WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 26/2015 26 August 2015

Kia ora,

Our kura is a-buzz with the excitement of fundraising for a life pod, a capsule to support babies in need. You may have

seen Ray Avery, the founder of Life Pods on TV. Ray will be at school on Tuesday 1st of September with the Seven Sharp

crew to chat about what Life Pods are and how we can help countries in need. We are raising funds for possibly the first life

Pod in NZ to be sent to Fiji. Please get behind us by supporting our Greatest Love mufti day this Friday and heart cookie bake

sale. Children can dress as something they love– now that should be interesting!

A huge thank you to Alex for her flexibility in changing our school disco to Thursday 3rd of September 5-6.30pm. This

date change is a reflection of making sure our school staff have a good work/home balance. As you know our staff work

massive hours to support our tamariki. My job as Principal is to ensure that they have whanau time. By holding our discos on a

Thursday, staff spend time with their loved ones and also ensures staff are on site during these events to support any tricky

situations. I know a number of whanau have put their name down to help, more assistance is required. Please be a supporter

which will lead to a fun event for all participants. Again I will reinforce the ‘come to dance’ rule, egg burgers who run around

will be spoken to by staff.

Winter sport is coming to a close. A huge thank you to Katie, Will and Tessa for your contribution to soccer, Sharon S,

Sharon P, Leann, Paula, Rosemary and Tara for netball. Our new sports are upon us, a huge thank you to Robbie for hockey and

Shar for mini ball. Tracey is also doing an amazing job training our gym students. Robbie has also facilitated the amazing CSI

computer programme after school for many. On behalf of the Board of Trustees I thank you all for this contribution.

The Winter Sports tournament was an awesome outing for our students. Congratulations to our netball teams for their

first placings. Well done to all other participants. Phil, Sharon P and Lynette were proud of your achievements and how you

represented our school with not only grit but manners and a sense of fair play.

Waihi certainly has talent! Congratulations to Evah Carey for her first placing and mega $1000 prize money for our

school. Congratulations to our past pupils Nyah and Josaye Frew for also winning their section. What a stunning outcome for

our talented tamariki.

GYMSPORT FESTIVAL Practices: Tuesdays 8.15am-8.50am. Tuesdays 12.40-1.25pm. Wednesdays 12.40-1.25pm. Competition date 31st August. Held at Waihi College Gym. Entries due by 17th August. Thanks to those already entered. Tracey has been training the team and will need help with transport on the day to get to and from Waihi College. A parent helper is also needed for on the day. Please let the office or Tracey know if you can help.

KAPAHAKA TUTOR Our School needs a new Kapahaka tutor. Our tutor needs to be fun, firm, fair and kind, have lots of enthusiasm, and the ability to lead our beautiful tamariki in waiata and dance. This is a paid position for 1.5 hrs a week. Time can be negotiated and will re-quire a police check. If this sounds like you we invite you to write a letter of interest outlining your skill set, experience and availabil-ity.
