Linear Park Update
Sections of Linear Park that will be re‐opened on Friday.
Council Officers and contractors have been working towards opening up sections of Linear Park as structural and safety inspections are completed and debris and trees removed. The following sections will open from Friday afternoon (28 October 2016).
Hamilton Reserve / Willowbend / Frome Reserve
From Council's boundary (Fife Street) directly up to Jeffery Street has been cleared. Council requests all users to refrain from entering Frome Reserve as the area is unsafe due to a number of compromised trees that require removal.
Gilbert Pool / Bickle Reserve
Gilbert pool through to Bickle Reserve has been cleared.
Please note that access to the Gilberton Swing Bridge remains strictly prohibited due to the structural integrity of the bridge being compromised during the storms.
All other areas remained closed to the public until further notice. There a number of trees that are compromised and require further investigation and / or removal. The structural integrity of bridges and footpaths within Linear Park are believed to have been compromised and remediation works will be required. Council has engaged a number of contractors and consultants to help Council Officers undertake this body of work.
Linear Park Snakes Alert
Warning: snakes have been seen in Linear Park
Council Officers whilst recently undertaking clean up works within Linear Park came across a large brown snake. With the onset of warmer weather, snakes are becoming more active. Please be careful when walking through the safe sections of Linear Park.
ERA Water Construction Program in Walkerville
The construction of facilities in Walkerville is about to commence
Waterproofing Eastern Adelaide is an important initiative being delivered by ERA Water, a subsidiary of the
Town of Walkerville (ToW), City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters (NPSP) and the City of Burnside (CoB).
These councils have been working together since 2009 in the planning and delivery of the project.
The Water Proofing Eastern Adelaide Project is supported through funding of $9,500,000 (GST exclusive) from the Australian Government’s National Urban Water and Desalination Plan and funding of $2,000,000 (GST exclusive) from the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board. The project involves the construction of an Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Scheme to harvest, treat, store and distribute recycled stormwater for the irrigation of parks, reserves and schools within the Eastern Region of Adelaide. The project will:
• Yield up to 494ML/a of treated stormwater • Construct approximately 42 km of distribution network across the eastern Adelaide region to
service
irrigation demand replacing potable water • Improve water security for eastern Adelaide • Generate a net benefit to water quality in the River Torrens by reducing pollutant loads discharged
into the river
ERA Water has appointed a contractor to construct storage tanks and a pump station on Scales Reserve in Walkerville (refer to attached map). Works will commence in mid October 2016 and finish in May 2017.
The infrastructure at Scales Reserve will play a crucial role in enabling water to be pumped around the
pipeline network for the irrigation of parks, reserves and schools within the area.
Construction sites will be fenced off for safety and noise levels and work hours will be in accordance with the EPA legislation and guidelines. Signage will be present at each of the sites with contact numbers for the project info line for the duration of the works.
Local traffic management arrangements will be in place throughout the works to ensure a safe work site.
Our Site Supervisor will coordinate access, which will be off the cul‐de‐sac on Fuller Street.
If you have any questions regarding the pipeline installation works, please do not hesitate to contact the project team on 1300 309 660.
For more information or to register for project updates, visit the project website at www.era.sa.gov.au
The Pipe Construction
Pipe construction for the project will be using horizontal directional boring techniques. Before works commence, nearby residents will be notified (in writing) and advised on the commencement date and the format for storage of the pipe.
Pump Station and Distribution Tank Construction
Pump station tanks and distribution systems will be constructed in an isolated parcel of Scales Reserve, south of the busway. This will allow for Aquifer Recharge and distribution of non‐potable water to an existing bore in Scales reserve.
Nearby residents have been advised of the work.
Pipe storage, prior to heat welding and installation is intended to be undertaken in Scales Reserve, minimising any disruption to nearby residents. Extensive insulation of the pump station will occur to ensure pump noise is inaudible.
