“Bats: Right. Throws:Right. Born: July 22, 1891Milwaukee, Wisconsin.Died: August 17, 1964Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His good nature and smileearned him the nickname“Happy” and his naturalability made him a starcenterelder and one of thebest hitters in the AmericanLeague. He still holds therecord for most doubleplays (15) by an outelderin a season. Felsch was

paid $5,000 to throw the[1919 World] series andhis almost comically ineptelding gave the rst cluesthat the games were not onthe level. After being thrownout of organized baseballhe spent 15 years knockingaround with various townteams around the country, including 1925 when heand Swede Risberg starredfor the Scobey, MontanaGiants getting $600 a monthplus expenses. This wasapparently a low periodin Felsh’s life and he andRisberg gained onerous

reputations as drunks whoshould not be crossed.Felsch retired from baseballin the early 1930s andoperated a bar in Milwaukeeuntil his death in 1964.”

profession I know anythingabout, and a lot of gamblershave gotten rich. The jokeseems to be on us.”  In the 1988 lm Eight
