ATLANTIC SUNRISE PROJECT UPDATE /// SUMMER 2015 STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM PROVIDES $2.5 MILLION TO SUPPORT CONSERVATION PROJECTS Projects that will restore wildlife habitat along streams, prevent harmful nutrients from entering waterways and add new nature trails were among the 17 local conservation projects that will receive more than $2.5 million in funding through the Atlantic Sunrise Environmental Stewardship Program. The Conservation Fund, a national nonprofit dedicated to finding conservation solutions that balance environmental and economic needs, partnered with Williams to identify the resources most in need of enhancement and/or protection in the project area. As a result, 48 proposals were received from eight counties for aquatic restoration, nutrient reduction and trail projects. The Atlantic Sunrise Environmental Stewardship Program is a voluntary program designed to benefit the resources and support communities within the Atlantic Sunrise project area. It is not designed to replace traditional compensatory mitigation requirements of state and federal permitting agencies. “This Environmental Stewardship Program is an exemplary model that recognizes the importance of working in a collaborative way to go above and beyond legally required mitigation to advance high value community projects.” – Kris Hoellen, Vice President of Sustainable Programs for The Conservation Fund. 5 REASONS TO SUPPORT PIPELINE INFRASTRUCTURE

If you’re like most Americans, you probably

don’t spend much time thinking about where

your energy comes from. The reality is, under-

ground pipeline infrastructure is required to

feed our nation’s growing appetite for reliable,

affordable energy.

The Atlantic Sunrise pipeline project will

connect abundant, cost-effective natural gas

supplies in Pennsylvania with markets all along

the East Coast, benefitting millions of Ameri-

can consumers.

Energy IndependenceThe production gushing from America’s shale oil and gas deposits—

especially the Marcellus Shale—will create true energy independence,

but that can’t happen without much needed pipeline capacity.

Environmental BenefitsNatural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel and is helping to lower U.S.

greenhouse gas emissions. As additional pipeline infrastructure increases

access to cost-effective gas supplies, a growing number of industries – such

as electric power plants – are converting to natural gas and contributing

toward the improved air quality.

Supports PA JobsGas development has pumped tens of billions of dollars into the

Keystone State’s economy, supporting more than 300,000 jobs and

saving state and local governments $19 billion in 2012-2013.

Local Economic BenefitsAccording to a study by Pennsylvania State University, the Atlantic

Sunrise project could pump approximately $1.6 billion into state and local

economies, support up to 8,000 jobs during the one-year construction

period, and generate $1.9 million in annual economic impact.

Access to Lower-Cost EnergyNatural gas originating in Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale typically trades

at half the cost of natural gas sourced from other North American

supply basins, but without adequate pipeline infrastructure consumers

won’t realize the full economic advantages.
