Due to Covid-19 (Coronavirus) the government has made the decision to close schools for a period of time. We still have a responsibility to ensure that children are educated and that the excellent progress they have made so far this year is not slowed.

We have put together a plan, so that children can complete work and revision related to their current and previous curriculum.

What shape is it? When do you see it? Why have people put them on their windows? What does it represent? Does you know how rainbows form?

Read explanation text of how rainbows form (in attached file) and discuss the features of explanation texts. (E.g. what type of text is it? How is it organised? What are the features such as: main heading, sub heading, diagram, picture, caption)

Watch video clip to consolidate how rainbows are formed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCPPLhPTAIk

Complete the challenges using the text. Some are comprehension of the text.

Maths- 20 minutes Times Tables Rockstars practise each day

Division

Reminder of last week’s looking at multiplication in different ways using:https://vimeo.com/415086682 Y3 related calculations. Remember how to get 2 x and 2 ÷ number sentences from one number sentence. Eg 3 x 5 = 155 x 3 = 1515 ÷ 5= 315 ÷ 3 = 5

What happens when you x10 and 3 becomes 30, then 3 x 2 and 30 x 2? What do you notice about the answer?

Multiply two digit by 1 digit (1)https://vimeo.com/415086842

Create a place value chart like the one below. Go through these egs

Page 4: Great Malvern, Somers Park and Malvern Vale Schools › sh-somerspark-co…  · Web viewGreat Malvern, Somers Park and Malvern Vale Schools. School closure: learning provision. Due

Try other questions on the attached worksheets. For each write place value chart. Use partition (splitting the tens and the units) as above on the right, then write the written method on the right of the second example.

Extension – Have a go at these scaling activitiesWhite Rose Maths – scalinghttps://vimeo.com/415087218

*All this practise will improve your TT Rockstars scores and help you with many areas of Maths!WritingCompound WordsIntro – how many words can you make from the letters in rainbow? Did you find rain and bow?

Can you think of anymore compound words? Here are some examples

Page 5: Great Malvern, Somers Park and Malvern Vale Schools › sh-somerspark-co…  · Web viewGreat Malvern, Somers Park and Malvern Vale Schools. School closure: learning provision. Due

Look at the PP slide and two tables of words. Choose a word from each box to make compound words and then write a sentence for three of the words. Challenge: now use the words to make up new words and create a definition. Extra: Compound word wordsearch.

Rainbow Eye Poem

Read the poem. What do you notice? (Each verse is about a different colour in the rainbow). What red things can the poet see? What green things are described? Discuss any tricky vocab e.g. sprawling, hyacinth, amethyst. What types of colours are indigo and violet? What emotions do the colours make you think of/feel?

What do you think would be a good title for the poem? ‘Eye Spy with my Rainbow Eye’.

Complete an ideas sheet with new ideas for each colour. Draw/ write new ideas for each colour on table.

Write up your verse for each colour on writing frame and then copy up in neat on coloured paper to create the pupil of an eye.

Then create a rainbow front cover using pastels.

Well-being

Managing EmotionsDiscuss how we go through lot of different emotions at different times. Create a mindmap of different emotions. Focus on anger. How does being angry make you feel? What happens to your body? What could be the consequences of getting angry? We all feel angry at times, what could we do to help ourselves to calm down in situations when we are getting angry?Watch video clip of children talking about ways they deal with anger. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmmgrj6 What ways work for you? Watch the second clip explaining why we get angry.

Record strategies on a ‘credit card’ to keep with them.Ready for next year – tell your new teacher all about yourself! In the attached documents is an all about me file. You could print it off and fill in parts or all of it or create your own version of what you want your next teacher to know about you. This will be in the next home learning plan too so don’t feel you need to do it all at once. This is what the first two pages look like.

Please email us through the school office if you have any questions or need any further help with this work.
