The Life Style Grid ReportHow to Understand the Results

The Life Style Grid Report gives a visual presentation of your results for four dimensionsof personality that impact success at work and in life. Each dimension is graphed on itsown Life Style Grid using an assigned symbol.

Personality Dimensions and Symbols

Preferred Activities - what you like to do

Usual Style - how you behave in normal conditions and how you work mosteffectively

Needs - the support you need from others and the environment around you

Stress Behaviors - behaviors that are a reaction to your needs not being met

The Life Style Grid ®

The Life Style Grid uses color to representsets of behaviors and motivators on the fourquadrants of the Birkman Life Style Grid:

Implementing EnterprisingOrganizing Creating

Colors are used throughout the BFL Reportto help simplify complex information byreducing it to broad categories sharingsimilar characteristics.

Direct Involvement

Indirect Involvement

People-Oriented

Implementing Enterprising

Organizing Creating

BFL Report colors are used to describe the world, not limit it by creating isolating labels. There is no right or wrong color, or combination of colors. It is not uncommon to find thatyou have a different color associated with each element of your report. This reflects howeach individual is complex and cannot be completely defined by a single label.

Be clear about your results: Pay attention to how close your symbols are to the linesdividing the color quadrants.

• When your symbol is close to the line, you may relate to characteristics thatare on either side of the line.

• The closer you are to the center of the Grid, the more likely you are to relate tocharacteristics of other quadrants.

Clarify your engagement style: Look at the labels on the top and bottom of the grid(Direct Involvement; Indirect Involvement):

• A symbol located in one of the two top quadrants indicates directcommunication and participation, a hands-on style.

• A symbol located in one of the two bottom quadrants suggests indirectcommunication and participation, a preference for contributing by workingbehind the scenes.

Know your focus: Look at the labels on the sides of the grid (Task-Oriented; People-Oriented).

• Task orientation is represented by symbols in the two left quadrants.• People orientation is represented by symbols in the two right quadrants.

Areas of Interest Report

In this section of your BFL Report you'll discover the types of work and job functions you may enjoy, the hobbies that likely captivate you, and the activities that may bring you fun and fulfillment.

The Areas of Interest Report shows how closely your interest results match four interest themes: Enterprising, Creating, Organizing, and Implementing. Each of these themes is described and further defined by specific job roles, functions, and activities. The areas that show the strongest match to your results indicate functions that offer work you likely enjoy or activities you particularly appreciate.

Interest does not relate to talent or skill although individuals develop skills related to their strengths and likes. When your interest is high in a specific area, it can become a strong motivator to improve or learn new skills and knowledge that drive success.

Fulfilling your interests is key to both a successful career and a satisfying lifestyle.

Understanding the Areas of Interest Report

Your interest results are summarized on two graphs on the next page. The summary is followed by detailed explanations of your results for each of the four interest themes and associated personal areas of interest.

The order of the four interest theme pages is based on the strength of the match with your results starting with the strongest match. To clearly understand your results, it is critical to read the details provided on the four theme pages.
