1. ESTABLISH LEAGUE TIME-LINE Discuss a potential league time-line with a key staff person and those responsible scheduling and budgets. Make sure facility schedule is open for desired league time-line. Think through the whole league schedule, from beginning to end. 2. SELECT KEY DATES The key dates will help fill in the details of the league time-line. The key dates include the period for promotion and sign-ups, session schedule, and contest schedule. Be aware and make adjustments with key dates that might conflict with major holidays or facility availability during the league time-line. 3. SECURE FACILITIES Determine if league will be performed on-site at your church or off-site at a local facility. Book the facility that you choose. Keep in mind enough dates for each session, a league-ending contest, and for possible weather cancelations for facilities that are outside. This is an all inclusive fee for league promotional material, league coordinator and coaches mate-rial, and rider packages. Establish a league budget. Determine what additional equipment, material, and insurance is needed to operate the league. Determine if the registration fee needs to be raised to accommo-date scholarships, shipping cost, contest costs, and facility and equip-ment cost. Determine if you will have a late registration fee.

5. CONTACT BALLER ACTION LEAGUE REPS Baller Action league reps will assist you on establishing a league time-line, selecting key dates, and determining your registration fees. Notify reps when you have finalized league information to begin the promo-tional period.

FACILITY LAYOUTThe following is a facility option if you are going to host a league on-site with your own skate and bmx layout. GOSPEL SUMMARYThe Bible tells us that one day will be face to face with God and give an account of the life we lived. Are you ready for that day? What will you say? If you can’t say anything, what will your life say about you?

The Bible also tells us that our life must be right before God. The problem is that our sin separates us from God, the Holy one. However, there is hope in that your life can be right with God. Getting your life right means trusting solely on Gods work to solve your problem of sin and transform your life as God intended it to be. KEYS TO HAVE YOUR LIFE RIGHT WITH GOD: ADMIT that you are a sinner. Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (NLT) BELIEVE that Christ died and rose again for your sins. Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (NLT)

TRUST in Gods work to transform your life and not your own works. Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (ESV) COMMIT your life to Christ as your Lord and Savior. John 14:6, Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” (NLT)

KEYS IN RESPONDING TO GOD THE SON, JESUS: Despise your sins and confess them to God. Realize your only hope is having faith in the work of Christ to forgive your sins. Follow and honor Him with your whole life. Trust that you are now at peace with God and in a right relationship with Him. Know that you were created to do good works and fulfill the purposes of God. Learn what those purposes are and how you fit into them.

NEXT STEPS: Join a solid local church to encourage you in your new life. Seek out accountability. Read Gods Word. Actively seek growth. Talk to God. Don’t let your hunger and thirst for God die. Don’t live a wasted life. Tell others about the hope you have and what God has done in your own life.

LEAGUE CONTEST

1. ORGANIZE Have the League Coordinating team organize and schedule a league ending contest. Schedule facility time for a one day con-test. Account for multiple heats in each sport (skateboarding and bmx) and the number of riders entered. Schedule judges and sup-port staff. Post contest schedule. When planning for your contest you will want to devote about 8 hours of time to complete the entire event. Set-up should begin at least one hour before regis-tration begins.

2. FACILITY SET-UP Make sure facility is open and set-up for the contest. Provide needed equipment and seating areas for fans attending the contests. Make sure restrooms are open and available. Supply a station for judges, awards, check-in, and communication. Set-up a PA system and mic to communicate during the contest. Admin-ister facility set-up and clean up. 3. CONTEST REGISTRATION Once you have closed the registration and set up the course for the contest, you will give an open practice time to the riders to become acquainted with the obstacles for around 30 minutes. During this time you will take the contest roster and assign each participant to a specific group of 5 riders. Try to group the riders with those who have the same or similar skill set to make it as fair as possible during judging. To start the contest allow one hour for registration.

Page 21: BA League Coordinator Playbook

18

4.CONTEST FORMATFollowing the practice time, explain to the riders that next they will be competing in a qualifying round. Let them know that they have been assigned to a group. Each group will be called out when it is their time to compete.

When called each rider will be given 90 seconds to ride the course and perform their tricks. At the end of the 90 seconds they will be judged using the assigned scoring card. Once each rider in the group has performed and the scores have been tallied, move on to the next group. The top 2 scoring riders in each group advances to the final.

Announce, in no particular order, those who will be advancing to the final. Allow for a short break and then move to the final round. In the finals, each rider will be given another 90 second session to perform their best tricks. Judging will be the same as during the qualifying rounds. Once each rider has competed and the scores have been tallied, the winners and prizes can then be announced.

5. JUDGINGYou will need to have 3 to 5 judges. Each judge will be given a score card to subjectively score each rider on various skill as-pects during their session. Once each judge has finished scoring the participants, you will need to collect the score cards and add up the totals for each participant. (See the score cards on the fol-lowing pages).

Page 22: BA League Coordinator Playbook

Baller Action will supply some award options for the contest. Award options include custom skateboards, gear, and gift cards. 7. PRE-CONTEST Host practice contests to prepare for official end of league con-test. Follow format, rules, time, and judging criteria to improve on skills.
