Henry Moore 1898-1986 was at the forefront of British Modernist sculpture. His work focused almost entirely on the human female figure, standing, seated or reclining, with a child or as a family group. Influences on his work include the landscape, largely that of his native Yorkshire, his close observation of classical sculpture, and his own profound humanity. His sculpture, drawings and prints were shown and collected internationally throughout his lifetime and today exhibitions of his work are continually presented and celebrated globally. In 1977 Moore established the Henry Moore Foundation in the grounds of his home in Perry Green, Hertfordshire. The Foundation aims to advance understanding of the work of Henry Moore, in tandem with the wider aims of education and promotion of the fine arts.

This exhibition has benefitted from the close collaboration of the Foundation’s curatorial and archival staff.

ARTHenry Moore:

Draped Seated Woman 1957-58

Indomitable Spirit

This documentary exhibition marks the return of Henry Moore’s Draped Seated Woman 1957-58 to the East End of London. Purchased by the London County Council in 1961 for its new Stifford Estate in Stepney, the monumental bronze sculpture, one of an edition of 6, soon became known locally as Old Flo. In 1997, when the towers on the estate were being demolished, Draped Seated Woman was removed to Yorkshire Sculpture Park for safe keeping, a loan that lasted until 2017. Old Flo finally came back to Tower Hamlets last year and can be seen in Cabot Square until 2022

The exhibition not only traces Old Flo’s story, travels and impact on local opinion and politics, but also explores Moore’s working method, influences and the other bronze casts in his edition of Draped Seated Woman, which are located in collections around the world. The exhibition is part of the wide programme of celebration, education and community events taking place while Old Flo is at Canary Wharf. If you would like to receive updates and become a ‘Friend of Old Flo’ please contact [email protected] or 020 7418 2346.

ARTImages that Defined the Age

AOP50 is a major retrospective exhibition comprising of iconic images by the world’s most well-known and respected photographers that celebrates 50 years of the Association of Photographers.

Established in 1968 by a group of leading advertising and fashion photographers, the AOP has grown to become one of the UK's leading and most respected membership organisations for professional photographers working in the commercial sector.

To recognise this important milestone, this exhibition, curated by Zelda Cheatle, presents a collection of images that define 50 years of the AOP, selected to illustrate the impact, diversity and quality of work by its members since 1968, who have included David Bailey, Lord Snowdon, Tessa Traeger, Patrick Lichfield, Clare Park and Nadav Kander. Their work will have been seen by the public the world over, from iconic images of celebrities and stars like Twiggy, in major advertising campaigns and countless car manufacturers, as well as documenting some of the world’s turning points, including wars, famine and humanitarian disasters. Many of their images have defined a generation, and helped to shape public opinion and create change.

Jacqueline’s ideas emerge through drawings, photographs, sculpture and the observation of life and its beauty. She delights in sketching the most detailed fragments and then exploring the shapes through forming metal and sculpting. This process is effervescent and helps her create jewellery with a refreshing and striking new form. Her Beak Collection was an exploration into bird’s beaks and is comprised of Herons, Woodpeckers and Knobbed Hornbills, all uniquely hand-sculpted pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and timeless. jacquiquinn.com
