The Shandrani Sailing Club offers a golden opportunity to acquire new skillsin the safe, tranquil waters of the lagoon, under expert tuition from qualifiedinstructors. And while you’re fine-tuning your abilities on a laser, catamaranor windsurfer, children can have fun learning how to sail a dinghy.

You can progress to beginner level with an average of just one hour ofsailing per day for five days, concentrating on practical sailing skills. Ina further five days, with one hour a day of combined theoretical andpractical tuition, it’s possible to reach advanced level. The Sailing Clubis a member of the Mauritius Yachting Association and is accredited by the International Sailing Association (ISA). This means if you makethe required progress you can graduate with an international sailinglicence and a recognised sailing logbook, which allows you to continueyour training at any other ISA-recognised school in the world.

There’s no need to pre-book your place at the Shandrani Sailing Club –simply enrol once you arrive. The Sailing Club is at a small extra chargeand suits those trying sailing for the first time, or those wishing to hone

With three restaurants at Le Victoria there’s something to tempt

everyone – there’s even a great little mini-restaurant for children. Visit

Le Superbe for its ‘live cooking buffet’ in the evening, along with lovely

panoramic views of the lagoon, gardens and pool.

Try the romantic Italian restaurant La Casa, for the chef’s daily menu

and Italian à la carte evening dining by the beach, and watch the

twinkling lights of nearby Port Louis. But not to be missed is the

wonderful L’Horizon, which serves fresh seafood specialities in a

relaxed atmosphere.

The delightful Fish Market here is a real holiday highlight, and some of

the tables are set on the sands, so you can dine under the stars. To

sample local ambience, drop into Le Corail Bleu for its exotic Mauritian

can snorkel just off the beach here – it’s magical when a school of

fish appears! Snorkelling trips have set departure times and if you are

a keen snorkeller we recommend you bring your own equipment.

sailing, glass-bottom boat trips and pedalos. If you are going to spend

a lot of time exploring the beach (and most of our clients do!) we

advise you to wear jelly shoes in some areas due to coral in the sand.

Do bring these with you, as they are fairly expensive in Mauritius.

For an extra charge you can book exciting deep-sea fishing trips,

go scuba-diving or hire bicycles to explore the island at your leisure or

why not retreat to the tranquil atmosphere of the brand new spa for a

The elegant Le Navigator restaurant at Le Canonnier is housed in an

old colonial building, set apart from the main hotel. You can choose

from the chef’s daily menu or à la carte menus. As you dine you can

look out over the lush gardens to magnificent views of the Indian

Ocean. If you’re in the mood for dancing, Le Navigator transforms into

a disco at 23.00.

Le Frangipanier is the hotel’s main restaurant. It’s surrounded by

coconut palms to create a fabulous tropical ambience where you can

enjoy American-style buffet breakfast in the morning and themed

buffets every evening. As the sun goes down, this is the venue for

entertainment, whether it’s a local dance band, cabaret or traditional

séga dancing. Next to Le Frangipanier you’ll find La Serenata

restaurant, a cosy Italian serving chef’s daily menu and à la carte menu.

For drinks or snacks during the day, wander down to Le Planteur, the

hotel bar, which is set in the heart of the lush gardens. This is a great

place to take it easy and while away a few hours, whilst soaking up the

Le Mauricia hotel rooms have a fresh contemporary look with a

Mauritian influence. All rooms are ocean-facing, and have partial

views over Grand Baie from a private terrace or balcony.

Standard roomS are located on the first and second floors of

the hotel; these feature a double bed and an en-suite shower.

Superior roomS are larger, with double bed, bath and separate

shower. They are located on the ground floor and have their own

small enclosed garden.

Family apartmentS also have their own gardens and offer

superb two-bedroom accommodation overlooking the beautiful grounds.

Each has a different layout and unique character. Some are all on one

level, and some have a children’s room upstairs. Both of the spacious

Le Mauricia, including water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing and snorkelling.

Big-game fishing, catamaran cruises, speed boats and scuba-diving

can all be arranged locally at an extra cost. For a real adventure try

undersea walking off Grand Baie – it’s a great opportunity for non-

swimmers to experience the wonderful sea life of Mauritius.

Guests can take their pick of two large pools, while there is a further

pool to enjoy in the family village area. You can also play tennis at three

floodlit courts, take part in volleyball and table tennis, or work out at

the fully-equipped fitness centre or cardio classes. The serene and

The main restaurant, Les Quais, overlooks one of the pools and serves

breakfast and buffet lunch; in the evenings you can take a culinary

Le Nautic restaurant offers dining with a view, in a position close to

the pool and beach. This is open for à la carte lunch and either the

chef’s daily menu or à la carte dinner on reservation. As evening falls,

Le Nautic has a particularly intimate atmosphere. Bay Watch is the

main bar around the pool, serving drinks and snacks throughout the

day. If you want a taste of Mauritian nightlife try La Rhumerie nightclub,

Sainte Anne’s restaurants are renowned for serving some of the finest

cuisine in the Seychelles.

Beautifully intimate Le Robinson seats just 20 for gourmet dinner by

reservation only, and is set on the beach amongst granite rocks and

coastline trees. L’Océane offers sumptuous à la carte or chef’s daily

menu for lunch and dinner, including succulent seafood, grilled fish and

Creole cuisine in a great beach setting (Open from June to October).

L’Abondance, the main restaurant, serves buffet breakfast and lunch,

and in the evenings offers buffet or chef’s daily menu. Le Mont Fleuri

provides a more exclusive dining experience, and is highly regarded as

PASSPORTS & VISASThe passport, visa and health requirements applicable at the time of printing to Britishcitizens for the holidays that we offer may be shown on our website, but this is forguidance and you should also ensure that you make your own enquiries. Your passportmust have a minimum of six months validity from the date of travel. A full British passportpresently takes approximately 4 weeks to obtain. If you are 16 years or over and have notyet got a passport our recommendation is that you should apply for one at least six weeksbefore your holiday. If you or any member of your party is not a British citizen or holds anon-British passport, you must check passport and visa requirements with the Embassy orConsulate of the country(ies) to or through which you are intending to travel. Your specificpassport and visa requirements, and other immigration requirements are yourresponsibility and you should confirm these with the relevant Embassies and/orConsulates. If failure to have or supply any necessary travel or other documents whichresult in fines, surcharges or other financial penalties being imposed on us, you will beresponsible for reimbursing us accordingly. PRE-SEATING ON AIRCRAFTClients booked in most premium classes and limited economy classes can still be pre-assigned seating (there is a charge for this on British Airways flights and this can only bedone once we have issued your tickets), however, the seating available will be limited and,once this limit is reached, airlines will only allocate seats during the check-in process and this cannot be overridden. Please note, however, that pre-assigned seats cannot beguaranteed and do not constitute a term of your contract with us. All airlines operate a no smoking policy on their aircraft.

SEASONS, GROUPS AND OTHER GUESTSMauritius, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Marrakech (May to September), the Seychelles (Januaryto March), have an ‘off peak’ season and during this period, you will often benefit fromexcellent prices. The properties we feature may take this quiet period to withdraw a fewfacilities: for example, a pool for cleaning or renovation, or the temporary closure of arestaurant. Occasionally, throughout the year, the hotels will accept groups which we haveno control over. During your stay, they may take over restaurants and facilities for events. Itis not possible to notify you of any of these changes before you travel and we cannotaccept any responsibility for any inconvenience caused.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTSNo vaccinations are required for Mauritius, the Seychelles, Marrakech, Dubai or AbuDhabi. It is your responsibility to comply with any health requirements such asvaccinations. These requirements do change; therefore it is wise to consult your doctor at

your earliest opportunity. We recommend that you obtain a copy of the Department ofHealth leaflet ‘Advice on Health for Travellers’ available from your ABTA travel agent or theDepartment of Health. If you have a medical condition or if you are pregnant, then youmust get clearance to travel from your own doctor. Pregnant passengers are not acceptedby most airlines after 28 weeks of gestation. Chikungunya and Dengue Fever, mosquito-borne infections, have been recorded in Mauritius and the Seychelles. Instances of touristinfection are rare, however, we recommend precautions are taken to minimise mosquitobites. We recommend our clients take along and use mosquito repellent. If you requirefurther information please do not hesitate to contact us. The UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi)are strict on medicines that can be taken into the country, this includes prescriptions andmedicines that are widely available over the counter in the UK, further information can befound at www.moh.gov.ae.

CURRENCY & CREDIT CARDS The £ sterling, Euro € and US $ are all widely exchanged, and most major credit cardsare accepted for payment of hotel accounts in Mauritius and Seychelles. Please note, inthe Seychelles your extras accounts are required to be settled in a foreign currency suchas £ sterling or US $ or by credit card. It is not advisable to purchase Seychelles rupeesbefore you travel, as they are rarely required in the islands. In Morocco most major creditcards are accepted, but it’s well worth having some Moroccan Dirham. For the best rateswe recommend using a bank in Morocco.

HOTEL CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUTCheck-in is normally 15.00 and check-out by 11.00. Some hotels will try toaccommodate early arrivals and late departures. However, in order to guarantee early check-in or a day room on departure, we can reserve the accommodation at a supplement beforehand.

OVERSEAS ACCOMMODATIONEach country has its own star rating system for its hotels. We therefore do not mention star ratings in our brochure or website but try to describe the hotels accurately throughwords and pictures. Star ratings promoted in any other brochure or website (includingwww.beachcomber-hotels.com) are therefore not our responsibility. For example many of our competitors describe Shandrani as 5-star, however we believe this is a subjective matter best judged by our clients. For the record, our website iswww.beachcombertours.co.uk.

Accommodation and public areas in the tropics do bring with them the local wildlife. Hotelmanagers work studiously to minimise unwelcome wildlife. Sainte Anne for example is aparticular challenge in light of the Seychelles government’s rules regarding environmentalprotection, during your stay you may observe the occasional furry friend! Insects, reptiles,small mammals and rodents may be a feature, but in no way does this imply that theaccommodation is unhygienic. They are simply a fact of life in these destinations, and inMauritius can be more common during the sugar cane harvest.

SPORTSIt is your responsibility to satisfy yourself as to applicable insurance (if any) and local laws,particularly for water sports, and activities are generally at your own risk. Please be aware, ifyou wish to take part in scuba-diving you may be required to show a doctor’s certificate toconfirm medical fitness. If you are a particularly keen diver, it is always a good idea to havethis certificate with you. It is also important to check children’s ages for scuba-diving beforeyou depart. Water sports service may vary during the year depending on the weatherconditions and tides. Please ensure you wear appropriate attire for all sports, particularlyfootwear. Please also bear in mind that any sporting equipment you intend to take will formpart of your luggage allowance, although some airlines may exclude sporting goods fromyour luggage allowance. WEDDING DATESConfirmed wedding dates may change under certain circumstances e.g. bad weather,Mauritian law or during Ramadan when public offices will be closed. Please be aware wecannot be held responsible for such change.

WEDDING PARTIESIf you are going to be travelling with a wedding party you must advise us at the time ofbooking what special arrangements you require. This includes arrangements for privatedining, the ability for the hotel to cater for guests not staying with you at the hotel and anyother personal arrangements you may require. Whilst the hotel will do everything possibleto cater for your group, we regret that if we are not advised at the time of booking the hotelmay decline your requests.

LUGGAGE ALLOWANCEAs a guide, 20kg in Economy Class, 30kg in Business Class and 40kg in First Class arethe allowances for international flights from the UK to the Indian Ocean. However, werecommend you confirm with the airline directly before you fly. Excess baggage is chargedat the airline’s own rates.

Please note there are strict restrictions on the size and weight of luggage allowed onhelicopter transfers. This is particularly the case in Mauritius, where baggage will betransferred by road at an additional cost, which may be payable locally. Please ask for full details when booking.

Please note, if you are planning to get married abroad, due to carry-on baggage restrictions,airlines cannot guarantee that you will be able to take your wedding dress on board. Werecommend, therefore, that you ask the dressmaker to pack the dress in a travelling box or ahard-sided suitcase and check with the airline the most up to date baggage allowances.

WEATHER & PUBLIC UTILITIESTemperatures are a guide only, and may fluctuate throughout the seasons. ‘0’ in theaverage rainfall guides represents rainfall of less than half an inch.

With worldwide weather becoming more erratic and harder to predict, we cannot be heldresponsible for a disruption to your holiday due to bad weather. The weather in Mauritiusbetween June and September can be fairly changeable with some cloud cover, and it isimportant to note that although Mauritius is a year-round destination, it can be chilly in theevenings and windy, with potential persistent rainfall at times during this period. Cyclonesoccur occasionally in Mauritius (usually in January and February), which may result in acouple of days of heavy rain and winds, However, at this time of year, the weather is stillgenerally hot with prevalent sunshine. The Seychelles experience two trade winds. The SouthEast Trade Winds are prevalent from May to September when it will be drier, breezier, andslightly cooler than during the remainder of the year. This also means that between May andAugust currents are stronger, often bringing sea grass onto some of the beaches. The NorthWest Trade Winds are prevalent from October to April. This is a much calmer breeze, whichresults in increased humidity and calmer seas. Higher rainfall occurs during this time ofyear. The Seychelles experience quite a lot of rain at all times of the year, but this mostlyoccurs in brief showers followed again by tropical sunshine. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi,sunshine is virtually guaranteed all year round and rainfall is a rarity. The best temperaturesare between October and April whilst during the remainder of the year the heat can soar.

Marrakech is warm and sunny for most of the year with the peak of the summertemperatures between June and August. During the winter months (November to February)pleasant mild days can be followed by sharp drops in temperature overnight. The Atlasmountain temperature is more unpredictable with cooler temperatures than Marrakechespecially during winter when the temperatures can get below 0 degrees Celsiusovernight. From time to time you may also experience a difference in temperature of up to15 degrees Celsius from one day to the next.

Wherever you travel, please ensure you take the necessary precautions to protect yourselffrom the harmful effects of the sun.

Public utilities, such as water and electricity, are taken for granted in Britain, but ontropical islands there may be hiccups in the supply. Internet access and speed can also be intermittent in Mauritius and Seychelles and should not be relied upon to be similar toUK services.

CLOTHINGAs the weather is generally warm all year round, cool lightweight clothing is recommended.If travelling to Mauritius between June and August and to Marrakech, Dubai and Abu Dhabibetween November and February, it is well worth taking some warmer clothing with youfor the evening. Most of our hotels operate an elegantly casual approach to dining in theevening, with gentlemen requested to wear long trousers and collared shirts, and jeans arenot acceptable in some restaurants. However, you do need to appreciate that somenationalities’ interpretation of ‘elegantly casual’ may differ from the British point of view.

SAFETY FEATURES Please note, we cannot guarantee lifeguards are on duty at the swimming pools at alltimes. Some do have a sign indicating this and that swimming is at your own risk.Please be cautious, particularly with children. The depth and design of hotel pools vary.We suggest in all cases that you familiarise yourself with each pool, particularly prior to any diving. We also advise extra care when staying in accommodation with privatepools. This can be very dangerous for young children, when not supervised for a splitsecond. The government offers advice on safety on the Internet: www.fco.gov.uk. Whenour hotels provide cots for infants, it is suggested that parents satisfy themselves withthe safety features prior to use, and particular caution should be exercised with regard to room facilities.

HELICOPTER TRANSFERSThere are strict restrictions on the size and weight of luggage allowance on helicoptertransfers in Mauritius. Baggage will be transferred by road at an additional cost which willneed to be pre-paid. Please ask for full details when booking.

ADDITIONAL SEYCHELLES INFORMATIONThe currency is the Seychelles rupee. However, settlement of bills in hotels must be made inforeign currency. The £ sterling, Euro € and US $ are widely accepted. It is not advisable topurchase rupees before you travel, as they are rarely required on the islands.

SEA GRASSDuring certain times of the year some of the Seychelles beaches get covered in sea grassand hence the swimming from these beaches is not ideal. However, as Sainte Anne has achoice of three beaches there is usually at least one beach to enjoy.

CUISINELocal Creole cooking and seafood are specialities. Good quality restaurants are rare andthe best restaurants are found in the top hotels.

ISLAND TIMEExperience a slower pace of life. Whilst things get done in the Seychelles, nothinghappens immediately – it’s one of the reasons that the isl ands are so relaxing.

ADDITIONAL DUBAI, ABU DHABI AND MARRAKECH INFORMATIONRAMADANRamadan is celebrated annually in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and in 2014 will run fromapproximately 28 June to 27 July. During Ramadan, it is important to note that allMuslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Eating, drinking and smoking in public areas, as wellas live entertainment during this time is generally prohibited for all. All of our featuredhotels make special arrangements for their guests, including specific restaurants whichwill be open through the day. Alcohol is served from 7pm onwards only. Ramadan inMarrakech is a more relaxed affair, with most hotel outlets open as usual throughout the day.

CLOTHINGIn public areas, please respect the local religion and cover up swimwear when appropriate.

SPORTSNon-motorised water sports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are available at most beach hotels.Motorised water sports are available at a cost. Golf tee times can be pre-booked with usfrom the UK before you depart. All other excursions can be booked with our groundhandlers when in or at the hotel’s concierge desk. The Dune Safari drives are not for thefaint-hearted, the 4x4 vehicles are used to their maximum and if you suffer from anythingsuch as a bad back, or are pregnant they are not recommended.

BUILDING WORKSExtensive building works in Dubai and Abu Dhabi continue to change the landscape and itis a reality that wherever you are construction will be visible and in some cases heard. Itis, however, recognised that any unavoidable disruption is to be kept to a minimum, andall the hotels make every effort to ensure that guests have and enjoyable holiday. Thedevelopments are not under Beachcomber’s control, nor are Beachcomber always madeaware of them in advance.

ARBITRATION SCHEMEFurther information on the Code and arbitration can be found on ABTA’s websitewww.abta.com. The arbitration scheme is arranged by ABTA and administeredindependently. It provides for a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documentsalone with restricted liability on you in respect of costs. Full details will be provided onrequest or can be obtained from the ABTA website. The scheme does not apply to claims foran amount greater than £5,000 per person. There is also a limit of £25,000 per bookingform. Neither does it apply to claims which are solely in respect of physical injury or illnessor their consequences. The scheme can however deal with compensation claims whichinclude an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,500 on the amount thearbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. The application for arbitration andStatement of Claim must be received by ABTA within eighteen months of the date of returnfrom the holiday. Outside this time limit, arbitration under the Scheme may still be availableif the company agrees, but the ABTA Code does not require such agreement. For injury andillness claims, you may like to use the ABTA Mediation Procedure. This is a voluntary

EU FLIGHT REGULATIONS In accordance with EU regulations we are required to advise you of the actual carrieroperating your flight/connecting flight/transfer. We do this by listing carriers to be used orlikely to be used on pages 76-78 and at www.beachcombertours.co.uk. Any changes tothe actual airline after you have received your tickets will be notified to you as soon aspossible and in all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate. Very rarely, we may beforced by adverse weather conditions (not necessarily in your own resort) and other “forcemajeure” situations to terminate your holiday before the due date or time and/or makealternative arrangements for your return journey. This is extremely unlikely but if thissituation does occur, we regret we will be unable to make any refunds (unless we obtainany refunds from our suppliers), pay you any compensation or meet any costs or expensesyou incur as a result. Under EU law (Regulation 261/2004) you have the right in somecircumstances to refunds and/or compensation from your airline in cases of deniedboarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights will be publicised atEU airports and will also be available from airlines. However, reimbursement in suchcases will not automatically entitle you to a refund of your holiday cost from us. Your rightto a refund and/or compensation from us is set in point 6 of our booking conditions. If anypayments to you are due from us, any payment made to you by the airline will bededucted from this amount. If your airline does not comply with these rules, you shouldcomplain to the Air Transport Users’ Council on 020 7240 6061 www.atuc.org.uk.

FINANCIAL SECURITYThe Company is a member of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA V1892). It alsoholds an Air Travel Organisers Licence issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (ATOL 2995).

When you buy a holiday which includes a flight, then you are protected under the ATOLscheme. This means that your money is protected and you can get home in the unlikely eventthat we collapse whilst you are abroad. You will receive a Confirmation Invoice from us (or viaour authorised agent through which you booked) and you will receive an ATOL Certificate.This certificate lists the flight, accommodation, car hire and/or other services that arefinancially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who tocontact if things go wrong. We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, willprovide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In somecases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, analternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitablealternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances thealternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any moneyoutstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However,you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOLholder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or yourcredit card issuer where applicable). Those holidays which do not include international flightsdeparting from the UK will be protected under the ABTA Scheme. Beachcomber cannotbe held responsible for changes in facilities for beyond 19 December 2014.
