MARLBORO - One by one parents unloaded, tellingstories of their stressed-out, overworked and wornout children.

There was the 7-year-old who spent 40 minutes ofclass time learning about managing anxiety. Thefourth-grader who comes home with nearly two hoursof homework a day, often on topics she hasnt yet re-viewed in class. And the middle schooler who suffersfrom headaches because of all the testing in her class-room.

About 150 parents packed Frank J. Dugan Elemen-tary for Tuesdays school board meeting, many ex-pressing concern that the district was over-testing itsstudents. They urged the administration to scale itback.

When did Marlboro forget that school is about

learning? asked Jill Schmid, a parent in the district.I can assure you right now that the Marlboro schoolsystem is failing its students.

An Asbury Park police officer was justified inshooting and wounding a suspect in a gun battle in No-vember that also injured an 8-year-old girl in her near-by home, the Monmouth County Prosecutors officesaid Wednesday.

The matter wasnt presented to a grand jury and nocriminal charges were filed against the officer, ac-cording to a statement attributed to acting MonmouthCounty Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni. Theofficer wasnt named in the statement, but previouslywas identified as Patrolman Terrence McGhee, whowas uninjured in the exchange.

Based on the results of the investigation, this Of-fice determined that Officer #1s use of deadly forcewas clearly necessary to protect him from imminentdeath or serious bodily injury, the statement said.

The Monmouth County Prosecutors Office stillisawaiting test results to determine whose bullet stuck
