ST. GREGORY THE GREAT

Imagine, fourteen hundred years after death, boasting a best-selling CD! Yet outside the Church and within, Gregorian chant is enjoying a renaissance. Still, the timeless sacred music that bears his name is but part of Gregory’s legacy. Renouncing civic service for monastic life, Gregory’s administrative and diplomatic skills prompted continual summons from the cloister. Papal ambassador and advisor, he was eventually elected pope himself, renowned as a wise steward of the church’s material possessions, generous benefactor of the poor, sponsor of missionaries, and promotor of monasticism. His liturgical enrichment of the Church endures not only in Gregorian chant, but in eloquent homilies still gracing the Liturgy of the Hours, the “Gregorian Canon” (Eucharistic Prayer I), and his spiritual classic, Pastoral Care, once presented to new bishops at ordination. Of countless impressive papal titles—Supreme Pontiff, Vicar of Christ, Successor of Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles—the title still so cherished that it heads official documents is the one Gregory coined to describe his papal ideal: Servant of the Servants of God. Together with being designated “the Great,” a fitting epitaph.

THE CROSS OF JESUS

The perception of a cross changed dramatically after Jesus’ crucifixion. Before that event, death on a cross was not only horrible, it was degrading. It was a penalty reserved only for the most wretched of criminals. The word “glory” would not have found its way into the same sentence containing the word “cross.” But all that changed with Jesus. Over time, believers began to venerate and honor the cross. They painted, sculpted, and carved images of it. Many lost their own lives for their association with it. Today our reverence for and relationship with the cross recalls little of the contempt originally associated with it. As it has been through the ages, it is our perception of the cross that determines how we follow Jesus.

PILGRIMAGE TO HOLY HILL, WI Thank you to all who joined us for our annual pilgrimage to the Holy Hill last Saturday, August 29. Even though this year's pilgrimage was different, it was still beatiful and blessed by God. Let us always ask the protection from our Blessed Mother.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

CROATIAN CONSULATE DAY AT ST. JEROME PARISH

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CCD Classes to start soon

Every Fall we traditionally start with CCD Classes for our little ones. We are planning to do the same this year amid the pandemic of Covid-19. First part of CCD Education, per Archdiocesan request, will be held through Zoom classrooms. We hope to start in-person education very soon. All the details will be communicated to the parents on a regular ba-sis. GENERALNI KONZULAT RH U CHICAGU

KONZULARNI DAN U NAŠOJ ŽUPI

U nedjelju, 13. rujna, od 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m., u našoj će župi bi organiziran Konzula-rni dan hrvatskog konzulata u Chicagu. Generalna konzulica RH u Chicagu gospođa Sanja Laković i osoblje konzulata bi će vam na ras-polaganju za sve konzularne poslove u gornjoj maloj dvorani poslije hrvatske svete mise. Hvala konzulici i njezinome osoblju što su ovo omogućili i poštjedjeli nas odlazaka u gužvu Downtona.

MLADIFEST NOVOSTI Mladifest - Susret Hrvatske Katoličke Mladeži Amerike i Kanade trebao se održati u našoj župi prvoga vikenda u lipnju, 5.-7. lipnja. Međutim, usred ove globalne pandemije, morali smo ga odgoditi. Ovo će tako biti prva godina od 2013. da Mladifest nije održan. Žao nam je da se to dogodilo, ali vjerujemo da će sljedeće godine biti jednako dobro, čak i bolje. Mladifest će tako biti održan prvoga vikenda u lipnju 2021. 4.-6. lipnja. Naša župa će biti domaćin ovoga lijepoga događaja. Sve vas koji ste se prijavili da biste pomogli organizaciju Mladifesta naši će mladi kontaktirati na vrijeme. Hvala vam od srca na svemu

što ste dosada učinili i što ćete još učiniti za mlade hrvatske katolike u Americi.

I ove jeseni, kao i obično, započinjemo sa vje-ronaučnom godinom u našoj župi. Nadbiskupija od svih župa traži da se započne na vrijeme, ali da na samome početku nastava bude online. PRIJENOS SVETIH MISA UŽIVO Sljedećih nekoliko tjedana ima ćemo stanku i nećemo prenosi svete mise uživo iz naše crkve. Mise se mogu pronaći na engleskome jeziku na EWTN televiziji, a na hrvatskome jeziku na Laudato TV ili na Facebook stgranici Radiopostaje Mir Medjugorje.
