Term 3 Highlights: Term 3 has certainly been another busy term of learning at Avenel Primary School. Whether it was delivering a workshop at the Kids Teaching Kids day, preparing for the Grade 5/6 Production or working through scientific challenges during Science Week, our students have certainly had multiple opportunities to shine and numerous formats in which to share and show their learning. As an educational community, we are proud of the diverse curriculum we have been able to offer our students and prouder still of the unerring way in which our students rise to each challenge. Thank you to our wonderful band of teachers Travis, Jania, Carrye, Lisa, Anne, Kahlia, Sarah, Kate, Rosie and Lucy for the incredible dedication they have shown over the term. Thank you to Fiona, Ruby and Sue for the contribution they make in their role as integration aides and to Lorraine and Dee for their administrative work. Thanks also to our School Councillors for the dedication they bring to their role; over the course of the last few terms, our School Council has been dynamic in their efforts to continue to further improve our school. Finally, a warm thank you to all those members of our Parents & Friends committee who have delivered a number of great fundraising events during Term 3 and are busily preparing for Term 4. Footy Colours Day With the football season reaching its conclusion, our students are certainly looking forward to showing off their allegiance on Friday as part of our end of term Footy Colours day. All students are welcome to wear the colours of their favourite team and our Junior School Council will also collect a gold coin donation to be forwarded to our sister school in Tanzania, the Steven Tito Academy. We will also be running a number of several cross-age football activities to give our students the opportunity to show off their skills. Nits Unfortunately, over the last week we have had notifications of the presence of nits. Over the holidays, I would be grateful if everyone could make a concerted effort to detect nits in their child’s hair. We will organise our “nitbuster” crew for a whole school inspection during week one of Term 4. Early Dismissal A reminder that on Friday we will be finishing at the earlier dismissal time of 2.30pm. We will conclude the term with an end of term assembly starting at 2.15pm. Please make appropriate arrangements to have your child picked up at 2.30pm if you are unable to do so. The school buses will also be departing at this time. Avenel Kindergarten and Primary School Fundraiser On October Saturday October 21st, a fundraising gala dinner will be held at Fowles Winery on behalf our school and the Avenel Kindergarten. The aim of the night is to provide members of our community with the opportunity to connect and enjoy a social evening. Tickets are available from our office or alternatively you can make contact with the organisers Kate Steers, Catherine McAllister and Amanda Allison (contact details are in the advertisement in the newsletter). Amanda will also be present at our end of term assembly if you wish to pre-order a ticket. Many thanks to the organising group of this activity – they put together what promises to be a great night.

Grade 5/6 Production Tonight is the night for our Grade 5/6 students as they tread the boards for their production of Cinderella Rockerfella! Memories of our Grade 5/6 Productions linger on well after the performance itself and at Monday’s Assembly I recounted a conversation with some Year 12 students who were sharing their special memories of their production. A big thank you to Mrs Malone and Mrs Phoenix who have worked as a fabulous team in shaping the production. Many thanks also to all of our other others teachers who have pitched in to make the show come together. Looking forward to seeing a wonderful performance tonight. Looking Ahead to Term 4 After an amazingly busy Term 3, Term 4 promises to be even more action packed. During the forthcoming term, we will have Grade 5/6 students competing in the Energy Breakthrough Challenge in Maryborough, Grade 5/6 students cycling from Mansfield to Tallarook during the Grade 5/6 Bike Hike, the Junior Team excursion and sleepover, the Grade 6 Valedictory, our Swimming Program and many other events besides. Once again, I thank everyone for a great term and wish everyone a restful two week holiday. All the best, Neil
