Every year the UMW publishes a list of books in the categories of mis- sions, social action, leadership devel- opment, spiritual growth, and com- munity; books are chosen by staff in the national UMW office. Belmont UMC’s UMW purchases many of the books and donates them to the church library. There are novels, non-fiction, and books for children and youth, all aligned with UMW’s interest in women and children. New titles this year include Becoming (Michelle Obama), Hidden Figures: The Amer- ican Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race (Margot Lee Shetterly), Small Great Things (Jodi Picoult), and Before We Were Yours (Lisa Wingate). UMW members are encouraged to read and record their reading. UMW units are recognized for member par- ticipation.
