InstallationGuideTheAtlatlisdesignedtobeinstalledinyourflightcontrollerstack.ItcanbeinstalledaboveorbelowyourFCusingthesametypeofM3nylonstandoffsthatareusedtomounttheFCitself.WiringuptheAtlatlisnotcomplicated.

1. InserttheJST-GHconnectorintothereceptacleontheAtlatl.2. SoldertheredwiretothevoltagesourcefortheAtlatl.TheAtlatlcanrunoffofbatteryvoltage

directly(7to42volts,2Sto6S).ThereisnoneedtoruntheAtlatloffofavoltageregulator.3. Soldertheblackwiretoagroundpad.VideonoisewillbeminimizedifyousolderyourAtlatl

groundwireandyourFPVcamera’sgroundwiretothesamepad.Twistthemtogetherandtinthembeforesolderingthembothtothesamepad.

4. ConnecttheAtlatl’syellowwiretothevideosignalwireofyourFPVcamera.Thecamera’svideowirewillusuallybeyellowaswell.Youcandirectlysolderthetwowirestogether,oryoumighthaveaPDBorFCwitha“VideoIn”and“VideoOut”pad.Inthatcase,solderthecamera’svideowireto“VideoIn”andtheAtlatl’svideowireto“VideoOut”.

5. TheAtlatlcanberemote-controlledusingtheImmersionRCTrampTelemetryprotocol.ThisistheintendeduseoftheAtlatl.Tousethisfeature,soldertheAtlatl’sbluewiretotheTXpadoftheUARTonyourflightcontrollerthatwillbeusedforthisfeature.

6. InBetaflightorCleanflight,gotothePortstab.EnableIRCTrampprotocolontheUARTthatyouareusingtoremote-controltheAtlatl(theUARTwhoseTXpadyousolderedthebluewireto).

UsingTheOSDIfyouareusingaBetaflightFlightControllerwithBetaflightOSD,youcanmanagetheAtlatl’stransmitpowerandchannelfromwithintheOSD.

ThegraphicsaboveshowthestickcommandtobringuptheOSDmenu.Thestickcommandis:throttlecentered,yawleft,pitchforward.Theexactstickcommandthereforedependsonwhichmodeyourtransmittersticksarein.

IntheOSDmenu,usepitchup/downtomovethecursorbetweenmenuitems.Whenamenuoptionhasa>symboltotherightofit,thisindicatesthatitcontainsasub-menu.Roll-rightwillenterthesub-menu.Forexample,inthescreentotheright,movingthecursorto“Features”andthenmovingtherollsticktotherightwillenterthe“Features”sub-menu.

TomanagetheAtlatl,enterthe“Features”menutoconfigurethevTX.Fromthere,enter“VTXTR”

ThescreentotherightshowsthecurrentvTXsettings.Fromhere,youcanchangethefrequencyband,channel,andpowerlevelofthevideotransmitter.Aftermakingthechanges,movethecursorto“Set”andpressroll-righttoconfirmthesettings.

FunctionsChannel-ChangeButtonTheAtlatlisintendedtobeconfiguredviaTelemetry.Ifyoucan’tuseTelemetryforsomereason,youcanchangechannelsusingthebuttonontheAtlatl.Holdthebuttondownfor2secondstoswitchfromTelemetrytoButtonmode.Thenpressthebuttononetimetochangetothenextchannel.Thereisnoseparate“band”and“channel”function.TheAtlatlwillsimplystepthroughall40channelsthatitsupports.

ThebuttonisintendedonlyasafallbackoptionforwhenTelemetryisnotavailable.ItwouldbeverytedioustousethebuttonastheprimarymeansofconfiguringtheAtlatl.

PitModeHaveyoueverpoweredupyourcopter,onlytohaveoneofyourfriendsstartshoutingandcrash?Yourvideotransmitterwasonthesamechannelhewason,orevenanearbychannel,andyoursignalwassoloudthatitoverpoweredhisown.Thisiscommonlyreferredtoasbeing“stompedon”,andit’sabigproblemanytimemorethanonepersonisflyingtogether.Evenifyouarenotonthesamechannelassomebodyelse,youcanstomponthemifyouaretooclosetothem

PitModehelpstopreventyoufromstompingonotherpilots.WhenthetransmitterisinPitMode,itwillonlytransmitataverylowpower.Withinashortdistance,youwillbeabletoseeyourowncopter’stransmission,butotherpilotswhoarefurtheraway,won’tbeaffected.

YoucanputtheAtlatlintoPitModeintwoways.First,youcanusetheBetaflightOSD.InthevTXcontrolsectionoftheOSD(showninthepreviouspages),thereisanoption,“Pit”,whichcanbeonoroff.ManuallychangethisoptiontoputtheAtlatlinto,andtakeitoutof,pitmode.

YoucanalsoholddowntheAtlatl’sbuttonwhileyoupluginyourbattery.ThiswillcausetheAtlatltopowerupinPitMode.Ifyou’reflyingwithfriends,it’sagoodideatomakeahabitofthis,toensurethatyoudon’tstomponanyofthemwhenyoupowerup.JustbesuretoremembertotaketheAtlatloutofPitModebeforeyoufly,oryouwilllosesignalprettymuchassoonasyouflyaway.

IfyoupoweruptheAtlatlinPitMode,youcantakeitoutofPitModeeitherbypowercyclingtheboard(un-plugandpluginyourbattery)orviatheOSD.

TheAtlatl’sPitModeoperatesat0.5mWtransmitpower.Thisislowenoughtoreducethechanceofinterferingwithanotherpilot,butit’sstillhighenoughthatpilotswhoarenearbycouldbeaffected.Alwaysfollowbestpracticesforfrequencyassignmentwhenflyingwithotherpilots.Neverpowerupnearotherpilots,evenifyouthinkthechannelisclear.Neverlandyourcopterneartootherpilotseither.Alwayspowerup,takeoff,andland,atleast20-30feetawayfrompilotswhoareflying.

StatusLEDTheLEDontheAtlatlshowsitsstatus.Possibleconditionsare:

• SolidLED,notblinking–TheAtlatlisbeingcontrolledbythebutton,NOTbyTelemetry.Youcanswitchchannelsbypressingthebuttononetimetoadvancetothenextchannel.HoldthebuttondownfortwosecondstoswitchbacktoTelemetrycontrolofthevTX.

• Blinksslowly,aboutoncepersecond–TheAtlatlisinTelemetrycontrolmodeandthetelemetrycommunicationwiththeFCisworking.

• Blinksslowly,aboutonceperthreeseconds–TheAtlatlisinTelemetrycontrolmode,buttelemetrycommunicationwiththeFCisnotworking.Possiblecausesinclude:wireisnotconnected,wireisconnectedtothewrongpinorpadontheFC,FCisnotconfiguredcorrectly.

• Blinksrapidly,about4timespersecond–TheAtlatlisinPitMode.Makesureyoudon’ttakeoffandflyawayinthismode,becauseyourrangewillbeveryshort!

WarningBe careful when you are plugging/unplugging the SMA extension cable.
