Phoenix Toastmaster Grace Liu won 1st place at Club and Area Evaluation Con- tests and will compete at Division contest on September 26th. As president of the Phoenix Toastmas- ters for 2015-16, I would like to praise our wonderful club members and to welcome new guests. Here at Phoenix Toastmasters, we support each other in developing public speaking skills and finding our unique messages. We know we are successful because many of our current and former members have re- ceived professional promotions soon after joining our club. In August 2015, at the 2015 Toastmas- ters International Convention held in Las Vegas, NV, many speakers empha- sized that public speaking is a way for each of us to tell the message of us.Public speaking is not a performance, but a way to authentically share our story, our motivations, and our vision to the world. Finding our message is not easy, and not obvious. It requires self- awareness, self-examination, and a de- sire to serve something greater than ourselves. Grace I. Lance Miller’s Speaking Tips:

The one rule of public speaking:

Did your speech communicate?

Communication is not what you said, it is what the audience thinks you said.

The only solution to stage fright is speaking

Public speaking deals with Attention: The speakers attention should be on the audience The audience’s attention should be on the speaker

Public speaking is not acting.. You are talking to someone.
