Tsim Bei Tsui is the closest tidal measuring station to Mai Po. The information is provided by the Hong Kong Observatory.Notes:• All mud is usually covered in front of the boardwalk hides with tides

predictions due to weather conditions (e.g. strong wind, low barometric pressure, high rainfall, etc.).

比賽規則

1. 大會認可的雀鳥品種包括《香港鳥類名錄中》I及II類所列的鳥種、觀鳥記錄冊上列出的鳥種，以及任何裁判認可的鳥種，惟必須符合以下的條件：-記錄得到的雀鳥並非籠中飼養鳥或受束縛的雀鳥；-受油污污染及患病的雀鳥不計算在內；-觀鳥大賽數日前，明顯是被釋放的籠中飼養鳥不計算在內；-所有鳥種必須於香港境內記錄；-被隊員完全確認的鳥種方可記錄；-禁止播放錄音帶以吸引雀鳥。

2. 參賽隊伍必須在比賽期間把觀鳥紀錄填好，並於比賽結束時把記錄冊呈交裁判。提交前，隊長必須簽名作實，並註明錄得鳥種的總數、錄得濕地鳥種的總數、「全日最具特色雀鳥」及「糊塗蟲之最」的名稱。記錄冊一經提交，不得再作更改。賽後30分鐘為寬限時間（即下午7時正為止），各隊伍可在此段期間整理資料，惟不可增加雀鳥紀錄的數目。隊長亦必須隨時準備解答裁判的提問。

3. 參賽隊伍可自行選擇比賽起點。比賽以米埔斯科特野外研習中心為終點，參賽隊伍必須於下午6時30分或以前完成賽事。

4. 參賽隊伍每遲到1分鐘，便須在紀錄中倒扣5分鐘，任何在該段時間中記錄到的雀鳥將不獲計算到總成績內。但是，倘若參賽隊伍遭受突發事故(例如因交通意外而封路等阻延)，則不在此限制之內。

5. 參賽者即使擁有禁區通行證，亦不能駕駛腳踏車、私家車或乘搭飛機進入以下的禁區範圍-漁護署自然管理員站以外的米埔自然保護區範圍，包括邊境圍欄路；-從米埔北面通往落馬洲和馬草壟的邊境圍欄路；-從尖鼻咀警崗至元朗污水處理廠的邊境圍欄路；以及-大埔滘自然保護區範圍，包括從大埔公路低層停車場通往該區的道路。各隊伍嚴禁進入米埔16/17號基圍與14號基圍之間的小路。

6. 所有只聽到聲音的鳥種必須在記錄冊上註名。裁判將審慎處理所有難以辨認和罕見的鳥種。

7. 臨時的比賽結果將於頒獎晚宴上公佈，裁判保留更改比賽結果的權利。最後的比賽結果將於審查後公佈，各隊長或其代表必需準備於比賽3天後以電話或電郵回答裁判的查詢。

8. 為免對雀鳥造成不必要的滋擾，參加者不應該接近已確定的雀鳥繁殖地，亦不應該接近聚集的鳥群，或成群聚集的涉禽等。在任何情況下，參加者均不應該故意驚嚇或驅趕雀鳥。

9. 比賽期間，參賽者不可以與任何非參賽人士互通有關雀鳥的消息，但向所有參賽隊伍公開的消息不在此限制之內。

10. 在觀鳥屋時，假如有其他隊伍正等候進入，正在使用觀鳥屋的隊伍不可以故意拖延時間，並應該盡量騰出空間讓其他隊伍使用。

11. 參賽隊伍若未能遵守上述比賽規則，或違反其他未有列明處分方式的規則，無論錄得多少鳥種，名次均列於末席，惟鳥種總數仍會用來計算善款。任何投訴將交由裁判作最後決定，所有隊伍不得異議。

1. Only species listed in Categories I and II of the List of Hong Kong Birds, listed in the log book or accepted by the Adjudicator will count subject to the following: - Birds must be unrestrained; - Oiled or sick birds do not count; - Species which have obviously been released from captivity within a few days of the Race will not count; - All species must be recorded from the territory of Hong Kong; - Only species positively identified count; - Attracting birds with tape-recorders is prohibited.

2. Every team will be provided with a log book, which must be completed in full and handed to the Adjudicator at the end of the Race. Team captains must sign before final submission and add the total species and total wetland species1 recorded by their team, their “Bird of the Day” and “Dip of the Day”. No amendment to the logbook will be permitted after submission. A grace period of 30 minutes (until 7:00pm) will be allowed for the completion of a clean copy for the Adjudicator but no bird can be added during this period. Team captains must remain available to answer any queries, which the Adjudicator may have.

3. Teams may start the race anywhere. The Race will finish at the Peter Scott Field Studies Centre, Mai Po. Team must not finish later than 6:30pm.

4. For every one minute late, five minutes will be counted back and any bird species recorded in that period will be deleted. However, delays beyond the control of the teams will be discounted e.g. roads blocked because of an accident.

5. No vehicle, bicycle or aircraft of any kind are permitted in the following restricted areas, even if they possess valid permits: - All Mai Po Nature Reserve beyond the AFCD Wardens’ Post including the entire border fence road; - All the border fence road from Mai Po north to Lok Ma Chau and Ma Tso Lung; - All the border fence road from Tsim Bei Tsui Police Post to Yuen Long Sewage Works; and - All Tai Po Kau Forestry Reserve including the access road from the low-level car park at Tai Po Road The track between Gei Wai 16/17 and 14 at Mai Po are strictly out of bounds to all teams.

6. All “heard only” records must be marked in the logbook. The Adjudicator will critically examine all records of difficult-to-identify or unusual species.

7. The provisional Race results will be announced during the Award Dinner. These results may be amended by the Adjudicator. Final confirmed results will be issued later, following further checking. Team captains or their proxies must be available to answer queries by telephone or e-mail at least 3 days after the Race.

8. Known breeding sites must not be approached to the point where undue disturbance would be caused. The same applies to bird concentrations such as water flocks. On no account should any birds, which have been identified, be deliberately flushed.

9. Communication (relating to birds) with any non-participating birdwatchers during the Race is not permitted, unless the information is freely available to all teams.

10. In the hides, if other teams are waiting, teams should not stay unduly long and, in any event, should close up on the seats and make as much room as possible.

11. Teams not complying with these requirements, and for which no alternative penalty is specified, will be placed last in the Race, irrespective of the number of birds recorded, but their totals will still count for the purposes of sponsorship. Any dispute will be referred to the Adjudicator whose decision will be final.
