To you aione, 0 Lord, toyou
alone, and
not tousglory must be given (Ps. 115).
As we
begin
2007, we would like to remind
ourselvesand our friends ofthe purposeofGMM s ministry.
Lastyear it was apparent in manyofour church gatherings,
conventions and church
publications,
thatweare one
Body,
t he C hu rc h
of ou r Lord Jesus Christ. W e wish to continue
working
with
this emphasis, Together
n
Christ,
for
this
is
GMM s vision.
Global Missionary Ministries
wasstarted
during
the
days when countries of Central and Eastern Europe were
ruled by an atheistic communist regime. t was a time of
imprisonment, persecution and underground church activity.
During thisperiod of
time
wewereableto reachthese people
groups with the
Gospel through
radio messages and the
printed
page. We
visited
and encouraged them with our
presence and benevolent
involvement.
Now thispartofthe
world is free. The Gospel is being preached by younger,
better educated, national preachers. We are gladly
partnering with them in establishing new, non-
denominational, self-supporting,
self-propagating,
Christian
churches,
which
effectively
reach out to the younger and
older sector of today s changing world.
This
is GMM s
strategy.

BACK TO THE FUTURE - RUSSIAN ROOTS
Much is beingsaid lately about
New Tes tament
Christ ian
Churches in Eastern
and
Central Europe. Weare happy
to hear this. It is a unique
situation that all three GMM
missionaries have
firm
family
roots in this region. We
rememberour fathers' prayers
for those left behind. As
we
look
forward
to things
which
are
before us, let us be reminded
what wonderful things
God hasdone in thepast.
t
was
in
the
mid-1920's that John K
Huk, father
of Vera Bajenski,
immigrated to Canada. The Repetski
family
arrived
in
the
1940's.
They all
lived andworked in thiswonderful free
land,
never
forgetting
the people left
in spiritually dark Russia.
They prayed
for
freedom
and a spiritual awakening toccme
totheirpeople, andGod answered.
n
1963 John K Huk, whowas ministering at that
time
to a Russian
Evangelical Christian
congregation
in
Toronto, invited
Gene
Dulin,
of
TCM (Toronto Christian
Mission), to
join him
and visit churches
behind
the
iron
curtain. Brother John
knew
these churc hes and
the
conditions
under
which
they
were
working.
t
washere,
while
in
his teens, that he was
influenced
by the teaching of a
compelling Evangelical Christian movement led by a
well
known Russian leader, Ivan Prokhanov. John accepted
Christ, and later became a minister and influential church
leader,
both
in Russia and North America. Jacob Repetski,
(George Repetski's father), had a
similar
experience. He,
too,was greatlyaffected by Ivan Prokhanov'sministry.
While
living
in Pinsk, Belarus, Jacob served with the Evangelical

Christian
Church as a youth leader. He faithfully served the
Lord
for many years. One
of his
most poignant memories
was from
1943
when hebaptized 233 people ononeoccasion in thecity of
Slutsk, while Belarus
was
still
under
Nazi
occupation.
Yes,
Mr
Prokhanov
left
a deep
mark
onthe
spiritual
lives
of countless Russian
people. He was also known and highly
respected among many Christian Churches
in North
America.
However, itwas
not until
the
memorable trip
of
1963, when
John
K and Gene visited the Soviet Union, that
regular
contact
between North American Christian
Churches/Churches
of Christ
and Russian Evangelical Christian Churcheswas established.
Sincethis
time,
thousands of
people
havebeen reached
with
the
Gospel. Humbly, wecan
say, 'thank
you Lord,' for all
those
who
opened this door,
including
ourfathers, who started this ministry
(GMM), and became
instruments
in restoring
a
relationship
between
Christianmovements in the
Eastand West.

Concerning
the
future
ofGMM's ministry, weare full of
optimism,
because the
Church
weare building belongs to
Christ,
and we are just his instruments. We would like to recall a
quotation from Ivan Prokhanov's autobiography. Inthe Cauldron
ofRussia, Almost all
my life
Ihave lived
in
Russia, the
country
of
the greatest sorrows. From the human standpoint pessimism
would be
fully justified
in thosewho
live
in Russia. But owing to
the accepted light from Christ I have lived more than half a
century in Russia,under
both
former and presentconditions, with
the radiant heartofan
optimist.
Here wewould also like to say
with Brother Prokhanov, the best isyettocome

Another place, where
GMM s missionary commitment is
greatly
contributing
in
present-day
Church growth in Europe, Is
Poland. Hereagain is a situation
where ou r contact with local

/Churches ofChriststarted their
work
in Poland in 1921,when
Konstantin
Yaroshevich,
a graduate ofJohnson Bible
College
inKnoxville, TN, returned to his homeland
with
the Good News
ofChrist. God
blessed
his
ministry
and in a
short time many
new
churches
were
established. Most of his work
was
concentrated
in the rural eastern
parts
of the
country,
today s western
Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine.
I
(George Bajenski) would like
to
recall onefactwhich
greatly
influenced
my
life.
My
father, Paul
Bajenski,
accepted
Christ during
one such
village service
conducted
by
Mr Yaroshevich. Later my father
became a
preacher and
joined
others in spreading the
Good News
of
Christ
across the
land.
By the time the Second
World War
started
(1939),
there were 85 new churches
functioning in
Poland.
The 1950 s were
difficult
years
in
Poland;
churches
were closed, ministers arrested, but the
Lord
was
with
us.
Gradually doors
were
being
opened and
ministers,
including
my father,
returned
home
to
their ministries. Life
was
returning
to
normal. This
wasthe
time
thatGod spoketo
me.
Iopened
my
heartandaccepted Jesus as
my
personal
Savior.

Another important
development in
church
life in
Poland
during this
period was increasedcontact
with
American
churches.
Paul
and
Adela
Bajko,
new
immigrants
to the
USA,
were re-establishing themselveswith newcontacts
in Europe
after
yearsofwar and separation from family and friends. God
used these faithful servants to become spokespersons on
behalf of the Church in Poland. Thanks to their efforts, Kostek
Jakoniuk an d I
were
able to come in
1959
to th e United
States
to
study
at Eastern Christian and Lincoln
Christian Colleges.
n
the
middle
ofthe 1960 s, one
could
observe
definite
changes
in
the life of churches in Poland. There was more music, more
youth involvement and greater numbers of people
coming
to
services. The 1970 s and 1980 s
brought major political
changes
in
Poland,
which
caused
much
social unrest.
This,
in
turn, motivated our greater
involvement in
benevolent
(Christians
ofEncouragement) and evangelistic activities. God
usedall of
this
to
build
andstrengthen his
Church.
n
the1990 s
the
Warsaw
Church under
the
ministry
of
Andrew Bajenski grew
to become the largest independent Christian Church
in
the
country with over600attending Sundayservices.
Through all of these stages GMM has been closely
involved in
th e
lifeof Polish
churches.
We
t hank t he
Lord for all
He
has done
in
thepast.
Now
weare looking into the
future
with
optimism.
We
believe
each generation has an
obligation
and
holds
the
key
to reach
their
own
generation and people and
lead
them toChrist. Yes,
things around
usare changing, butthe
Truth,
Jesus
Christ
and
His Gospel, remains
unchanged
forever
(Heb. 13;8). n GMM s
missionary
outreach
to
Central
and
Eastern Europe
we
want
tobe relevant tothechanges, but
above
all,
we
want
tobe
faithful
tothe
Lord
(Matt.
25:21).
Aswe
look backto ourroots, wewantto se ewhatthe futureholds, and
the
future looks bright, indeed.
