corridor, the recreation room and the library for educational purpose.

• In outpatient clinics, patient education may be facilitated by appropriate use of bulletin board.

• The clinical conference room in the hospital, ward, as a correlation between classroom and clinical learning experience.

ADVANTAGES OF BULLETIN BOARD:

• Bulletin boards work as a good supplement to normal classroom teaching.

• Bulletin boards arouse student’s interest.• Bulletin boards add colour and liveliness to

the classroom as they have decorative value along with educational value.

• Bulletin board display can be used to introduce the topic and as well to review it.

• Bulletin board makes available to students or public, those materials, of which there is only one copy.

• Bulletin board may be placed wherever required on a classroom wall, in the corridor of the college, or public building, or at an information centre.

DISADVANTAGES OF BULLETIN BOARD:

• Bulletin board cannot be used for all inclusive

teaching.• Bulletin board has to be used only as a

supplementary aid.• At times the collection of relevant material for

certain specific topics may be difficult.• Arranging the display material on the board may be a

challenging task for the teacher, as it requires artistic and creative potentialities.

• If not used properly, may fail in its purpose to convey the central theme.

NOTICE BOARD

DEFINITION:

• “A board that has announcement and other information on it”.

• “A board on a wall on which notices can be fixed”. (Advanced learner dictionary)

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NOTICE BOARD:

• Sizes of the board- The notice board come in various size and kinds. The type and size used will depend on the purpose for which it is used and the approximate number of people it will serve.

• Material required for notice board: wooden wood

or cardboard or ply wood or thermo coal, colour papers, flannel cloth, gum or fevicol, straight or coloured pins, letters, material, notice etc.
