You have seen our beautiful Mayer windows for years, but how much do you know about them? This weekly series will test your knowledge of these treasured possessions.

Q: Why is this window of 12 year old Jesus in the temple important in the theme of the nave windows?See next week’s bulletin for the answer.Answer to last week’s question: In announcing to Mary that she was to be the Mother of God, the angel Gabriel gave us the opening lines to the Hail Mary, a popular prayer since the eleventh century (Luke 1:28). The painting by Mayer artists is perhaps based on the Isenheim Altar Piece by Matthias Grunewald (1470 - 1528).

Do You Know? Quiz on Our Stained Glass Treasure

Home Works relies on prayers, funding and volunteers to repair homes. $ 2,500 is the average amount of out-of-pocket expenses, funds from the bank account, which are spent on a home. This does not include in-kind donations such as volunteer labor or donated services for electrical tasks, received from Cashion Electricians or for plumbing tasks, received from Superior Plumbing.

Home Works received the Good Angel Award from the South Carolina Secretary of State to acknowledge that 98 cents of every dollar is spent on Program Expenses - paint, shingles, lumber, etc. Home Works 2013 Budget exceeds $ 500,000 and currently there is a deficient.

Funds are needed for: > Roofing, $ 2,555 > Ramp, $ 1,250 > Bathroom, $ 874 > Painting, $ 566

Donations of $ 50 or $ 5,000 or more provide the setting for youth and adult volunteers to not only repair a home but more importantly convey a message of hope. Please consider making a donation, here is the link http://www.homeworksofamerica.org/donate/

As Home Works’ days begin and end in prayer, so does this email. Dear Heavenly Father, thanks you for my gifts and talents. Help me to use these treasures to build your kingdom.

Blessings,

Hank ChardosProgram Director and Founder(803) 781-4536, office(803) 206-6974, cell

Lessons From The AngelsTo frightened shepherds on the first Christmas Eve, a host of angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14, KJV).Nineteenth-century minister Charles Kingsley explained how these key words tell the meaning of Jesus’ birth and give meaning to our lives.• Glory. “That little babe, lying in the manger among the cattle, was showing the very highest glory of the great God who had made heaven and earth. To stoop, to condescend, to have mercy, to forgive — that is the highest glory of God.”• Peace. “God is not selfish. He sacrificed himself for us. Sacrifice yourselves then for each other! Give up your own pride, your own selfishness, your own interest for each other, and you will be all at peace.”• Good will. “God loves you, and he wills to raise you out of this selfish, quarrelsome life of sin, into a loving, brotherly, peaceful life of righteousness. That babe in the manger at Bethlehem is a sign to you and me that God will freely give us that spirit of love if we ask for it.”
