Musings

Dear Friends,

S ummer is moving along quickly and Vacation Bible School is just around the

corner. This is a great opportunity for children to focus on what it means to

believe in God and learn about God’s love and grace for them. Many of us grew up in a church

where Vacation Bible School or just Bible School, as it used to be called, happened every summer.

In my days of growing up, we had our Bible School during the day from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. In

those days many mothers didn’t work outside the home, and finding teachers as well as children

being available was not an issue. Today, in many cases with both parents having jobs outside the

home, and so many summer activities, having our VBS at night has worked well for us. As you

know, ours begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m., July 22-26, which will be here before you

know it.

This year, as is the general rule, we need teachers and workers. Necia Jannings, our Director of

Christian Education, is working hard to have enough teachers for the various age groups. If you

would be willing to teach or work in some way in Vacation Bible School, please call the church

office at 457-2416. Also, if your children have friends, or if there are children in your neighbor-

hood who might benefit from VBS, try and encourage them to attend. As I said earlier, this sum-

mer activity is a great way to start someone on a faith journey that will be a part of their life from

now on.

Now for an update on our “Envisioning Our Future” capital campaign. At the beginning of June,

we have $400,656.07 on hand in our Building Fund Account, which is a great start on paying for

the remodeling. We also have three-year financial commitments from the congregation of

$1,024,442, which gives us a total of $1,425,098.07. The Building Committee and Board of

Trustees have met, bids have been looked at, and a decision will be made on the construction as

soon as financing is arranged for the project. If all goes as is planned, construction could very well

begin sometime in August. We will just have to wait and see. At any rate, things are moving

along and construction will begin soon, which means adjusting to the inconvenience while con-

struction is going on. But I know we can handle it.

I hope this information brings you up-to-date on some things in the near future.
