FLIEPAPER is a wallcovering collection by celeb-rity photographer Don Flood in partnership with Astek Wallcovering. Graphic and sophisticated, each Fliepaper design is a textural symphony of color and design with an emphasis on scale. GRONKGRONK is an internationally renowned

painter, mural artist, opera set designer, printmaker and performance artist, living in

Los Angeles, CA. His work is deeply influ-enced by Surrealism, German expression-

ism, music, European film and literature. The patterns of the Gronk Collection have been

created from the artist’s original artwork, faithfully reproducing the energetic quality of his paintings into large-scale wallpaper

The recently re-branded Linq Hotel & Casino features custom digitally printed wallcover-ing murals in all 2,300 of its refreshed guest-rooms. With 3 different designs rotating throughout the hotel, all of the murals were sized to fit each room type and are the focal point of the room. Design work by Elkus-Manfredi Architects, Boston, MA.

The Guestrooms of the Gilded Hotel in New-port, Rhode Island feature accent walls of our multicolored Venetian Marbled wallpaper printed on Type II vinyl. Designed by Rachel Reider Interiors the Hotel design is a modern, irreverent take on the decadent style of the Gilded Age.

Each of the 189 rooms at the Villa Florence Hotel in San Francisco feature dramatic head-boards with Peony flower designs inspired by Florentine flower markets. Inspired by the Hollywood land-scape, this mural was hand drawn and digitally composed. The design uses bold color choices of white, grey and red accents. The Lobby mural coordinates with the hallway mural which is the same illustra-tion with an inverted color scheme. Whimsical elements are lightly scattered throughout to compliment piece. Astek’s design team worked hand in hand with Yamashiro of Hollywood to create a custom, hand painted cherry blossom mural for their entry way. The trees and blossoms were hand painted, scanned and digi-tally printed at Astek onto a series of wood panels to make the space come to life.

Astek’s in house designers hand illustrated these designs printed on clear adhesive film, which was ap-plied to pre-existing acrylic panels for the Hacienda Heights commu-nity Center. Collaborating with EDG Design and graphic designer Nao Etsuki Lee, this ceiling mural application was printed

on our Silver Mylar substrate to produce a subtle yet elegant

iridescent wallcovering highlighted by a soft lighting.

With only a low resolution vintage map of the Boston area to work with, Astek’s design team developed this artwork into a beautiful ceiling mural in the lobby of the Boston Boxer Hotel. Hotel design by JBrice Design in Boston, MA.

By name alone, “wallcovering” suggests that the conversation should end at the walls. This is just a technicality and quite a few creative designers have utilized our wallcov-erings services to go above and beyond the walls. The Boston BoxerThe Hilfiger ResidenceAstek worked with interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard to supply the reflective wallcoverings for Tommy Hilfiger’s Miami home. The master bedroom features a ceiling done in our silver foil wallcovering WK217. The walls coordinate with the ceiling using our silver metallic geometric print VC0641 with a portrait series of Marilyn Monroe on one wall. This was featured in Architectural Digest’s September 2014 issue.

15 INTERIOR ARCHITECTS | THE UNIQUE SPACE

Astek printed this stairwell mural for the Downtown Los Angeles offices of Interior Architects that spans two floors and even into the elevator! The design represents the twisted and serpentine freeway system that defines the Los Angeles architectural land-scape. The bold duotone approach creates an abstract design that is both compelling and meaningful. Graphic Design work by Christie Bruno.

The Unique Space, a co-work space in the downtown LA Arts District that boasts a style that is the epitome of LA modern design. The facilities reside in a historical building that has been renovated into a clean and modern facility with accents of our custom printed wallcovering through-out. Inspired by LA’s desert roots, a mural of the Joshua Tree landscape wraps the main elevator and doors. In contrast, simple, reflective geometrics create a playful yet sophisticated and modern aesthetic.

Meet The Designer

Zaret Proa grew up in Los Angeles California. Her family and cultural background influenced her early artwork and guided her early studies in Graphic Design and Analog Photography. Zaret studied Fine Arts at the University of California, Santa Cruz where she discovered her passion for printmaking, especially lithography. Her studies eventually led her to pursue studies in textile design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Zaret worked in the fashion industry as a textile designer before becoming a surface designer at Astek Inc’s Design Studio. While at Astek, Zaret has used her knowledge of textile design and printmaking and married them with 21st century surface digital design techniques. Zaret combines the seemingly opposite styles of photographic and painterly to innovate new and striking patterns. She finds inspiration in the urban and natural landscapes of Los Angeles and she strives to bring these two spaces together in her work.

Astek’s design studio created this custom bookcase wallpaper for the W Hotel in Wash-ington D.C. for their studio pre-function room. The design is inspired by Washington’s judiciary system with numerous volumes of famous legal cases interspersed with contemporary design and pop culture books. Printed on our silver mylar material, this design gets added flare due to the lustrous, metallic finish. Design direction by Starwood Hotels.
