A Peek at Last Week …
• Our U7 to U9 hockey players
took part in matches at Draken-
sig on Friday 2 September.
• A number of SCS boys partici-
pated in provincial cricket trials
playing for the Letaba regional
team on Friday 2 and Saturday 3
September.
• Our College boys’ and girls’
cricket teams played against
Khanyisa and Capricorn respec-
tively on Saturday 3 September.
• Our Prep School tennis teams
performed very well against
Unicorn Prep on Monday 5 Sep-
tember.
• A number of our Grade 5 to 7
learners participated in the final
round of the AMESA competition
on Wednesday 7 September.
• Our U11 and U13 teams played
Namakgale Development on
Thursday 8 September.
Our Grade 8 to Grade 11 learners from the College spent a week away from school on educational trips from Monday 29 August to Friday 2 September. Each grade went to a different location and was accompanied by teachers from the school. The Grade 8 class went to the Schoemansdal Environmental Education Centre which is situated at the foot of the Sout-pansberg. The group had great fun completing obstacle courses and educational games. They also explored the mountain on an overnight hiking expedition. The Grade 9 class went on an adventure camp at Waterval Boven. Various activities including rock climbing, abseiling and hiking allowed the learners to face their fears and to experience life in the bush without home comforts.
The Grade 10 class headed off to the bright lights of Gauteng where they did a cultural and historical tour. They visited places like the “Cradle of Humankind” at Maropeng, the Voortrekker Monument, the Apartheid Museum, Gold Reef City and the Constitutional Court. Their understanding of South African history and culture was strongly enhanced by the experience. The Grade 11 class went on a course offered by Magoebask-loof Adventures. The course dealt with fear and trust, look-ing at leadership styles, challenging the learners by having them abseil off a 30m cliff, hiking up a mountain, tubing in freezing water and finally doing a magnificent canopy tour.
Thanks to all the staff that planned and joined these trips.

Our U11 and U13 cricket
teams remain unbeaten
this season. Both teams
were, however, made to
work hard for their most
recent victories against
the Namakgale Develop-
ment teams. The U11s
played away and batted
first for the first time
this season. They managed
to post 125 runs for 1
wicket in their 20 overs.
The top batsman was Kieran McDonald who scored 59 not out. He was well supported by Michaela Naude
who scored 20 and Dewald Dumon who made 18 not out. Namakgale were then restricted to 82 for 9 in
their twenty overs. The U11s therefore won by 43 runs.
Our U13 team had a much closer game, also batting first, they were bowled out for 98 well before the end
of their 30 overs. Daniel Pearson top scored with 18 runs. Namakgale then lost some early wickets with
Kevin Braun and Mubashar Asif striking early. The middle order then managed to frustrate the SCS bowl-
ers and took the team to a position where they needed just 19 runs with 3 wickets in hand and plenty of
overs to come. Kevin and Mubashar again managed the breakthrough and got the last three wickets be-
tween them. Both bowlers ended up taking three wickets a piece and the team won by just 10 runs.
The Traveling School from the USA visited Southern Cross for the day on Tuesday 6 September. The group travels around Southern Africa and receives lessons as they go, from their accompanying teachers. They have been to Namibia and Botswana already and are now
making their way through South Africa.
Thank You:

source conservation posters
for our classrooms.
• Mr Andrew Smith for his
offer of instant grass for
our Founder’s and Earth
circles.
• Colonel Moonsamy and the
Air Force Gymnasium for
the donation of books for
our library.
College Cricketers Struggle Against Khanyisa
Our U17 team from the College hosted Khanyisa at Drakensig on Saturday 3 September. Our boys batted first and were bowled out for just 46 runs. Shaun Michael Preston was the only batsman who managed double figures with 11. Despite losing an early wicket the Khany-isa boys easily passed our boys’ score to win by 9 wick-
ets.
REMINDERS:
• Despite all the reminders we
are still waiting for a number
of Spring Walk forms to
come in. Parents please help
us to get these forms re-
turned.
• Family Build-it Day is on Sat-
urday 17 September.
• The next Organic Earth Mar-
ket takes place on Sunday 25
September.
After a week of learning all about islands the Pre-school had an Island Day - the children dressed up as islanders and wore lei’s they all made at school.
Tennis Players Achieve Success
The Prep School tennis team went to Tzaneen to play Unicorn Prep on Monday 5 September. The girls played well but unfor-tunately lost their matches. The boys played superbly and showed a huge improvement in their serving. Marc Gómez – Olivé, having started tennis only this term, won his first ever singles match 6-1! The boys showed awesome skills at the net and both doubles partners won their games 6-1. The final score was 27-16 in our favour. Well done to all our tennis players.
