The Rules:• Each team gets to select a Question of their Choice.
• ALL teams can contest for the points.• If Correct = Allocated Points• If Incorrect = Loss of Allocated Points off Total Score and the next team gets a chance at the question
• 1 minute limit per question
• You must have a score of 600 before you can contest a 500 point question

• DNA- Deoxyribonucleic Acid
100DNA
• What does DNA stand for?
• What part of the cell contains the DNA?
200DNA
• The Nucleus of all cells contain the genetic material (DNA)
200DNA
• What part of the cell contains the DNA?
300DNA
• DNA is coiled up into...
• DNA is coiled up into Chromosomes.
300DNA
• DNA is coiled up into...
• DNA molecules are made up of 3 parts; What are they?
400DNA
• DNA is made of a sugar, phosphate and a nitrogenous base. Or it has a sugar-phosphate backbone and nucleotide bases.

DNA molecules are made up of 3 parts; What are they?
Explain how the nucleotide of DNA are paired and how they are read and made into proteins.

500DNA
Explain how the nucleotide of DNA are paired and how they are read and made into proteins
The nucleotides on DNA are paired up A-T and C-G, these are later read during translation as a triplet or codon. Each triplet codes for an amino acid which when attached to other amino acids makes a protein.
100Mitosis
• What is mitosis and where does it takes place?
100Mitosis
• Mitosis is a process of cell division that happens in all non-sex cells.
What is mitosis and where does it takes place?
200
• What happens to the DNA in the early stages of Mitosis?
Mitosis
200Mitosis
• The DNA is replicated.
What happens to the DNA in the early stages of Mitosis?
• How many daughter cells are produced at the end of one mitosis division?
300Mitosis
• How many daughter cells are produced at the end of one mitosis division?
300
• There are 2 identical daughter cells produced at the end of a mitotic division.
Mitosis
Mitosis 400
• Why is mitosis the best sort of division to take place in non-sex cells? give an example of when mitosis occurs.
Mitosis 400
• Why is mitosis the best sort of division to take place in non-sex cells? give an example of when mitosis occurs.
Non sex cells need to be identical to each other, they are used for growth or replacement during injury or cell death, etc.
Mitosis 500
• List the stages of Mitosis in order and briefly describe what is happening in each.

Interphase- Chromosomes ReplicatedProphase- Double stranded
Chromosomes are visible.Metaphase- Chromosomes line up.Anaphase- Chromotids separate to
opposite ends of cell.Telophase- 2 new cells are formed.
List the stages of Mitosis in order and briefly describe what is happening in each.
• In which cells does Meiosis take place?
Meiosis 100
• In which cells does Meiosis take place?
Meiosis 100
In gametes, sex cells.
• How many cells are produced at the end of a meiosis division?
Meiosis 200
• How many cells are produced at the end of a meiosis division?
Meiosis 200
4 Cells that are not identical to the parent cells.
• Why is meiosis better than mitosis in sex cell division and later in the formation offspring?
Meiosis 300
• Why is meiosis better than mitosis in sex cell division and later in the formation offspring?
Meiosis 300
The offspring will have genetic information from both parents and when the sex cells combine the final zygote will contain the correct number of chromosomes.
• List and explain 2 differences between mitosis and meiosis.
Meiosis 400
• List and explain 2 differences between mitosis and meiosis.
Meiosis 400
• 2 Stages of division.• 4 non identical cells produced versus
2 identical cells.• Final cells have haploid number of
chromosomes versus diploid number in mitosis.
• Using the white board, draw the process of meiosis from start to finish.
Meiosis 500
• Using the board draw out the process of meiosis.

What is a cell?
500Cells 100
500Cells 100
• A cell is the basic unit of living organisms, containing the genetic information for life.

500Cells 200
What are stem cells?
500200
• Stem cells are cells found in most, if not all, multi-cellular organisms. They are characterized by the ability to renew themselves through mitotic cell division and differentiating into a diverse range of specialized cell types.
What are stem cells?

• What are chromosomes? Why are they important?
500 Cells 300
500Cells 300
What are chromosomes? Why are they important?
It is a single piece of coiled DNA containing many genes, and other nucleotide sequences. The are important because they contain all the genes necessary for life.
• A cancerous cell replicates infinitely, why is this a program? What mechanisms does you body have to try and prevent uncontrolled growth?
500Cells 400
500Cells 400A cancerous cell replicates infinitely, why is
this a problem? What mechanisms does you body have to try and prevent uncontrolled growth?
Cancerous cells are a problem because the negatively effect the body causing the spread of cancer and sometimes leading to death. In normal situations the body controls uncontrolled growth by having programed cell death that destroys malfunctioning, damaged or unnecessary cells.
Explain the life cycle of a cell.

• What is RNA and what does it do?
400Pot Luck
• What is RNA and what does it do?
RNA is ribonucleic Acid and is involved in copying the DNA before it is translated into protein.
• How can DNA be used in solving crimes? Where can someone’s DNA be found in a crime scene? How can we be sure that if someone's DNA is found that it is definitely them?
500Pot Luck
• How can DNA be used in solving crimes? Where can someone’s DNA be found in a crime scene? How can we be sure that if someone's DNA is found that it is definitely them?
500Pot Luck
DNA is unique to each human, no 2 people have exactly the same DNA, so if someone’s DNA matches that of a crime scene it means they had to be there. DNA can be found in Hair, skin even saliva that someone may leave behind in a crime scene.
