In Memory of King Stinchcombe

July 9th, 1936 – September 29th, 2018

Last fall our community bade farewell to a gentle giant of a man

who has been a part of this community for more than eighty

years. King Stinchcombe was born and raised in Long Lake and

farmed the original homestead his entire life plus the new family

farm on Long Lake, purchased in 1970.

He saw many changes come to farming life – some through

improved technologies and some through age. For four years

King served as the President of the Parham Agricultural Society

He steered the committee through the beginning of the 1970’s.

He and his family have always been key supporters of the fair

and of local farms.

We wish his wife Carol and his children Hope and Stanley

many good memories.

1955 Cattle Show at the Fair. King was always the tallest!

Carol and King are featured in the Fair Mural on Hope’s Place –

Parham General Store. Carol is the one shooting the squirt gun

at King! This is how she managed to catch his eye!

King and Carol raised Stanley and Hope

on their farm on Long Lake. The kids

were involved with 4H Clubs. Just ask

Hope about her favourite rooster! He

used to chase her from the barn to their

house! (Left -Stanley Stinchcombe)

We now all know Hope as the owner

of the Parham General Store. She

has continued her family’s

involvement with the community

and especially in supporting the fair.

(Left- Hope Stinchcombe)

It was a perfect match

when Carol married King.

They were best friends

and partners in crime for

the rest of their lives.

With each other’s

support they continued

to farm while they raised

their family and long into

King’s elderly years.

King loved to look

after his cattle. Well

into his seventies he

would do a daily

inspection of the farm

property. Sometimes in his

later years this involved Carol

and a pair of binoculars.

These two kept their sense of

humour through it all.

We salute you – Parham’s

one and only “King”!

people who meet monthly throughout the year to plan the

summer fair. Some of us have farming backgrounds, some of

us don’t. We bring many different skills to the group. We could

use someone just like you! We are always looking for

supporters and volunteers. Whether you can spare an hour, a

day, or a week of your time we would love to have you on the

team. Perhaps you are a high school student with 40 hours of

volunteer time to fill. Please get in touch with our volunteer

coordinator, Wendy Parliament, at [email protected] .

If you have money, but not the time, and would like to sponsor

an event, class, or entertainment we’d be happy to share your

generosity with the community. Contact our head of
