    Europe

    especially Poland

    Czechoslovakia,and thousands of people are able to hear the

    SERVICES IN THE SLAVIC CHURCH

    Everybody was looking forward to special services during the Holida

    Season.

    There

    was much

    the Youth of our church

    met

    to

    decor

    the Christmas

    t ree

    the Christmas spi r i t

    was a lr eady present . Immed

    tely following we

    had

    a

    wonderful

    prayer-meeting. Sunday

    morning

    had a

    two

    hour service withi a Christmas

    program

    There

    were

    special

    bers

    in the form of r e c i t a t i on s and choir and orches t ra numbers. T

    was

    a sermon

    in English and

    Russian,

    congregational s inging, and

    Lord s

    Supper

    was

    observed.

    In the

    evening , acco rd ing

    to

    Polish

    t r a

    t ion

    families met

    in

    t he i r homes

    with

    special

    guests

    / those who do

    have fam ilies or single people are invi ted to spend Christmas Eve w

    fami l ies/

    around

    the

    table

    to r meditation about the bi r th

    of

    Chr is t

    prayer a big Christmas mea| and the singing of carols.

    The

    main p rogram in

    the church

    was

    on Christmas Day

    with

    another 2

    service in which

    many

    Day, we had special services

    found

    t h a t t h e Churches o f C h r i s t / C h r i s t i a n / i n Poland which

    t e

    t h e i r beginning t o

    1921 and which

    grew

    r a p i d l y

    under

    t h e n a t i v e

    dedicated l eadersh ip including

    P au l s f a th er went

    through rough t r i

    d u r i n g t h e Second

    World

    War.

    A f t e r t h e war t h e work was renewed w i t h

    new

    s t r e n g t h f o r a s h o r t t i

    In 1 9 5 0 a l m o s t all t h e

    l e a d e r s

    w e r e arrested

    a n d

    t h e c h u r c h e s w e r e c

    sed. Almost a l l t h e m i n i s t e r s

    were

    sentenced t o 3 y e a r s i n p r i s o n

    only

    a

    few of them escaped

    t h e sentence.

    A t that

    t i m e

    there w a s

    a

    trend in

    P o l a n d

    to unite all t h e c h u r c h e s i

    one

    u n i t e d

    church.

    T h e r e f o r e

    some

    of

    the

    compromising

    preachers

    brou

    t h e

    Church o f C h r i s t i n to t h e United E v a n g e l i c a l Church.

    When the l a s t of our m i n i s t e r s

    was

    r e l e a s e d

    from

    p r i s o n i n 1953 they

    t a r t e d to work toward independence

    from

    the

    U.E.Ch. However it

    was

    l a t e because

    everything

    was

    l e g a l i z e d by t h e

    government

    and it loo

    a s if t h e C h u r c h

    o f

    C h r i s t w as

    b u r i e d

    i n t h a t

    U n i o n .

    ward the restorat ion of the teachings and practices of the Church as

    i s revealed in

    the Scriptures .

    Many

    1958 two

    students

    were

    brought from

    Poland

    Kostek

    Jakoniuk

    George Bajenski and

    were

    trained for

    5-6 years a t Eastern Christian C

    lege and

    Lincoln

    Christian College under

    complete

    sponsorship of

    the

    partment

    of Missions.

    the Russian and Polish languages

    In 1960

    the

    f i r s t Christian broadcast

    in

    the

    Polish

    language was sta

    ted through

    the

    Monte Carlo Station with

    financial

    backing of

    the

    Go

    Broadcasting Mission

    Bro. and

    Sister Cobles founders

    and

    then

    the

    cond

    Christian

    Broadcast

    in

    a Russian-Ukrainian languages

    in the city

    The

    publication and Radio

    ministry

    grew to

    such an extent

    tha t i t

    was

    cessary to ca l l

    for

    help

    and

    in

    1967

    Bro. Winnik arr ived from

    the Department of Missions.

    he is very busy

    with

    re s t of

    the s ta f f of the Dept.
