Billion 5102 ModemConfi uration Guide

To Begin..

If you have not used ADSL on this computer before, please start here. If you have usedADSL with another provider, and have transferred to People Telecom, please start from

Step 3.

Step 1 – Installing EquipmentWe need to perform the physical installation of the ADSL modem.

1)  Plug in all equipment as directed on the booklet that came with your modem.

2)  A phone cable should plug into the ADSL modem.

3)  An Ethernet cable should go from the ADSL modem, to the PC.

4)  All telephones, fax machines and answering machines on that phone number should

have ‘line filters’ installed. 

Step 2 – Configuring your Computer

If you already had ADSL with another ISP, you can skip this step and go straight to step 3.This section details on how you need to configure your PC to connect to your modem, and

therefore the internet. This guide details using Windows XP.

1)  Press Start, and then ‘Settings’ and then ‘Control Panel’ 

2)  Select the ‘Network and Internet connections’ option

3)  Select the ‘Network connections’ option

4)  Locate your ‘Local Area Connection’ and then right click on the icon. Select‘Properties’ 

5)  In the white space, there is an item called ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’. Click it, and

then press properties.

6)  Details on this page need to be set to ‘Obtain IP address Automatically’ and also

‘Obtain DNS server address Automatically’ 

7)  Press ‘Ok’ and then ‘Close’

Step 3 – Configure your ADSL Modem

Next, we need to configure the modem to connect to People Telecom. To do so, please followthese steps.

1)  Open up internet explorer

2)  In the address bar, please type in http://192.168.1.254

3)  The default username to login to the modem is ‘admin’ and the password is ‘admin’ 

4)  On the left-hand side, there is an option for ‘Wizard Setup’. Please click this link.

5)  On the first page of the Wizard you will need to set the following settings and then

press ‘Next’.

Mode: Routing

Encapsulation: PPPoE

Multiplex: LLC

VPI / VCI: 8 / 35

6)  The next page will ask for your Username and Password details. All other details

remain untouched. Once they are entered, press ‘Next’.

Service Name: People Telecom

Username: xxxxxxxxxx@people.net.au

Password: PWDxxxxxxxxxxT

Replace xxxxxxxxxx with the full phone number of the adsl.

7)  The last page will display an overview of your configuration. Press ‘Save settings’ 

8)  On the next page, you have the option to test your connection. Everything should

display as ‘Pass’  

Step 4 – Using your Internet connection

Once the above steps have been completed, you should now be able to browse the

internet. Open internet explorer, and access websites.
