Dear fellow Bousteadians,

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all who celebrate, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. I hope the celebration was time well spent with your loved ones.

As we are now mid-way through 2017, I am pleased to note that we have been able to maintain our momentum despite the economic landscape. Leveraging on our solid foundation and our diversified nature, the Group has successfully weathered through the challenging environment.

We kicked off the year on a positive note, recording a profit after tax of RM41 million in the first quarter of the financial year. This marked a significant increase from RM10 million in the previous year.

This was led by our Plantations Division, which delivered a strong performance on the back of higher palm product prices and better crop production. This was followed by our Trading & Industrial, Pharmaceutical and Finance & Investment Divisions, which turned in better contributions. Meanwhile, we are optimistic that our other Divisions will be able to improve in the second half of the year.

As we move forward, we will continue to build on this performance and push through to deliver sustained results and enhance value for our shareholders. While there will undoubtedly be challenges, we are confident that the Group will be able to clear these hurdles and remain resilient.

To all Bousteadians, I commend you all for your unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in ensuring the success of the Group. We must all continue to work together to realise our goals and objectives. I encourage you to be proactive, maintain your focus and do your utmost in order to propel the Group forward.

Thank you.

Tan Sri Dato' Seri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin

Terima kasih.

29 April 2017A trip in Bandung would not be complete without a satisfying shopping experience. We were divided into two groups and headed separately to Pasar Baru, a must visit spot for wholesale

shopping enthusiasts, and Jalan Riau, where popular factory outlets are located.

This was also the last trip for our beloved Chief Financial Officer, Josephine Wong, as she is retiring from her long and successful career with BHB of close to 24 years. During our Wild Wild West themed dinner, she was presented with the long service award and

The Group Finance Department’s team building in Bandung, Indonesia (27 - 30 April 2017)

The Group Finance Department of Boustead Holdings Berhad (BHB)

recently had a memorable team building trip to Bandung, Indonesia. During the trip, we stayed at Aston Tropicana Hotel, located at the famous bustling Cihampelas Street.

Day

1

27 April 2017Our trip began at Menara Boustead, Kuala Lumpur, where we gathered at the early hour of 12:15 am to head off to KLIA2. Our flight touched down at Husein Sastranegara International

Airport at 8:16 am local time, where we were warmly greeted by our appointed tour guide, Pak Ridwan. As Bandung is renowned for its distinctive Dutch colonial architecture, we kicked off our journey by strolling through the city on a pariwisata (tourism) bus. Our first destination was Gedung Merdeka, a museum that houses a diorama of the historic first Asian-African Conference, proudly hosted by Indonesia in 1955. After spending an hour diving into local history, we continued our city tour and passed by

28 April 2017Set amidst volcanoes and green fertile mountains, our two-hour trip to the famous White Crater Ciwidey, south of Bandung was filled with views of terrace paddy fields and strawberry farms. At Ciwidey,

we were chartered to the crater’s entrance in smaller groups by angkots (vans). When we arrived, we were all mesmerised by the turquoise coloured lake which fills the volcanic crater. Despite the strong sulphuric smell and chilly temperature, we truly enjoyed our visit, taking lots of photos and even doing the mannequin challenge. At noon, we stopped by Saung Gawir restaurant for lunch, where we were treated with Nasi Liwet and a stunning tea plantation view. The journey back to the

many historical sites such as Institut Teknologi Bandung and Gedung Sate. Our first meal in Bandung was at Bale Gazeeboe restaurant, where we were served Indonesian cuisine for lunch. After getting a much-needed energy boost, at 2:00 pm, we headed over to the well-known cultural attraction, Udjo’s House of Angklung. There, we attended a workshop where we learned some interesting facts about the angklung (a musical instrument), which was intended to prepare us for the much-anticipated team building challenge. Despite the sleepless night, everyone was passionate about completing the task of making an angklung by wrapping its frame with rattan rope. After the challenge, we were proud that all of us successfully played the tune ‘You Raise Me Up’ using the angklung. The excitement continued when we joined the rest of the visitors to watch an angklung performance and also played angklung together.

The celebration was also enlivened by performances by talented colleagues (singing, poem recitals, dancing and video presentations) as a symbol of appreciation. Rahman and Nasuha were crowned as the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl respectively. The celebration was surely a night to remember. All Bousteadians, especially those from Group Finance Department, will greatly miss Josephine as our colleague and a wise counselor and mentor.

30 April 2017We checked out at 11:00 am and had our last meal in Bandung at Sindang Reret restaurant. Before going to the airport to depart, we spent about an hour at Kartika Sari, a

local bakery, to buy delicious treats such as brownies, layer cakes and pastries. After we bid goodbye to our tour guide, we departed Bandung at 6:45 pm, not only with heavy hearts and luggage, but also stronger bonds between us.

Mutiara Rini’s team building in Bangkok, Thailand(28 - 30 April 2017)

Mutiara Rini Sdn. Bhd.’s 2017 team building trip to Bangkok was a

short but wonderful and exciting one. The 3D2N trip held in April saw a total of 42 staff from our Kuala Lumpur and Johor offices joining for the trip. The objective of the team building event was to encourage teamwork and strengthen bonds amongst all the staff members.

Day One

Our first day started early at 3:00 am with the staff assembling at Menara Boustead to board the coach to KLIA. Upon our arrival in Bangkok, we set off on a sightseeing tour to explore the historic heart of the city, the Arts of Kingdom exhibition and the exhibition of traditional Thai crafts at Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall and Wat Arun, one of the many famous temples in Bangkok.

Day Two

We travelled by bus to Mae Klong Railway Market, one of the most unique markets in the world. We saw an active train running right through the middle of the market and it was close enough to touch. This can only be seen in Thailand! The trip took about two hours from Bangkok (unfortunately the traffic was bad) but we managed to catch the 9:45 am train. It was such a great experience to see how the vendors moved aside as the train passed, and then everything went back to its original position. We then visited Damneon Saduak Floating Market, one of the most popular tourist spots in Thailand.

Our last night in Bangkok was the highlight of the trip, with our Company Dinner which was held at Sophia Restaurant. Staff dressed up according to the Masquerade Mask theme, while the venue was also set up according

to the theme. We organised MRSB’s Got Talent competition with three teams participating - Spicy Tomyam (Accounts Department), Emji Kitaro (Marketing & Project) and Black Pearl (Sales & Marketing, Johor). Spicy Tomyam took the lead and won the competition. Our Senior Project Manager, En. Adnan Mohd Din and Pn. Sharifah Khadijah, Secretary to our Deputy Chairman/Group Managing Director, won the Masquerade King and Masquerade Queen respectively. We had so much fun and truly enjoyed the night.

Day Three

After some last-minute shopping, we checked out of the hotel and headed to the airport. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during the three-day team building trip.
