Banff Trail Riders will give you a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We’ve been helping travellers explore the wilderness on horseback

since 1962. It’s a tradition we’re proud of. It’s also why we provide

travellers with 17 unique trips to choose from. Go trail-riding along

the wildlife-rich shores of the Bow River for a few hours, take the

family on an authentic cowboy cookout or stay at a comfortable lodge

nestled in backcountry.

BANFF HORSEBACK RIDING ADVENTURES FOR

ALL SKILL LEVELS

With about 300 horses in our stables, we’re able to pinpoint the

absolute perfect horse for any rider.

If you’ve never been riding before, we’ll be sure to pair you with the

perfect horse, so you can enjoy a comfortable ride.

After all, Banff Trail Riders wants both seasoned horsemen and

horsewomen as well as new riders to have the time of their lives.

Our trail guides need to have more than just equestrian experience

– they are friendly, warm and clever enough to deal with the

unexpected.

When bringing new cowboys

and cowgirls into the fold, we

also make sure they know how

to work with both new and

experienced riders. If needed,

they’ll give you some tips that

will help you out during the trip.

Pony LeadsFor children ages 3-5 years of age, we offer pony leads from

either location on a first come first serve basis.

Departs: Warner Stables & Spray River Corrals

Spray River RideThis ride will take you past the Bow Falls, where you cross through

the Spray River. Continue along the edge of the Fairmont Banff

Springs Golf Course & cross through the waters once more. A partial

climb up Sulphur Mountain brings you through a wooded residential

area & back to the corrals.

Departs: Spray River Corrals 9am to 5pm DAILY

Bow River RideLet us guide you past the natural sulphur hot springs flowing from the

Cave & Basin - the original historic hot springs. The trail loops

around the marsh following the Bow River & then back to the Stables.

Departs: Warner Stables 9am to 6pm DAILY

Sulphur Mountain/Spray River RideFor those of you looking for a half-day ride that gives you an

introduction into the backcountry of Banff National Park. Climb two

thirds up Sulphur Mountain, past the world famous Rimrock Resort

Hotel & underneath the gondola. On your descent you will cross the

Spray River & follow the base of Mt. Rundle to the Bow Falls where you

will cross the Spray River once more.

Departs: Spray River Corrals at 9:30am & 2:30pm DAILY

Bow Valley Loop RideThis ride offers the greatest variety of scenery; it travels through

the Cave & Basin area & along the Sundance Canyon Trail to a thick,

lush forest. You’ll spend approximately 45 minutes riding through

the tranquility of the woods, where we often spot wildlife. Continue

your ride around the Windy Knoll as you climb Sulphur Mountain for

spectacular views of the Bow Valley. Follow the Bow River back to

the Stables.

Departs: Warner Stables at 9:30am & 1:30pm DAILY

Sundance Loop RideThis ride is an extension of our 1 hour Bow River Ride with a climb up

Sulphur Mountain to the Windy Knoll viewpoint. Looping back around

the marsh, you will follow the Bow River back to the Stables.

Ride to our 3 Mile Cabin for a Western BBQ

As one of the most popular tours, this adventure is perfect for a group

of friends or a unique excursion suitable for the entire family.

First you’ll ride along the Bow River while watching for wildlife and

enjoying the spectacular scenery. Midway through the ride, you’ll

arrive at 3 Mile Cabin to enjoy genuine western hospitality and some

tasty comfort food. But before digging in, work up an appetite with a

few western-style games, like lassoing and horseshoes.

Your return trip will include riding along Sulphur Mountain Trail and

a climb up and around the Windy Knoll, where dazzling views of the

sky-piercing mountains await.

This ride is also perfect for youngsters. Anyone joining your group can

choose to take a relaxing wagon ride along the Bow River to 3 Mile

Cabin and then re-join the group for an authentic cowboy dinner.

* After Labour Day the ride departs at 4pm–7pm.** Youth must be accompanied by an adult. 3 years and under are free in the wagon.

Backcountry Trips

Become a Carriage DriverA truly unique opportunity. Go behind the scenes and learn what it

takes to be a carriage driver.

Meet your guide at the stables where you will be given a slicker and

Cowboy hat, the hat is even yours to keep. Wear some boots and

bring some gloves, you’ll need them. Assist our driver in preparing

one of our heavy horses for their day of carriage rides. Feed, clean

and harness the horse, then you will be given instruction on how to

drive the carriage. The highlight of this experience is when you get

the opportunity to drive the carriage from our stables to our store

on Banff Avenue, under the watchful eye of our guide.

Cowboy for a dayMeet your guide down at the stables and help saddle your horse and

learn the art of diamond hitches and packing. This full day adventure

will give you a glimpse of cowboy life in the mountains. This ride

offers the greatest variety of scenery; it travels through the Spray

River Valley. Along the ride you will capture panoramic views from

Sulphur Mountain. Lunch is included and is prepared trailside. On the

homeward trek, ride along the base of Mt. Rundle, you will experience

unique views of the Spray River as you return to Banff.

Downtown Tour From our Trail Rider Store this tour takes you through town

and along the Bow River. You will pass by many of the original

homesteads of Banff, each having a story to tell. From the Bow River

you pass by Banff’s Central Park and back onto Banff Avenue for

your return to The Trail Rider Store.

Up to 6 passengers. Tour departs from our store at 132 Banff Ave.

Bow River TourFrom downtown we will take you over the Bow River and past the Indian

Trading Post (home of the Merman!!) and through one of Banff’s quaint

neighbourhoods. We follow the Bow River and loop back to downtown

crossing the bridge again before we return to the Trail Rider Store.


Fairmont Banff Springs TourThis is our ultimate carriage ride which combines the Downtown Tour

and the Bow River Tour and includes us travelling past the world famous

Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.


Wedding & Private CarriagesThis package includes a pick-up, drop-off and tour for up to an hour

long from most locations in Banff. Rate includes some waiting time

so you won’t have to worry if you are running a few minutes late and

can be customized to suit your special day.
