CSI: Wind Turbine.

Thieves are not picky. They are increasingly targeting transformer and transfer stations for break-ins and burglaries. Access monitoring systems can protect these components, too.

Also open to transformer stations.

Benefi ts and features of access monitoring:

• WTG independent solution

• Motion sensor and remote monitoring are directly

connected via GSM modem

• Immediate alarm and response to

break-in attempts

• Audible alarm directly on WTG

• Internal acoustic sensor

• Prevents damage, downtime and loss of yield

• Not dependent on WTG type

Bad habits occasionally require more than just good words. Sometimes, you have to strike a more aggressive note. In the case of Availon’s WTG access monitoring system, that means a piercing acoustic alarm.

It automatically sounds as soon as someone enters the sensing range of the motion sensor installed in the entrance area of the WTG. The system simultaneously sends an alarm to the Remote Monitoring (RM) team via a GSM modem.

If the intruder does not leave the entrance area despite the alarm, RM will connect directly to the WTG via an acoustic sensor for further monitoring. If there are any suspicious sounds, staff can immediately notify the police.

A different kind of siren song.

Wind turbines are packed with valuables: precious copper cables, expensive electronics such as remote monitoring systems, and even entire machine compo-nents. They are an irresistible temptation for thieves. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, criminals looted WTGs around 260 times in one year and caused roughly 5.4 million euros in damage.

Being frequently located in rural areas, WTGs are prime targets. But that doesn’t mean they have to be defenseless. If intruders ignore Availon’s access monitoring warning sign, they may end up getting more than they bargained for.

Thieves aren’t precision engineers. They use crowbars, sledge-hammers or even power saws to access the coveted copper cables. And they can infl ict a lot of damage in the process.

Repairing this ”collateral damage“ is not only time-consuming, but also unprofi table since the turbine has to be idled during the repair. Depending on your deductible, your insurance may not even cover the losses, leaving you to pay everything yourself. One more reason to proactively protect yourself against break-ins and potential damage.

Stolen cables, wasted time.

Stopping thieves in their tracks.

Access monitoring includes:

• Motion sensor with GSM modem

• Signaling equipment for acoustic alarm

• Acoustic sensor inside the tower

Consistently loud.An alarm is also triggered if a service technician enters the motion sensor’s sensing range without fi rst registering with RM. The alarm turns off as soon as the technician leaves the area. RM will temporarily remotely deactivate the access monitoring system after a registration call, allowing the service tech to enter the WTG.
