From the Manager

A pril has been a real challenge to maintain and keep up

with course maintenance. We have had 5.9’ of rain

during April and just about the time we start to dry

out, we seem to get another storm roll through and soak us

again.

This weather has put the grounds crew in a “mow when it’s

dry enough” mode.

Let’s hope May gets back to normal weather patterns be-

cause, frankly, I’ve had enough!

Remember, May 28 will be the day of greens deep tine aeri-

fication, and the course will be closed the entire day to com-

plete this task.

See you on the course,

Your superintendent,

I hope this newsletter reaches you in good health and spir-

its. This spring has been terrible, in April, we had below

normal temperatures and lots of rain. Hopefully May will

be much better golf weather. It is always a struggle this time

of year to keep up with regular mowing with all the rain we

have had this spring. The upside to all this is the weather can

only get better!

Please remember now that opening day has taken place the

dress code is in effect for members and guests. Please remind

your guests of the dress code before they arrive at the club.

Denim is allowed in the clubhouse; however, denim is not

permitted on the practice areas or on the golf course. Jim al-

ways has a wide variety of the newest golf apparel available

in the golf shop.

As we continue to get further into the golf season there are

plenty of fun events to get involved in. A few upcoming

events: member guest day, demo day, golf clinics, and don’t’

miss the tequila tasting. Please check the events page on the

website and look for emails for upcoming events and clinics.

Remember to get out of the office for lunch and come to your

club to eat and practice, what a great way to take a break from

your busy day. Chef Cliff always has a delicious lunch await-

ing you and the driving range is open Tuesday through Sun-

day.

Welcome to all the new members and a big thanks to their

sponsors! Please remember to pass along our membership info

to any potential members. If you have a potential member,

please let me know and I will be happy to contact them. I am

looking forward to a great May at Twin Lakes. I wish all the

mothers a happy and healthy Mother’s Day!

From the Pro

Your #1 goal for your next round of golf? No matter what level of golf you are playing, being able to avoid

a double bogey is one of the main factors to your success.

Most players are under the assumption that birdies and pars are going to be the path to golf improvement. It

makes sense because these are "fun" scores. The truth is that damage control is a more important skill for many

players, and avoiding a double bogey or worse is going to help them break 80, 90, or 100.

Golf is a game of mistakes, and you have to take care of those mistakes in order to be successful. Things are go-

ing to go wrong at some point in your round. This is when grit and resiliency come in. If you are truly committed

to getting rid of the dreaded double bogey, then when things are going wrong you need to do your best to slow your

mind down, and try to avoid compounding your mistakes.

"Give yourself permission to hit bad shots."

So if you hit a drive into the trees, chunk an iron, or mangle a pitch shot around the green, you need to do your best

to accept this mistake. The key is how you react and then ultimately recover from your mistakes.

I believe you can achieve that goal by:

• Controlling your emotions on the course, and becoming grittier and more resilient

• Making smarter decisions with the kinds of shots you play

• Committing to becoming more efficient with a wedge or putter in your hand.

So... The next time you tee it up make it your #1 goal and priority to play 18 holes without a double bogey.

Course closed; aerification of greens

Men’s Opening Day saw a chilly start, but at least it

was sunny! After Bloody Marys and breakfast burri-

tos, the men were able to practice on the range after-

having to stay closed from all the rain. Afterward,

they gathered on the patio to see the results.

Once again, the women of Twin Lakes had a less than perfect weather-wise day for their Opening

Day golf. Prior to golf, a delicious breakfast was prepared by Cliff, and Jim discussed how cer-

tain things would be done with tournaments. Judy Ries discussed some other points for the

group. Despite the cool and sometimes-drizzly day, several women braved the elements and

played 9 holes while a few others went ahead and played 18. Don’t worry, ladies; there will be

plenty of good days ahead!
