MERRIWA CENTRAL SCHOOL I trust everyone had a relaxing holiday and managed to avoid the dreaded swine flu. The flu has moved into the stage where it is now treated like any other winter flu. The focus is to remind children of regular hygiene habits such as washing hands, and placing tissues in the bin. The DET has published new advice to parents for managing the flu. In short, children presenting flu like symptoms will be cared for in sick bay until a parent can be contacted to collect them. The aim of course is to care for all children, whilst minimising the opportunity for the flu to spread. Year 7 TAFE visit On Monday Year 7 students and their parents will travel to Tighes Hill TAFE in Newcastle to investigate career options. The visit is part of the MEGS program which aims to broaden the exposure of students to a range of career opportunities. I encourage all parents to attend and support their children on the day. Facilities up-graded Contractors have been busy over the holidays on both the primary and secondary sites. New carpet has been laid in six classrooms and it looks fantastic. Builders are in the process of replacing the infants, primary library, and great hall veranda’s. Security has been up-graded on both sites, and wireless computer access has been installed. It is anticipated that painters will start work in the next few weeks to freshen up some classrooms, and the primary library. A bathroom blitz has taken place in the primary toilets. Thanks to Kylie Austin, they now look great! Old friends Last week I was fortunate enough to catch up with Geoff and Allison Buchanan who were visiting Merriwa. Geoff was assistant principal at Merriwa Central School and has fond memories of Merriwa, and of our school. He was surprised by the number of changes on the primary site, and was keen to visit his old classroom. Geoff and Alison left Merriwa in 1973 and are now retired and living in Goulburn. Asthma friendly schools
Many children suffer from asthma, and treatment has changed over the years. As part of the asthma friendly schools program staff will complete training in asthma awareness and discuss with students the impact it may have on young children and how it is managed.

Human Swine Flu Information Sheet This year it is likely many more people will come down with flu‐like illnesses than in recent flu seasons because few people have immunity to the human swine flu virus. As the number of cases of flu increases, we all need to take steps to minimise the transmission of the virus in school communities as some staff and students are at greater risk of severe illness from flu. Staff or students who become unwell should stay away from school until they are well to minimise the transmission of the flu. Any student who identifies that they are unwell, or is displaying flu‐like symptoms at school will be sent to a sick‐bay area and their parent or carer will be called to take them home. Please watch carefully for any signs or symptoms of flu‐like illness in your child. If they are unwell please do not send them to school until their symptoms have gone. These symptoms include fever, cough, tiredness, muscle aches, sore throat, chills or shortness of breath. Some people are more likely to develop severe illness from both seasonal influenza and swine flu. NSW Health advises that this group includes people who:
Are pregnant (particularly in the second and third trimester)
Have chronic lung disease (including asthma) Are very obese Have chronic heart conditions Have chronic kidney disease Have chronic liver disease Have blood disorders (including sickle cell
disease) Have neurological disorders Have metabolic disorders (such as diabetes) Have weakened or suppressed immune systems
(which may be caused by cancers, medications or HIV/AIDS)
Are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background (of any age).
MERRIWA CENTRAL SCHOOL
If you or your child is in one of these categories, please seek urgent medical attention as soon as symptoms of flu appear because you may need anti-influenza medication and it works best if given early. The department has policies in place to support schools this flu season. I can assure you that the department will continue to act on all advice received from NSW Health to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and students. Additional health information is available from the H1N1 Influenza 09 section of the NSW Health w e b s i t e a t : h t t p : / /www.emergency.health.nsw.gov.au/swineflu/index.asp

English/HSIE/TAS Faculty Year 8 English Year 8 has just completed a unit on” Soldier Boy”; a novel about the youngest Anzac Jim Martin. As well as reading and discussing the novel, they also studied the poster campaign and how the posters positioned people; Australian attitudes towards Mother England and the Empire in 1915; read diary entries from soldiers in the trenches. Their assessment task was to write three separate diary entries form the perspective of a 16 -17 year old Australian male. The first entry was to detail the enlistment process and reasons for joining the army, the big adventure; the second was from the trenches, the mud, blood, sweat and tears; the third was a reflection from the hospital boat – was it all worth it?
I am very proud of the quality of writing they are producing and with the way they handled the task. Empathy writing is a difficult but necessary skill for students to develop and on the whole they have done it very well. Term 3 is the big crucial term for all Year 10 and Year 12 students. Heads down and tails up for the last term before the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate. Revise, revise, revise and complete past papers to prepare as best you can. The English Competition is on Tuesday 4 August. Good Luck to all those who entered. Geography Competition is Monday 3 August. Good luck to the geographers.

Secondary News
It is with great pleasure that I announce this week’s student of the week is Matthew McConnell of Year 7. Matthew is a dedicated student who always strives for success. He always goes above and beyond what is expected of him. Matthew respects his classmates and his teachers and can always be counted on to set a good example. He is always willing to help and does so without even being asked. On the academic side of the coin, Matthew claims his favourite subjects are Mathematics and Agriculture Science, however he is very capable and enthusiastic across all subject areas. Matthew enjoys sports and represented the school in the swimming carnival, zone and regional athletics, cricket and cross country. When he is not in school, Matthew enjoys playing soccer and helping his dad. As his future ambition, Matthew is planning to choose a career path with the Australian Navy. Congratulations to Matthew. He is a most deserving student of the week.

CASSILIS PUBLIC SCHOOL Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday. What a wonderful day we had for the Official Opening of our Investing in Our Schools Projects. The Hon. Mr Joel Fitzgibbon MP, was well received by our assembled group as he conducted the opening, and he was extremely impressed with our school. Mr Fitzgibbon was very interested to view the wonderful works undertaken through that funding. He also was quite appreciative of the lovely lunch provided by our P&C members. Well done ladies.

ST JOSEPH’S PRIMARY SCHOOL
The end of last term saw St Joseph’s looking very interesting, dressed in a funny mix of clothes. We celebrated our annual St Vincent De Paul day dressed in second hand or hand-me-down clothes. Children were most supportive of the cause and made donations of gold coins, second-hand clothes and non-perishable food items. After recess we were entertained by the talent quest which showcased some of the many talents our school has to offer – joke telling, playing musical instruments, singing and dancing just to name a few. Some of our talented performers are pictured below.
Grandparent’s Day Tomorrow we honour and give thanks for all grandparents as we celebrate the Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim, who were Jesus’ grandparents. Grandparents are very special people. They can bring much joy into the lives of their families and especially the lives of their grandchildren. Their life experiences have taught grandparents many valuable lessons that they can share with the young. Grandparents can bring a real sense of history to a family as they share many family stories. They can give the rest of the family a sense of belonging. Our grandparents have a special place in our families, our society and our world. They are a gift from God. We look forward to being joined by grandparents, grandparent figures, parents and friends. This date coincides with National Tree Day so we will be working together to establish our kitchen garden. We can’t wait for this to be up and running so we can eat the tasty produce in our canteen lunches each week! Year 5/6 News This term we will be looking at the exposition text type as we prepare to participate in the Upper Hunter Regional Debating Competition. We will practise our public speaking skills by preparing speeches, which will be presented later in the term at the public speaking competition. We will also be looking at social and global issues in our theme unit. Whilst we work on this unit we will be looking at a petition we have received to the House of Representatives which is asking for support for the nomination of East Timor for the Award of Companion of the Order of Australia (Honorary). The petition aims to officially recognise the unique contribution made to us by the Timorese people in World War II. The petition will be available for you to sight, and sign if you wish, in the office. This term we are welcoming Mrs Harding to our classroom for the first three weeks – she will replace Miss Skehan while she is on leave. We are looking forward to Mrs Harding joining 5/6! Award Winners Congratulations to the following people who were presented with awards in the last week of term - K/1/2 - Tabitha Harris, Clancy Moore, Jamison Harris and Kyarne Sampson 3/4 – Peita Cassar and Cameron Ninness 5/6 – Georgia Cameron and Connor Constable Principal’s Award – Clancy Martin and Sophie Inder Spirit of St. Joseph’s – Elizabeth Hagley. Lizzie has demonstrated the spirit of St Joseph’s this term through her generous participation in the community Anzac March, the Festival of the Fleeces parade, the combined schools disco, the Catholic Schools Week Mass, the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music concert and school leaders day. Lizzie’s assistance with the seniors, teaching computer skills, was much appreciated by many in the community.

What a busy time it has been over the past few weeks, beautiful warm days, crops are growing well and we have had plenty of travellers through town (great for business). Cross Country Merriwa travelled over to Mudgee for the Mudgee Field Days, we had a successful couple of days displaying all Parkland Products including UTV and Quad bikes, Oleo Mac Chainsaws, Tanaka Brush cutters, Parklander, Murray and Grass Hopper mowers, Parklander Chippers/Mulchers plus many other items. Our Oleo Mac chainsaws were very popular, they are Italian made, are of good quality and very well priced. We now have a large display of stock on offer at show price specials for the next month so call in and see what specials we have for you. Our NRMA office is currently selling CareFlight products, more stock should be arriving soon. We have some lovely Teddy Bears ranging from $5 to $60, caps, can holders all well priced and going to a good cause. Last month we ran a raffle which drew a lot of interest. The lucky winner of the CareFlight Pilot Bear was Kay Yates from Cassilis, congratulations Kay I hope you have found a lovely place for the beautiful big bear in your home. We have another CareFlight Bear currently being raffled, this time it is a Doctor Bear so pop in and grab a ticket before August 31 for you chance to win. Don't forget Pikey’s fantastic offer of $30,000 for thirty years in business. Check out our cars in Merriwa and Muswellbrook, if you find what you like and make a deal with Dominic you’ll go in the draw to win $30.000 on Christmas Eve.

DR STOKESDR STOKES We have started our new diet programme. We have had a good number register. Anyone interested in starting needs to let us know now as we would like all to start together if possible.
We are very happy to be in our new surgery. As many of you know, Meredith Llewellyn has joined us as practice nurse. As time goes on we will be offering more formal antenatal care and will try to have a regular immunisation clinic. For the moment we will continue just to incorporate these into our normal surgery hours.
We have produced our first newsletter called the gold sheet. This is available at the surgery. These will be appearing regularly every two weeks and will have lots of useful information in them, for those of you who are keen to improve your health.

Relay for Life is an overnight, community event where teams of 10 to 15 people participate in a relay-style walk to raise funds for the cancer council. Both Ray and myself have a receipt book and will be only to happy to assist y o u i n g i v i n g a donation. Donations can also be left with any member of our team and they will pass it on, and we will send out a receipt. MERRIWA DISTRICT MERRIWA DISTRICT PROGRESS PROGRESS
ASSOCIATIONASSOCIATION There are quite a number of projects currently happening in the community and Council last week provided the Association with some updated information. The Development Application for the Fitzroy Hotel has been approved. This project is of particular interest to the community as The Fitzroy is an important part of Merriwa history as well as a significant landmark in the town. A number of heritage and other issues have needed to be resolved, but it is hoped that the redevelopment will progress steadily from this point. An order has been placed for the Contractor to carry out modification works at the squash court building to accommodate the new Community Gym. The D.A. for the Hostel Activity Room has been approved and will go to tender shortly. Congratulations
to the Hostel staff on recently receiving Accreditation for the next three years. The next stage of upgrade work on the Willowtree Road has commenced. All work to the School of Arts stage area is complete including new stage curtains, lighting etc and the transformation is fantastic. New tables and chairs have been ordered for the Driver Reviver service. An amount of $10,000 has been provided in Council’s 2009/2010 budget for Merriwa Main Street upgrade and a local strategy is to be developed in conjunction with the Progress Association. Although no funding is available for additional sealing of Flags Road in 2009/2010, the sealing of the section of Flags Road from the town boundary to the racecourse will be given a high priority in the Strategic Plan for future works. The Association continues to lobby for extensions of community transport services available to Merriwa including services that would provide a more convenient link with Countrylink trains from Muswellbrook. An item of interest to all ratepayers! Council is currently protesting a State Government decision to include UHSC in a Regional Regulated Area which includes Outer Sydney and North East Coast. This decision means UHSC will be subject to a new Waste and Environment Levy which would be payable to the State Government. This new levy could result in increases in Council rates of up to 25% over seven years without any benefit to local ratepayers. You can get more information on Council’s web site. The Association meets at Merriwa RSL on the 4th Wednesday of the month commencing at 6pm. The Association’s AGM will be held on Wednesday 23rd September. All members of the community are cordially invited to attend any meeting. The Progress Association continues to work in a variety of ways for the best possible outcomes for our community.

MERRIWA ROTARY MERRIWA ROTARY CLUBCLUB
The Merriwa Rotary Club hosted its 41st Annual Changeover Dinner for 2009-10 at the Merriwa Sports Club with near on 70 people in attendance. Two Merriwa residents, through their generous volunteering endeavours, were awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow. This is the pinnacle of Rotary awards and is only awarded to worthy recipients who make substantial contributions to their communities and beyond. Congratulations to Rotarian Neil Hunt and Mr Michael Nutt. Your efforts have been appreciated by the Merriwa community and have now been recognised through this Paul Harris Fellow award. At the Changeover two new members were inducted into the club – Mr Michael Wheatley and our very first lady member, Helen Whale. Congratulations to you both and may you have many enjoyable years with Merriwa Rotary. The new board for 2009-10 is President Ross Craven; Vice President Bill Reynolds; Secretary Neville Hook; Treasurer Neil Hunt and the Directors are Dermot Shannon, Robert Goodear, John Sparrow, Barry Ghersi and John Shipway. The new board have set their sights for the year to continue to support Merriwa’s current programs through our local youth with long-term exchange, short-term New Zealand Exchange, RYLA, RYPEN, and RYAG programs high on the list.
These programs help our youth to look beyond the horizons of Merriwa and further their education not only academically but through personal development. The club would also like membership to increase and now that the big step of our first lady member, maybe some more females to join Helen. As last year, we will continue to improve Rotary Park and also some improvement to Rotary Skate Park with some plans in the development stage for more playground equipment for our young people of Merriwa. Any community members are welcome to attend Rotary Meetings which are held at the Sports Club every Tuesday night, 7pm for a 7.30pm dinner. If you would like to attend and check out what Rotary is all about ring any Rotarian on Mondays to book in your attendance. We would welcome new faces and especially new hands to help at our functions. We’re an easy going bunch and fun nights are the norm. We feel that the work we do is beneficial to our youth and also the community. Rotary does great work with some of our finances sent to help with Rotary Projects in third world countries. Come join us. Be a part of the 1.2 million Rotarians world wide and contribute to your community. You will be very welcome.

TRINITY MARKETSTRINITY MARKETS Hello again from your favourite op shop, Trinity Markets, where you can Dress for Less!! For opening hours and contact phone number, see our advertisement in this issue. New Wheelie Bin Thanks to all the kind people who have already left donations in our new wheelie bin, parked out the back of Trinity Markets shop. It’s a better option than leaving them on the footpath, if we’re closed. The bin will protect your donation from the weather etc., until the shop opens again and we can display the items for sale. What can I give? Anything saleable that is of no further use to you. It may be just the go for someone else. Clean clothing, pottery, toys, teddy bears and rabbits and other soft toys, crockery, nick-nacks . . .it’s all very much appreciated. If you’re cleaning out a cupboard,
shifting house, changing lifestyle, or in some other situation where you have more things than space to accommodate them, think of Trinity Markets. We appreciate your donations and our customers do too. Window Displays Hope you’re enjoying our window displays, the latest one features shades of orange and yellow, nice warm colours to brighten your footpath journey on these cold winter days. We usually create a new one each week, and it’s lots of fun putting them together. At Trinity Markets, no matter what we need to fit in with the display there’s always something just right. The choice is endless. Raffle Tickets Our meat raffle isn’t drawn until Friday July 31st, so there’s still time to invest in a ticket or two. At 20 cents, they have to be the best value in town. First prize is $20 worth of the meat of your choice, at Max’s Country Cuts butchery. Winter Woollies Along with practically every op shop in Australia we are experiencing an upturn in business, in these difficult economic times. If you have any spare winter woollies, beanies, warm scarves, warm socks, coats or cardigans, or nightwear and it’s just sitting in the cupboard, spare a thought for those less fortunate. If you don’t want your donation to be sold locally, you can leave it in the Samaritans bin located in Bow Street, on the northern side of Holy Trinity church grounds and it will be packed and sent to Newcastle. Otherwise, drop it into the shop, or in the wheelie bin out the back.

RELAY FOR LIFE HAS COME TO MERRIWA
The Merriwa Relay for Life committee has been hard at work to make this year’s inaugural Relay event something to be remembered. Every five minutes another Australian is diagnosed with cancer and we are joining in the effort to find a cure and help give support to those journeying with cancer. Teams are forming all the way to Cassilis to enter this worthwhile fundraising opportunity. Money raised will help to further the Cancer Council’s vital research and education about this disease. Our theme is ‘Healthy Lifestyles’. Good food, fun and fitness will be our aim. Everybody in the community can get involved. MERRIWA PHARMACYMERRIWA PHARMACY Getting to the bottom of pain relief This month we’ve been reflecting on the exploits of three American astronauts 40 years ago; but it’s also interesting to consider what happened much closer to home nearly 240 years ago. Just like the moon watchers of 1969, Captain James Cook was looking skyward when not quite by accident, but certainly secondary to his main aim, he came across the east coast of Australia. In 1769 Captain Cook’s primary role was to observe the transit of Venus. His ‘discovery’ the following year of what he named New South Wales led to the visit and permanent settlement of Arthur Phillip’s First Fleet 18 years later. Philip sailed into Botany Bay just a few days before French navigator, the Comte de La Perouse. It’s debatable if the French had arrived before the British whether the Tour de France would include Australia; however, different timing of events in 1815 really would have meant our red, white and blue flag may have had a very different design. Apparently at a critical stage during the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon returned to his quarters to seek relief from the pain of his haemorrhoids. Whether relief was gained we don’t know, but we do know that for the ‘little general’ the battle was lost. No time is convenient to suffer with haemorrhoids; and how many emperors today are similarly discomforted is hard to say, but Napoleon had been all day in the saddle, and any horse rider would surely say that having haemorrhoids is not much fun. The reality is, of course, having haemorrhoids is no fun for anyone – it’s a very sensitive issue in more ways than one. Haemorrhoids are just like varicose (swollen) veins inside or around the anus. They are very common, with 80% of people estimated to have suffered with haemorrhoids at some time in their lives. Symptoms include pain and irritation – the pain is usually a dull ache, often worse when passing a bowel motion; and the irritation is usually a burning, itching sensation. Fortunately these symptoms can generally be treated effectively with medicines, diet and attention to hygiene. Rectal and anal discomfort can also be caused by conditions other than haemorrhoids. Therefore, if we are
unsure whether haemorrhoids are actually the cause of the discomfort, we should see our doctor in the first instance. Non-prescription topical preparations containing combinations of local anaesthetics, corticosteroids, astringents and healing agents are soothing and give at least temporary relief of symptoms – they should normally be used twice a day and after each bowel motion. However, long term relief may need some diet and lifestyle modification. Constipation or straining to pass a bowel motion are common causes of haemorrhoids, so judicious use of laxatives can be useful in addition to an increase in fibre and fluid intake. We should also recognise that medicines (often prescribed medicines) can be a cause of constipation. Your pharmacist can advise you if this is likely to be the case. With this in mind, paracetamol is the first choice ‘over the counter’ oral analgesic to relieve the pain of haemorrhoids. So-called compound pain relievers containing codeine should be avoided as they can also cause or aggravate constipation. Keeping the area around the anus clean will help reduce itch and irritation. As soap can itself cause irritation to the already sensitive area, non-soapy cleansers are a better option, as are the use of flushable moist towelettes instead of toilet paper. If you want to participate in the equestrian events at the next Olympics, perhaps cycle to the local shops, or even sit down for dinner without too much discomfort, check out the Haemorrhoids fact Card. It’s available from Merriwa Pharmacy. There are other relevant cards: Fibre and Bowel Health, Constipation and Pelvic Floor Exercises.

In my last article I drew some ire from electricity consumers by commenting that electricity in Australia is cheap, never the less I repeat: it is cheap, at least by world standards Everything is comparative, for instance in Europe it is about twice our price. In Australia it is sometimes supplied very cheaply, particularly to any industry which uses big chunks of it and even more so if there also happens to be competition between various Australian states as to where the factory is to be located, the aluminium industry being perhaps the most extreme example. Therefore the Europeans, who are happy to have us supply them with cheap aluminium, at the same time criticise us for producing it with environmentally unfriendly coal fired power stations, which you might think a trifle hypocritical. The fact is that much of Australia, and particularly the Hunter Valley, is blessed (or cursed!) by vast quantities of good easily accessible thermal coal alongside abundant water with big population centres close by, the ideal recipe for cheap power if the environmental damage is not factored in. Of course if it is then the cost of producing electricity is much greater, and the purpose of the proposed gradually increasing carbon emission taxes is to eventually factor in all that extra cost so it appears electricity prices will inevitably continue to rise for many years. There is the possibility of evolving technology to extract carbon dioxide from the smoke stacks of our coal fired power stations and sequester it underground, hoping it will stay there forever, thus enabling us to continue to generate power with coal. The Federal government must have some faith in the process because it has contributed about $100 million towards research, however even if achievable it will be an expensive process because it involves not only extracting the gas but piping it to a suitable place, perhaps far away, and pumping it underground. Some environmental gurus say research into sequestering is a waste of time and money because if the money were to go into (say) solar generation research the overall jobs created would be more than those lost if the whole industry were shut down, mines, power stations, the lot, something which some would like to see happen tomorrow. Well maybe, but I doubt it. We were told something similar when the saw mills around Coolah, Baradine and Pilliga were closed down, that tourism would generate more jobs than were lost. Again maybe, but I have not seen much evidence of it. In any case, our comparatively small population dictates that large scale tourism in Australia must depend on great numbers of overseas tourists, which in turn depends on air travel, and I have thought for some years that the
future of the aircraft industry as we know it today is doubtful. Once the present global financial crisis is over we are again likely to see rapidly escalating fuel prices, probably such that many tourists will go somewhere closer to home, not only because of the extra cost of going to Australia, the end of the world, but also the growing reputation of aircraft for causing quite extreme environmental damage. Corollary: Perhaps Qantas shares are not a good long term investment. The next on the list of possible means of power generation is atomic (fission) power, though the opposition to this is so fierce it sometimes reaches an almost religious zeal. Therefore this source of power may not be worth discussion since no amount of argument is likely to be even considered by these zealots which makes it unacceptable, even if only politically. This seems a pity as I have always felt that all issues should be considered in a sober objective fashion, including that much of the world’s energy is already being generated in this fashion, including France, where atomic power generates 70% of their requirements. Chernobyl is often held up as the awful example, but this is rather like refusing to buy a Ford Falcon because the Model T Ford was such a crude, unsafe car by 2009 standards; or perhaps by comparing the Falcon to such Communist motoring disasters as the Trabant, a vehicle which only went when it wanted to, which was not often. Chernobyl was a disaster, a nuclear Trabant right from its conception, ill designed, poorly constructed and badly managed. These factors, combined with the particularly gross mismanagement in the last few hours before the reactor’s failure, created the final catastrophe which was further exacerbated by the Russian attempt to conceal it, though it is difficult to understand how they could have hoped to do so with an easily detectable radio active cloud spreading over much of Europe. It is worth considering that carcinogenous particles emitted from coal fired power stations are considered to cause more cancers than are ever likely from atomic power stations, though of course it can be further argued that this is simply another reason to phase coal out in favour of other more benign forms of power generation. Another reason is that disposal of the radio active waste is still an unsolved problem, though as noted in the last article possible future fusion generators could use this waste while producing negligible waste of its own. In any case, if we ever get to the fusion generation stage, it seems likely that a small part of it will include a fission component and therefore may again be politically very difficult.

MERRIWA HARDWAREMERRIWA HARDWARE Welcome back to everyone. While some parents are sad that the kids have gone back to school, I'm sure there are some that are relieved! Anyway, it's back to business as usual. Unfortunately, I missed the last issue of the Ringer last term, so I couldn't fill in any more gaps for those of you that are interested in the continuing speculation of Merriwa Hardware. Just to refresh your memory, this is the story so far. Late in June we announced that Merriwa True Value Hardware was having a quick Closing Down Sale. This sale went ahead with lots of speculation about different things. Now while Merriwa True Value Hardware might be closing, Merriwa Hardware will continue. We will still carry a great range of stock to try to satisfy all of your hardware needs. The only thing that will change will be the signage, and at the time of writing, I'm still waiting for it to be done.
In the interim, we are having a bit of a cleanout, and have a plethora of clearance specials with savings from 15% and a couple of things with over 50% off! There is a heap of bargains to be found right throughout the store. Relay For Life is happening in September and we have entered a team to take part in this very worthwhile cause. Relay For Life is a fundraising event for The Cancer Council. We all know someone who has been affected either directly or indirectly by cancer, and the cancer Council do an enormous amount of work, not only in cancer research but also support for cancer sufferers and thier families. There are 7 teams at last count, here in Merriwa, so support any of these teams in any way you can, as all of the teams are trying to raise money for the same cause. All donations $2.00 and over are tax deductable. When you are in the hardware next time, feel free to drop your spare change into the tin sitting on the counter. Thank you to everyone who supported our street stall by either cooking or through purchasing cakes ect. That's it for this week. as usual, I'm out of time.

All money raised goes back into our community MPS which is bigger, brighter and better than ever before. It’s a great facility. With the proceeds and our existing funds, we will be purchasing some of the latest equipment which will benefit patient, staff and the doctors. Some of this equipment will stop the need of our community to drive long distances to get certain procedures done. With this equipment we can ‘stay-at-home’ and use our own Merriwa MPS technology. consistent over the three rounds and is a worthy winner. Congratulations Di. Ill health and family commitments took a toll on some of us with only three of the seven starter completing the three rounds, but some really good golf was played by everyone. Just to remind you of our terminology, Scratch score - Total number of hits to complete the round. Nett score - Your Scratch score minus your handicap Some Etiquette - you should keep still and quiet while someone is hitting their ball A rule - you are not allowed to carry more that 14 clubs in you bag. Good golfing girls!
