Christ the King Sunday “And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but
this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when
you cone into your kingdom.” -Luke 23:41-42
Today is the last Sunday of the year of grace 2006-2007. As the liturgical year ends, we are pointed toward the end of time itself and the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, King of all the uni-verse. Though some regard this time with fear and anxiety, the liturgies of the Church encourage us to look forward to this time with hope. In fact, we recall that part of our Christian tradition is to actually long for—to actively pray for– the end of the world as we know it and the return of Christ in glory. The reading for this last Sunday of the year, the day on which we honor Christ our King, we hear a Gospel that could be perplexing to some: the account of Jesus crucified. The Gospel begins in the middle of the account of the Passion. Luke recounts the event by which an inscription is placed over Jesus’ head announcing, “This is the King of the Jews.” This scene is the heart of the Gospel for today. This King, this ruler of all creation whose return we await, and even look forward to, is one who hangs on a cross and is executed. The first reading, taken from the second book of Samuel tells of the anointing of David as king. This is the image of king that Jesus came to fulfill. His reign became the epitome of the kingdom which Israel would forever hope to have established again, symbolizing the fullness of God’s promises to his people. Psalm 122 is a processional song of praise sung upon entering the holy city Jerusalem. The second reading from Colossians also speaks of the kingdom of Christ. Paul exhorts the Colossians to give thanks to God for having brought us into the kingdom of his Son through whom we have redemption in the forgiveness of our sins. Paul further preaches that it was through Christ that everything in heaven and on earth was created: all other powers, dominions, and principalities.
Christmas Food Baskets The St. Vincent de Paul conference of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta is collecting non-perishable food for the Christmas baskets. These baskets are given to our homebound pa-rishioners and regular Food Panty families. Items needed include: instant mashed potatoes, canned vegetables and fruit, cake mixes and frosting, and any non-perishable food items you would like to donate. Monetary donations are also appreciated. All Christmas Food Basket donations are due by Friday, December 14th in the morning. Please consider bringing a donation to church on Sunday to help fill our Christmas baskets and give someone a delicious meal.

The Giving Tree The Giving Tree will be up in both churches this weekend, Christ the King Sunday. The ornaments represent needs for the children of
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and local area homebound individuals and families cared for by the St. Vincent de Paul Conference of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. Please select one (or more) ornaments, purchase the item indicated and return the wrapped gift with the ornament firmly attached (so we know which group the gift is marked for). You may return the gift to church, under the Giving Tree, or to the parish office during office hours. The gifts need to returned by Wednesday, December 12th to ensure their timely distribution. Please note that some of the ornaments may indicate that the item should not be wrapped. If you cannot return the gift by December 12th, please let the parish office know which ornament it is by calling 966-2191. Thank you for sharing the spirit and joy of this blessed season of hope with our brothers and sisters in need. God bless you.
Monthly Blood Pressure Screenings The next monthly blood pressure screening will be
Sunday, December 9th from 8:30 to 11:30 am in the conference room at the parish office.
Christian Formation
A Cup of JOY a great success! Our faith calls us to demonstrate special concern for the most vulnerable members of our human family, and take concrete actions on their behalf. Fair Trade allows us to exercise an option for the poor every day through the choices we make about what we buy. The Christian Women of our parish have taken this social justice issue and are doing some-thing about it! Working with a Fair Trade organization—Just Coffee, Madison, the group has de-cided to begin selling fair trade coffee. With the purchase of this coffee it is a way of contributing to Catholic Relief Services as a percent of Just Coffee profits are sent to them. Also, any funds raised by the group will be used for social justice issues in our own community. A Cup of JOY was launched last weekend at the Workcamper’s Holiday Sale and 50 bags of coffee were sold! The coffee is priced at $8.50/12 oz. bag and is available ground or whole bean
in Medium Roast, French Roast and Dark Roasted Decaffeinated. Additional dates for you to purchase Blessed Teresa of Calcutta A Cup of JOY are: Saturday, Dec. 1st at the Monches Church during the Holiday Craft Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 2nd at the Parish Center, North Lake during the Advent Festival, 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9th at the Parish Center, North Lake and Monches Church during A Cup of JOY gathering after all
Masses on Sunday Sunday, Dec. 16th at the Workcamp Pancake Breakfast at the Parish Center in North Lake
You may also call the Parish Office at 966-2191 to place an order, but
to ensure delivery by Christmas, phone orders must be placed by Monday, Dec. 3rd

Our Lady of Guadalupe Family Event
Monday, December 10 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Our parish family will have a wonderful opportu-nity to come together for a very special event to honor our Blessed Mother. We will share a traditional meal together and ex-perience the joy that St. Juan Diego felt as he encountered the Blessed Mother ap-proximately 500 years ago. This special gathering is in lieu of regu-lar grade school classes December 10th & 12th. All first through fifth grade religious education families are asked to partici-pate. Please contact Mary Whelan in the Christian Formation office to confirm your attendance 262-966-7010

Going Out Of (The Horse!) Business Sale!!!
As part of the purchase of the 20 acre parcel on CTH VV, we took ownership of the barn/stable, some paddocks, fending and crop land. We’ve ceased the stable operations and are looking to sell unneeded equipment, but at the same time would like to generate some income by harvesting hay cur-rently growing at the site. Sale of fencing PVC fencing in good condition: about 3,000’ of 3-high 8’long cross planks, with 400+ posts and 7 gates. We are requesting bids for the purchase and removal of all fencing (except for fencing immedi-ately adjacent to drive and barn). Bids may include all or a portion of fencing. Sale of Equipment for Barn or Horses There is miscellaneous equipment such as stall mats, feeding & water troughs, & tools. Also, a Mill Creek manure spreader with an 8’ bed, grain auger with motor, etc. Any reasonable offers will be considered. Rental of land for Growing Hay Since there is no time line for building a new church on the site, we’d like to rent out the land for hay making of existing grass and alfalfa. We are seeking bids for a 3-year contract for the land.
Communal Advent Penance Service Saturday, December 15, 10:00 am
Monches Be reconciled with the Lord and with the Church before Christmas. Join us at the Advent Communal Penance Service on Saturday, December 15, 10:00 am at Monches. Come pray. Come repent. There will be individual private confession within the ser-vice with several priest confessors present.
Advent Lessons and Carols Tuesday, December 4, 7:00 pm, North Lake
Celebrate the beginning of Advent and the Christmas season with Scripture readings and hymns. Hear the message of the angels, and in heart and mind go to Bethlehem and see the Word made flesh lying in a manger. Let us hear in Holy Scripture the story of God’s loving purpose from the time of our rebellion against Him until the glorious re-demption brought to us by His holy Child Jesus and let us make the church resound with hymns and songs of praise. A social gathering with refreshments will follow.
