The Battle The battle lasted several days. The confederate forces held out for as long as

they could. The union surrounded the southern forces and

was able to push them out of the fort. Was the first major Union victory in the west.

Confederacy surrendered at fort Donelson.

The battle of Fort Henry lasted 75 minutes and the Union won.

The victories at the two forts gave hope to the rest of the union.

Allowed access to the rest of Tennessee.
