Pastoral Letter Dear loving members of the family of God, Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I want to thank God for His steadfast love which never ceases; and His mercies which never come to an end; as they are new every moment and great is God’s faithfulness. This is a reality in the life and ministry of our Bethel Methodist family. It is important to know that our nation will be recognizing the contributions of the teachers in the month of September as “Teachers Day”. Teaching or imparting knowledge is an important role in shaping the lives of students. We should thank God for the contributions of our leaders in the Church who are committed to shaping and nourishing the spiritual growth of our Children, Teens and Youngsters. We shouldn’t for-get the fact that Jesus is our master Teacher ‘Rabbi’, and His life did not contradict with His teaching. We are very excited that the wings of our Church conducted series of programs for the spiritual edification of the Church and community. On


the day of Indian Independence the Lay Committee organized “Flag Hoisting” which was witnessed by our neighborhood, passersby who stood as a mark of respect withour congregation. Rev. Dr. Arun Kumar Gundimi hoisted the flag and delivered a challenging speech which was appropriate to the audience. Followed by it “Pray for the Nations” which was led Prayer team, that stressed the importance of praying for the socio-political needs of the people and for the policy makers which impact the lives of the common people. In baptism, by faith, we are united with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection. “Baptismal Service”was conducted with its solemnity and reverence. Finally, we had “Outreach” in Priyanka nagar under the leadership of Missions team. Their commitment and services are com-mendable in this holistic approach. The WMC Tamil Congregation actively participated through Skit, Songs, Puppet Show and life changing testimo-nies. Our Pastor Rev. P. Koilraj delivered life transforming message on the need for salvation. Many responded and sought prayers for healing and need for salvation. The Sunday School wing of BMC conducted “Sunday School Sun-day” with the active participation of the children and Teachers in learning and proving their God given talents through different methods which is appreciated. We encourage all the parents to send your children to Sun-day School on a regular basis. We want to praise God for the way God has enabled our BMC members to take WMC’s ownership in establishing both Tamil and Eng-lish Congregation. At the moment we are worshiping in St. Joseph’s Con-vent and we are in need of our own place to effectively reach out in Whitefield area. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest – Psalm 85:12. The WMC will be celebrating “Harvest Festival” on 9th September, 2018. For the Glory of God, we extend invitation to be part of the celebrations. It will be combined communion service. Last 2 months we meditated on the theme “Array all the Armor of the Almighty to annihilate the actions of the Archfiend.” This is a call for preparedness to put on the whole Armor of God to face the schemes of the evil one in our spiritual warfare. This month we will be meditating on the theme “Parables present the powerful points of the province of the Prince.” For which we have chosen parables with alle-gorical meaning, in the Bible. The Parables were a common form of teach-ing in Judaism. Jesus used this method to illustrate profound divine truths for better understanding and remembrance. ப ோதகர் மடல் மிகவும் பிரியமான கிறிஸ்துவின் பிள்ளைகளை, நமது ஆண்டவராகிய இளயசு கிறிஸ்துவின் நாமத்தில் வாழ்த்துக்கள். என்றும் நிளைத்திருக்கிற அவருளடய அன்புக்காக நான் ளதவனுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்துகிளறன். அவரது இரக்கங்களுக்கு முடிவில்ளை. எல்ைா ளநரங்கைிலும் ளதவன் உண்ளமயுள்ைவராய் இருக்கிறார். நமது சபத்ளதல் சமத்தடிஸ்ட் ஆைய வாழ்விலும் அருட்பணியிலும் இளவகளை நாம் உண்ளமயாகளவ கண்டிருக்கிளறாம். செப்டம்பர் மாதத்தில், ஆெிரியர் தினத்ளத நமது நாட்டில் அனுெரிக்கிளறாம். அறிளவ புகட்டுவதினால், மாணவர்கைின் வாழ்க்ளக உருவாக்கப்படுகிறது. ஆவிக்குரிய வாழ்வில் நாம் வைர, ெிறுவர், வாைிபர் மற்றும் சபரிளயார்கள் மத்தியில் நமது ஆையத்தின் மூைம் நடத்தப்படும் அளனத்து ளபாதளனகளுக்காகவும் நாம் ளதவனுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்துகிளறாம். ’ரப’ீ என்று அளைக்கப்பட்ட இளயசு கிறிஸ்துளவ நமக்கு பிரதான ளபாதகர் அல்ைது ஆெிரியர் என்பளத நாம் மறக்கக்கூடாது. ளமலும் அவருளடய வாழ்க்ளக அவரது ளபாதளனக்கு முரண்பாடாக இல்ளை - இரண்டும் ஒன்றாகளவ இருந்தது. கடந்த மாதம் பல்ளவறு நிகழ்ச்ெிகைின் மூைம் நாம் ளதவப்பணி செய்ளதாம். சுதந்திர தினத்தன்று நமது ஆையத்தின் முன்பாக ளதெிய சகாடிளயற்று விைா நடந்தது. மளறதிரு. டாக்டர் அருண்குமார் அவர்கள் சகாடிளயற்றி , அதற்ளகற்ற செய்தி அைித்தார்கள். அதளனத் சதாடர்ந்து ளதெத்திற்கான செப ளவளை நளடசபற்றது. நமது நாட்டின் ெமுதாய மற்றும் அரெியல் ளதளவகள் ெந்திக்கப்பட, செபத்தின் முக்கியத்துவம் உணர்த்தப்பட்டது. ஞானஸ்நானத்தின் மூைம் நாம் கிறிஸ்துவின் ளமல் விசுவாெம் ளவத்து, அவருளடய பிறப்பு, இறப்பு, உயிர்த்சதழுதல் ஆகியவற்றில் ஒன்றாக இளணக்கப்படுகிளறாம். ஆகஸ்ட் 15 ஆம் ளததி நளடசபற்ற ஞானஸ்நான ஆராதளனயில், ஐந்து ளபர் ஞானஸ்நானம் சபற்றனர். அவர்கள் கிறிஸ்துவில் ளவரூன்றி வைர நாம் செபிப்ளபாம். அன்று மாளை, மிஷனரி குழுவின் மூைம், பிரியங்காநகர் பகுதியில் ஒரு நற்செய்தி கூட்டம் நளடசபற்றது. பாடல்கள், குறுநாடகம், ொட்ெிகள் என பல்ளவறு முளறகைின் மூைம் ஒயிட்பலீ்டு ஆையத்தின் மக்கள் இதளன ெிறப்பாக நடத்தினர். நமது ளபாதகர் மளறதிரு ளகாயில்ராஜ் அவர்கள், இரட்ெிப்பின் ளதளவளயக் குறித்து வல்ைளமயான செய்திளய பகிர்ந்தார்கள். பங்குசபற்ற பைரும் இரட்ெிப்பிற்காகவும் சுகமளடதலுக்காகவும் செபம் செய்தனர். ளமலும், ஞாயிறு பாடொளையின் மூைம், ெிறுவர் ஞாயிறு ஆகஸ்ட் 19 ஆம் ளததி சகாண்டாடப் பட்டது. ெிறுவர்கள், ளதவன் சகாடுத்த தாைந்துகளை ெிறப்பாக சவைிப்படுத்தினர். இதற்காக உளைத்த அளனத்து ஞாயிறு பாடொளை ஆெிரியர்களுக்கும் நன்றி. உங்கைது பிள்ளைகளை தவறாமல் ஞாயிறு பாடொளைக்கு அனுப்புமாறு சபற்ளறார்களை உற்ொகப்படுத்துகிளறன். சபத்ளதல் ஆையத்தின் முயற்ெியால் துவக்கப்பட்ட ஒயிட்பலீ்டு ஊைியம் ெிறப்பாக நளடசபற்று வருகிறது. ஆங்கிைம் மற்றும் தமிழ் ஆராதளனகள் வாரந்ளதாறும் ளொெப் பள்ைியில் நளடசபற்று வருகின்றன. ஆராதளன நடத்த,


நமக்காக சொந்தமாக ஒரு இடம் ளதளவப்படுகிறது. சதாடர்ந்து இதற்காக செபியுங்கள். கர்த்தர் நன்ளமயானளதத் தருவார். நம்முளடய ளதெமும் தன் பைளனக் சகாடுக்கும் – ெங்கீதம் 85:12. நம்முளடய ஒயிட்பலீ்டு ஆையத்தில் செப்டம்பர் 9 ஆம் ளததி அறுப்பின் பண்டிளக (Harvest Festival) சகாண்டாட உள்ளைாம். அளனவரும் நன்றியுள்ை இருதயத்ளதாடு இதில் பங்குசபற அளைக்கிளறன். கடந்த இரண்டு மாதங்கைாக ’அசுத்த ஆவிகைின் அளெவுகளை அைித்திட ஆண்டவரின் அளனத்து ஆயுதங்களையும் அணியுங்கள்’ என்ற தளைப்பில், ஆவிக்குரிய ளபாராட்டத்தின் ஆயுத வர்க்கங்களைக் குறித்து தியானித்ளதாம். இந்த மாதம் “உன்னதரின் உைகத்ளத வல்ைளமயாய் சவைிப்படுத்தும் உவளமகள்’ என்ற தளைப்பின்கீழ், ளவதத்தில் உள்ை ெிை உவளமகளைக் குறித்து தியானிக்க உள்ளைாம். யூத மக்கைின் ளபாதளன முளறகைில், உவளமகள் சபாதுவாக இடம்சபற்றன. ளதவ இராஜ்ெியத்தின் உண்ளமகளை நாம் புரிந்துசகாள்ைவும், ஞாபகத்தில் ளவக்கவும் ஏதுவாக, இளயசு இந்த உவளம முளறளய வல்ைளமயாய் பயன்படுத்தினார். இந்த தளைப்பின் தியானங்கள் நமக்கு ஆெீர்வாதமாக அளமயும் என நம்புகிளறன். ளதவன்தாளம உங்களை ஆெீர்வதிப்பாராக கிறிஸ்துவின் பணியில் ளபாதகர் ளொஷுவா தாஸ்

(ஆதி. 18:22-33) விளைவு என்ன? ஆதியாகமம் 19:29 இல், ளதவன் ஆபிரகாமின் பரிந்துளர செபத்ளத நிளனத்து, ளைாத்துவின் குடும்பத்ளதக் காப்பாற்றினார். ஆபிரகாமின் செபம் ளைாத்தின் குடும்பத்ளத அைிவிைிருந்து காப்பாற்றியது அல்ைவா?ஆம். பரிந்துளர செபத்ளத ளதவன் நிளனத்து, அதற்கு பதில் சகாடுக்கிறவராய் இருக்கிறார். 2) சரசபக்காளுக்காக திறப்பிளை நின்ற ஈொக்கு ஆதியாகமம் 25:21ஆம் வெனம் இவ்விதமாக கூறுகிறது. “மைடியாயிருந்த தன் மளனவிக்காக ஈொக்கு கர்த்தளர ளநாக்கி ளவண்டுதல் செய்தான். கர்த்தர் அவன் ளவண்டுதளை ளகட்டருைினார்; அவன் மளனவி சரசபக்காள் கர்ப்பந்தரித்தாள்”. மைடியாயிருந்த தன் மளனவிக்காக ஈொக்கு திறப்பிளை நின்றான். விளைவு, ளதவன் அவன் செபத்ளதக் ளகட்டார். ஒன்று அல்ை, இரண்டு பிள்ளைகளை அவளுக்குக் சகாடுத்தார். (ஆதி. 25:22 & 23) இரண்டு ொதிகள் அவள் கர்ப்பத்தில் உண்டாயிருந்தது. மைடியாயிருந்த சரசபக்காள் இரண்டு வித ொதிகள், இரண்டு வித ெனங்கள் இந்த உைகத்தில் உருவாக காரணமாய் மாறினாள். பரிந்துளர செபம் எத்தளன வல்ைளமயுள்ைது பாருங்கள்.


3) மிரியாமிற்காக திறப்பில் நின்ற ளமாளெ எண்ணாகமம் 12:1-15 ஆம் வெனங்கள் பின்வரும் காரியங்களை நமக்கு காண்பிக்கின்றன. ஆளரானும் மிரியாமும் ளமாளெக்கு விளராதமாய் ளபெினார்கள் (வெனம் 1), ளதவன் ளகாபம் அளடந்தார் (வெனம் 9), மிரியாம் குஷ்டளராகியாய் மாறினாள் (வெனம் 10). அப்சபாழுது, தனக்கு விளராதமாய் ளபெின தன்னுளடய அக்காள் மிரியாமிற்காக ளமாளெ திறப்பில் நின்றான். 13ஆம் வெனத்தில், என் ளதவளன, என் அக்காள் மிரியாளம குணமாக்கும் என சகஞ்ெினான். தனக்கு விளராதமாய் ளபெினவர்களுக்காக ளமாளெ திறப்பில் நின்று செபித்தான். விளைவு, கர்த்தர் மனமிறங்கி மிரியாளம குணமாக்கினார். திறப்பிளை நின்று நாம் மற்றவர்களுக்காக செபிப்பது எத்தளன வல்ைளமயுள்ைது பாருங்கள்.

4) இஸ்ரளவல் மக்களுக்காக திறப்பிளை நின்ற ளமாளெ. எண்ணாகமம் 14: 11 & 12 ஆம் வெனங்கைில், கர்த்தர் ளமாளெளய ளநாக்கி, இஸ்ரளவல் மக்கைின் அவிசுவாெத்தின் நிமித்தம், முறுமுறுப்புக்கைின் நிமித்தம், நான் அவர்களை சகாள்ளை ளநாயினால் வாதித்து, சுதந்திரத்திற்குப் புறம்பாக்கிப் ளபாடுளவன் என்றார். அப்சபாழுது ளமாளெ இஸ்ரளவல் மக்கைின் அக்கிரமத்ளத மன்னிக்கும்படி திறப்பின் வாெைில் நின்றான். விளைவு என்ன? ளதவன் ளகாபத்ளத மாற்றி, இஸ்ரளவல் மக்கைின் அக்கிரமங்களை மன்னித்தார்.

5) நமக்காக திறப்பில் நிற்கும் இளயசுகிறிஸ்து இளயசு இந்த உைகத்தில் இருந்த நாட்கைில், ெீஷர்களுக்காக மாத்திரமல்ை, உங்களுக்காகவும், எனக்காகவும், திறப்பில் நின்று செபித்தளத ளயாவான் 17:20 ஆம் வெனத்தில் காணைாம். “நான் இவர்களுக்காக ளவண்டிக் சகாள்ளுகிறதும் அல்ைாமல், இவர்களுளடய வார்த்ளதயினால், என்ளன விசுவாெிக்கிறவர்களுக்காகவும் ளவண்டிக்சகாள்ளுகிளறன்” என்று செபித்தார். நாம் எல்ைாம் ஒன்றாய் இருக்க ளவண்டும் என்றும் இளயசு செபித்தார். அப்சபாழுது மாத்திரமல்ை, இப்சபாழுதும், இளயசு நம்முளடய பாவங்களுக்காக பிதாவினிடத்தில் பரிந்து ளபசுகிறவராய் இருக்கிறாராம். (1 ளயாவான் 2:1). ளராமர் 8:34 ஆம் வெனத்தில் இளயசு ளதவனுளடய வைது பாரிெத்தில் உட்கார்ந்துசகாண்டு நமக்காக பரிந்து ளபசுவளதக் காணைாம். இளயசு நமக்காக இன்றும் திறப்பிளை நின்று செபித்துக் சகாண்டிருக்கிறாராம். நாம் பாதுகாப்பாய் இருப்பதற்கு காரணம் அவருளடய திறப்பின் வாெல் செபம் மட்டுளம! பிரியமானவர்களை, ஆபிரகாம், ஈொக்கு, ளமாளெ மற்றும் இளயசு கிறிஸ்து ஆகிளயார் நம்ளமப் ளபான்ற தனி மனிதர்களை. ஒரு மனிதனாய், அவர்கள் திறப்பிளை நின்று, குடும்பம் அைியாதபடிக்கும், ெனங்கள் அைியாதபடிக்கும், ளதெம் அைியாதபடிக்கும் செபித்தார்கள். நண்பளன, நீ ஒருவனாய் திறப்பிளை நின்று, உன்னுளடய குடும்பதிற்காக, ெளபக்காக, ளதெத்திற்காக செபிக்கைாம். ளதவன், ஒரு மனுஷளனத் ளதடுகிறார். நீ ஏன் ளதவன் ளதடும் அந்த ஒரு மனுஷனாய் இருக்கக்கூடாது.இன்ளற தீர்மானம் செய்து திறப்பின் வாெல் செபவரீனாய் மாறுவாயா?

Discipline of Prayer D.C Franklin & Noel Thomas From our pulpit, we were meditating on Ephesians 6: 11-17, where Paul calls

us for spiritual warfare fitted with defensive armour and offensive weapons, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authori-ties, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”. A disciple of Christ is a disciplined soldier of God.

In verse 18 we find Paul carefully urging the Christian soldier after putting on the whole armour of God "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions…..."

As E.M.Bounds puts it “ The Christian's armour will avail him nothing, unless prayer be added. This is the pivot, the connecting link of the armour of God. This holds it together, and renders it effective. God's true soldier plans his campaigns, arranges his battle-forces, and conducts his conflicts, with prayer. It is all important and absolutely essential to victory, that prayer should so impregnate the life that every breath will be a petition, every sigh a supplication. The Christian soldier must needs be always fighting. He should, of sheer necessity, be always praying.

Verse 18 continues: “…in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people”.

Let us expand the meaning of verse 18: in the Spirit: It is by the Holy Spirit we are enabled to pray with a sincere heavenly longing all occasions: No period of life should be without it, the whole life will be a life of meditation and prayer all kinds of prayers: private, with other believers; with the confession of sin, petition for mercy, interceding for others, thanksgiving for favours received, etc. be alert: vigilant; not uninvolved or distracted, but with all our heart and mind, expectant, enthusiastic, etc. always keep on praying: perseverance, not giving up, never discouraged, etc. for all the Lord’s people: for fellow believers, leaders, pastors, missionaries, etc.

Then in the next two verse (Ephesians 6: 19, 20) apostle Paul, a warrior in prayer, is requesting prayer from the Ephesian believers for himself: “Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should”.

But he asked this only after he had prayed continuously and fervently for the Ephesian believers. We see that in Ephesians 1: 15-19: “ For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wis-dom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incompara-bly great power for us who believe”. Also in Ephesians 3:14-19: “For this reason I kneel before the Father,…. from whom every family[a]in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his

These portions give us a peek into the prayer life of the apostle Paul. Now let us consider some of the important aspects of prayer: What is prayer? It has been said Prayer is the breath of a Christian’s life. Have you ever tried breathing only once a day? What about once a week? Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? You can’t go for more than a minute or two without breathing. Oxygen is necessary to the life of your body. We take great care usually of the necessities of our body, but have you ever thought about the health and needs of your soul? When God breathed into man the “breath of life” (Gen 2:7), he became a “living soul”. If we are living souls, could there be something as important to our soul’s health as breathing? Could we be suffocating without even realizing it? “Faith is to the soul what life is to the body. Prayer is to faith what breath is to the body.” J.C. Ryle

The apostle Paul describes prayer as something continuous. “Be constant in prayer.” Rom 12:12. “We have not ceased to pray for you.” Col 1:9. “Devote yourselves to prayer.” Col 4: 2. “Praying at all times in the Spirit.” Eph 6:18. “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thess 5:17. “I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.” 2 Tim 1:3. Prayer is a rhythmic, constant act – kind of like breathing. It fills us with life.

Prayer is seeking the Lord Seeking the Lord means seeking his presence. One who loves the Lord longs

to be in his presence. In one way all are in his presence at all times because he is om-nipresent (Psalm 139: 7-12, Jeremiah 23: 24). Nevertheless, it is only his children con-sciously know that they are in His presence because of the covenantal commitment the Lord made to his children: “Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

But there can be seasons when we neglect his presence and give no thought to Him in our life pursuits. For this reason, the Bible repeatedly calls us to “seek the Lord”. Anything important is repeated in God’s word. Let us read these beautiful verses: 1 Chronicle 16: 11: Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually; Psalm 14: 2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. Psalm 27: 4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.

Psalm 42: 1,2 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Proverbs 8: 17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Jeremiah 29: 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Matthew 7: 7,8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Some obstacles or hindrances to prayer

An obstacle to seeking God’s presence is our carnality. Colossians 3: 1-2 calls us: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things”.

We have plenty of worthless things, which demand our attention, that cause us to fall away from seeking God’s presence. We have to be wise to flee from such things to seek God’s presence.

Another obstacle to God’s presence is our pride: Psalm 10: 4 “In the pride of

his face the wicked does not seek him”. Jesus told this parable in Luke 18: 10-14 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax col-lector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a dis-tance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God.

David, a man after God’s own heart, sings of his intimate closeness with God

in Psalm 63: 1 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you;

I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you,

in a dry and parched land where there is no water.

So, the greatest priority of a Christian should be to seek God’s presence.
