A management plan is under development to ensure that the significant, multi-layered history of the Conrad Historic Site is preserved and that the site’s heritage values and historic resources will be available to visitors and residents.

The role of the Conrad Historic Site Steering Committee is to oversee the preparation of a heritage management plan for the site, which will be completed in January 2017.

Preliminary results of the public consultation thus far indicate a concern for the safety and well-being of the site and its heritage resources. The next public meetings regarding the historic site will take place in the fall.

With the opening of the Conrad campground, a priority for the Conrad Steering Committee is to ensure the protection of the fragile heritage values of the site.

People are encouraged to camp in the Conrad campground rather than in the historic site.

Campers will need to launch their boats in Carcross as neither the campground nor the historic site has a boat launch.

Any impacts from the adjacent campground on the historic site will be assessed during the campground’s first season.
