The Big and Little Update

Gyasi and I did our first volunteer overnight shift at the Out Of The Cold homeless shelter in downtown

St. Catharines. We are basically front door security, ensuring everything runs smoothly between 11pm -

7am. Gyasi’s been helping me out with this the last few years. We do one Saturday shift per month during the

winter months when the program is running.

This is Gyasi’s last year of high school. He graduates and plans on going to Sheridan College in Toronto next year. While I was driving him home in the morning he

said to me, “Well, I’ll be in Toronto for school, but I can come home once a month on the weekends to help

out with you? We’re a good team.” Of course I said yes. That made me feel good to hear. It showed me how this

experience has really impacted him, and is making a difference with his priorities.

Marty Mako - Big Brother

Excitment at the Children’s Christmas Party!

Thanks to all of our Ambassador Program participants for your hard work in 2013! We are

currently looking for more Littles who enjoy public speaking to be ambassadors for our agency. If you, or someone you know would be interested, contact

Rachel Mills, PR & Communications Officer at [email protected]

2013 has been a whirlwind of a year. All of our programs have seen increases in the number of children served. We are currently in a record 60 schools with our

In-School Mentoring Programs! As the numbers of children rise, so does our wait list. We are always in need of mentors, especially men, to

help us empower the young people in our community. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, contact Hailey

Saunders, Volunteer Development Coordinator [email protected]
