and is not indifferent to our pain. Indeedhe himself has plumbed the depths ofpain: “he was despised and rejected bymen, a man of sorrows, and famil iar withsuffering” is one way the Bible puts it.
In the death and resurrection of Christwe discover how much God loves us; hechooses to share what it is to be humanand die a cruel death. But by his l ife healso challenges us to lead a life of love,a l ife that seeks the best for al l people,in which there is justice and opportunityfor al l , where all can have hope.
For those who struggle, whether withunemployment or many other sorts oftrials, this season is a reminder that Godis present with us in the midst. Forothers of us, perhaps it is a seasonwhere we can be challenged to activelyseek and work towards a society wherethere is equality, justice and opportunityfor al l and where none are left hopeless.
With my love and prayers for renewedhope this Easter
Jane

From the Vicarage... .
Having children myself who havecompleted, or are just finishing, ful l timeeducation, I have been particularly awareof the impact our current economiccl imate is having on young people. Manyhave grown up with the expectation thatif you work hard at school you wil lprobably have plenty of job opportunitiesavailable to you at the end. For many thisis not proving true. Their expectationshave not been fulfi l led and many youngpeople are disi l lusioned and feelinghopeless. On the radio, I recently heardinterviews with various young peoplewho had applied for numerous jobs;often their applications were leftunacknowledged. One young man saidthat after three years and unsuccessful lyapplying for numerous jobs, he had oftenwept with despair and wondered if it waseven worth getting out of bed in themorning. What a tragic waste of somuch potential ! Faced with long termunemployment at such a young age, theconcern is that some of these youngpeople wil l never enter the work place. Asense of hopelessness is what many inthis situation experience.
In this season of Lent we look forwardwith hope to Easter day. But to thosewho experience such feelings ofhopelessness what can this seasonoffer? Before we get to Easter, weremember the events that led up to it.We remember that Christ suffered butthe Christian belief is that it was not justa good man suffering. Many good menhave suffered and continue to do so.Jesus was both man and God and so inJesus, God shares human life. He knowswhat it is l ike to be human. Therevelation of God’s involvement has notmade the suffering any less, nor has ittold us why the world should be this way.But we do know that God is involved withus, he knows what its l ike to be human

Bag it and Bin itBut don’t leave it hanging on the schoolfence! – two people have complainedabout a dog walker picking up dogfaeces, placing it into a bag and thenleaving the bag hanging on the schoolfence. This is shameful. There is noneed for dog mess bags to be leftaround the vil lage. Bags can be placedin any litter bin. The Councilunderstands that BANES have beenasked to instal l a bin at the bungalowend of Birdcage Walk which shouldleave no excuse for dog walkers not todispose of dog mess responsibly.
