FROM THE
Exalted Ruler Scott Alguire
Hello to my fellow Elks,
Thank you for electing me as your Lecturing Knight. I will do my best to support the lodge and fulfill my duties as an officer.
I would like to encourage each of you to volunteer a few hours a month, especially in the kitchen, and serving meals. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
Fraternally,
Michelle Haas, Lecturing Knight.
It’s the start of a new Elk year. It feels like a new beginning for so many things. Spring is always a season of hope, espe-cially for those of us that originated in colder places. We are used to spending months locked up at home waiting for the weather to clear. The storm we have all endured for the last year is finally lifting. We see a light in the future. We can finally meet our friends again. We can share a meal. We can listen to some music.
Our Elks family has been here throughout the year serving to-go meals and dinner in the tents when possible. We have become closer to those who we see at every meal. They have become our pod of people we feel safe with. Now, as we open more things up, we can expand our pods. We can bring in the old friends we haven’t seen in a year. The Lodge is unique in the fact that we are here to serve our members. That gives us a safer environment to gather. We care about every person that comes through our door because we are family.
I hope to see all of you again this year. This is my second time around the block and many things will go smoothly. This is also an opportunity to bring the lodge back to where we left off. The experiences of the last year will be with us for a long time to come. Now we can move forward with doing charitable work for our community, in some slightly different ways than we have done in the past, but for the same reasons we all joined this Lodge to begin with. We Care about everyone and we Share what riches we have.
Fraternally,
Scott Alguire Exalted Ruler

Teenager of the Year scholarship judging is also coming up! We will be judging applications during the second week of April. Please join us as we select our Teenagers of the Year. Happy spring to all and welcome to the new Elk year!!!
I would like to thank you all for coming out for St Patrick's Day event. We had a great day, and it was lovely to see all of you. April brings new weather and hopefully new friends, but it also brings for us Friday night dinners. For those Friday nights that we do not have a kitchen event the bar will be doing different bar food. Definitely come see what we come up with. It will be a great surprise!
I hope all of you enjoy your Easter this year. We will be open in the bar on Easter Sunday however there will not be a bunch that day.
For those of you that are golf fans we will be having the Master's tournament on the TV April 8-11, come out and join us. We are looking forward to moving into the orange here soon, we will be adding new tables and seating in the bar when that happens. Please check back regularly to see when we are able to move into the next tier. Please remember that it is now a new Elk year and that we will be asking you for your 2021-22 membership cards when you come to the bar, please be prepared to show them, and thank you again for coming to Oceano Elks Lodge 2504! Hello from the kitchen,
We are now offering indoor dining @ 25% capacity, and still have outdoor dining as well. Hopefully, we will go to 50% soon. We are continuing to make some food changes. Please give us your feedback on our meals. Brunch will start back up on Sundays, starting March 21st 9am-11am.
Our volunteers have been wonderful, and as we expand, we are looking for more to help.
Keith Summers, Lodge Cook
Dear Fellow Elks,
We met at Old Juan’s Cantina on March 4th. The following events were discussed, Enchilada Sale, which was tabled at this date.
Fashion Show was discussed, and a tentative date is now set for October 16th, which will be a High with Lana Fleming and Jaylene Calmenson as chairs, more information to follow.
There was discussion also regarding whether ladies would like to meet in the lodge lounge or have our meetings at a restaurant with lunch to follow, which was voted on ad ap-proved. Our next meeting will be at the Quarterdeck with lunch to follow meeting. Time of meeting is scheduled at 11:30 am.
Our Cake Sales will start next month on the first Friday of the month. Ladies can bring cakes etc. to next meeting and I will take them to the lodge for Friday’s Bake Sale, which lat-er was approved by Scott Alguire, ER.
We will be having a special meeting with a Strawberry Angel Food Cake for our April birthdays ladies, Emelie Alguire, Margaret Walker, and Laveda Britton, which is our new Sun-shine Lady.
Please attend and help us celebrate these great ladies April birthdays.
Hope you all have a good Saint Patrick’s Day. May the good Lord shine his light on all of you.
God Bless,
Joan Clore, President
From Lodge Volunteer Coordinator, Coco Eells:
Hurray! The Lodge is open for indoor dining, as well as out-door dining from 5 to 7pm! Your kitchen volunteers will serve you a hot meal or grab one to go.
As the lodge continues to open up and more people get vaccinated the busier our lodge functions will become. Thus, more volunteers are greatly needed to keep the meal service and other lodge functions running smoothly. Join in the fun and meet more of your fellow Elks!
Looking to put your photography skills to work, call to let me know! We are in need of a few photographers for head-shots and events. I will put you in touch with someone to guide you through photography protocol and perimeters then get you on the volunteer schedule. \
Keep an eye out for News Blast emails from the lodge and on Facebook for the most up to date information on our restriction status and changes to our dining service. For menu information and to preorder your “To Go” meals give the kitchen a call 489-2504 and select 2.
The Lodge provides volunteers with gloves, face mask (ok to bring your own) and a meal. Close toed shoes are required to work in the kitchen and please tie up/back long hair.
Please contact me to volunteer. Email: [email protected] Call Coco: 805-825-2423 Landline 760-207-2789 Cell

2020-21 CIP Year in Review and Looking Ahead 2020-21 CIP Numbers When the 2020-2021 grant year opened on April 1 last year nothing was as it had been even a month earlier, so the Community Investments Program streamlined available grants and increased grant flexibility in the 2020-21 grant year. In total, more than 4,100 grants—totaling nearly $11.5 million—were approved to support Elks communities. The CIP approved 1,316 Gratitude Grants, the highest amount in three years. The CIP encouraged Lodges to use their Gratitude Grants to make direct donations to organiza-tions that are better equipped to directly serve those affected by the pandemic, instead of encouraging active, in-person projects. Frankfort, Ky., Lodge No. 530 switched from its annual project of serving students and seniors to donating directly to a food pantry. The Lodge felt a responsibility to help where they were needed; even with the current hard-ships, the Lodge “loves to make a difference in our commu-nity.” The $2,000 Spotlight Grant had added flexibility in 2020-21, as well. Lodges could select from one of the six projects to shine a spotlight on veterans’ homelessness or family litera-cy, or they could use the funds for direct pandemic relief. For added flexibility, Lodges could also merge their Spotlight Grant with their Beacon Grant, for a $5,500 Beacon Grant project. Santa Barbara, Calif., Lodge No. 613 held a drive-through Stand Down event. The Lodge partnered with local organiza-tions and provided hygiene kits for veterans experiencing homelessness. “Even though it was different than years past, the Elks showed up,” Grants Coordinator Joe Woodruff said. “The Lodge’s presence and work has made the veterans confi-dent that they can count on the Elks.” The Spotlight Grant had a record-breaking year: 1,043 stand-alone Spotlight Grants were approved, and 345 Lodges opt-ed to merge the Spotlight Grant with their Beacon Grant. In the end, 1,388 Lodges used Spotlight Grants to meet the needs in their communities—a 152 percent increase in ap-proved Spotlight Grant applications from last year! The Beacon Grant, which opened on August 1, set another record with 1,401 Beacon Grants approved. Many Lodges suspended or changed their annual projects to meet immedi-ate and pressing needs in a big way—especially because the Beacon Grant got a boost to $3,500 from $2,500. Homer, N.Y., Lodge No. 2506 used its Beacon Grant to pro-vide winter coats to children through Operation Warm. With the larger grant, the Lodge was able to provide 245 coats to children in need, eighty more than last year. 2021-22 CIP Plan Elks Lodges will continue building stronger communities when the 2021-22 grant year opens April 1. Gratitude Grants are the first grant to launch, and Spotlight Grants and Bea-con Grants will roll out during the summer months. Like this past year, CIP grants will feature more flexible guidelines, allowing Lodges to meet local needs while staying safe. For more information on the 2021-22 grant year, head to elks.org/cip.
