Double-page spread analysis, page 4.

There are two images printed on one of the pages of the double-page spread, both of them being images of the main artist featured in the music magazine. The artist creates the page position from both mid-shots with the motivations in narrative. Again, Dizzee Rascal holds seriousness and a sense of attitude as a part of connotative meanings which have been displayed in the front cover image and also other images from the double-page spread. The house style of the music magazine ‘Mixmag’ could relate to the artist and his personality trait; the magazine is based on current affairs in the music industry especially hip-hop.

These images have been edited by Photoshop in order to bring out the contrast of the bright colours such as the green t-shirt and blue sky. Dizzee Rascal is purposely positioned next to the slogan ‘truman’ as it influences the audience’s perception of the artist and his characteristics. The type of language used could also relate to the target audience as it’s slang. The double-page spread is mainly image-led which a younger audience may prefer over text-led, the colours on the images may be more attractive. This image encapsulates the attitude and representational codes of the artist; he is heavily stylised to appeal to the VALs of the target audience.

VALs (values, aspiration, lifestyle) of the target readership encourage the audience to follow the artist’s footsteps. Readers value Dizzee Rascal as a well-known grime/ hip-hop artist which they base their opinion on. Readers who are fans of Dizzee Rascal aspire to be like the artist; taking in what his interests are and choosing to do similar activities. Readers are extremely attracted to read current affairs, also the lifestyle of the artist. Personally I think readers are encouraged to find out about the artist’s lifestyle and they like to compare it to their own. If Dizzee Rascal were to bring out his own clothes line, readers and fans would be obliged to purchase the items as the VALs appeal to them.
