Pasture to PackerThe Erath Pasture to Packer program is designed to teach youth the economic and production facets of an agricultural project, while also teaching them valuable leadership skills.
This program is not designed to profit the child a great deal in a monetary sense. It is designed to give them a very valuable hands-on, learning experience---from interviews and bank visits, to daily care of their cattle, combined with the marketing side and industry knowledge of where and how our food is processed.
If you have any questions, please contact the Erath County Extension Office at 254-965-1460.

The 2017 Texas 4-H Food Show Theme is "FAMILY FAVORITES". “Family Favorites” can be any dish that families enjoy made in a more healthy way. The theme could also be used to teach the importance of family meal times. Some 4-H members might consider their family heritage and focus on a dish that represents this. Obviously, there are many ways to have fun and creative with this theme!
If you want to be a star in the kitchen, try the food & nutrition project!
You’ll learn kitchen and cooking safety, how to prepare nutritious meals and snacks, and meal ideas to reduce your risk of disease.
Learning experiences focus on nutrition, food purchasing, food preparation, food safety, and related careers.
Food & Nutrition ProjectFCS CORNERpage 9
Storyboard theme for 2017The 4-H Fashion Storyboard is an industry-inspired method of displaying original designs. The storyboard “tells the story” of the designer’s idea. The storyboard includes original illustrations, flats, and more to promote the design.
The theme for 2017 is Inspired by Music - Whether you're heading to a concert, going dancing with friends or just hanging out at home listening to your favorite tunes, let your style choices reflect your musical taste with designs inspired by melody, tune, harmony, composition and song. From the rapid lively tempo of country music banjos, the slow sad moan of the blues, or the edgy upbeat rhythm of hip hop, there is a melodic palette for everyone.
Categories. Each storyboard should beentered into one category. A 4-H member may enter only one storyboard.
• Wearable: Clothing that can be worn. Includes items such as pants, shorts, skirts, blouses, sweaters, coats, dresses, etc.
• Accessory: Includes items such as belts, purses, bags, hats, etc.
• Jewelry: Includes necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings.
• Non-Wearable: Includes items such as pillows, organizers, holiday items, stuffed animals, items for the home, etc.
• Pet Clothing: Includes items that can be worn by a pet or any other animal.
Do you like fashion and being creative? The 4-H Clothing and Textiles project is perfect for you.
In the 4-H Clothing and Textiles Project you can learn to sew, how to be a good consumer when purchasing clothes, and the art of designing clothes and accessories, and careers in the fashion industry.
Clothing & Textiles ProjectFCS CORNER page 10
Duds to Dazzle 2017During Duds to Dazzle, teams of 3 to 5 receive textiles and each team has 60 minutes to create a new product using items from the supply closet. The teams then present their item to a team of judges. You may also be tested on what you have learned about how the clothing & textile industry impacts the environment, specifically the waste stream.
“Trashion” Show 2017In the Trashion Show, intermediate and senior 4-H members use their design skills to create and exhibit a recycled/reused garment created from items that would otherwise be thrown in the trash. Teams of 3 to 5 members submit a video application in the spring (April 3, 2017 deadline) to be judged.
The top 10 entries go on to compete in the Trashion Show at State 4-H RoundUp. At State Roundup the teams go through an interview process with a panel of judges and model on the runway. Only Intermediate and senior 4-H members are eligible to compete in the Trashion Show. Juniors can compete at the county and district level.
FASHION SHOW – County contest dates will be mid-March and District contest date in mid-April.
County workshops will begin in January for the Clothing projects.
I don’t know of any major changes – should be much the same with Buying, Construction, Natural Fibers contest. Will keep you updated. -Donna
The Fashion Show is designed for 4-H members to showcase their skills in buying and construction. You will create a clothing or fashion item, turn in paperwork explaining your item, complete an interview with a panel of judges, and last but not least, model the outfit on the runway.
