Fall Season

THE NEW SEASON BEGINS at Barrington’s White House! Enjoy nationally recognized performers and speakers in the intimacy of our ballroom—the perfect setting for an up-close and personal

experience. Most events feature a Q&A, as well as a meet-and-greet recep-tion with the speakers, artists, or performers.

Third Thursdays Join us each 3rd Thursday this fall as we feature a local artist exhibition with works for sale and complimentary appetizers by On Occasion Catering and a cash bar. It’s a great “Art Night Out” with friends. Admission is free, though reservations are requested.

Thomas Balsamo Displays 40 Years of Portraiture and Filmmaking

Join us for our first 3rd Thursday of the fall season! On September 20

from 6–8 p.m., Balsamo will showcase four decades of his photographic

and video pieces, many in support of important causes. You can also view

his work Saturday, September 22 from 12:30–4 p.m. with a presentation at

1:30 entitled “Discovering Your Passions and Talents to Fulfill Your Life’s

Purpose”.

Rachel Barton Pine Returns for a Violin Recital

Rachel Barton Pine returns for a homecoming performance on Sunday,

September 23 at 3 p.m. She will warm the ballroom with her amazing tones

and dazzle with her virtuosity, closing with a special piece dedicated to

music patron Mary B. Galvin.

Garry Wills Explores What the Qur’an Meant

Pulitzer Prize winning author Garry Wills and a panel of Barrington area

ministers will discuss what the Qur’an meant and why it matters on Thurs-

day, September 27 at 1 p.m. Garry Wills, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus and

cultural historian at Northwestern University. His book, “Lincoln at Get-

tysburg”, received the Pulitzer Prize.

Discover Amazing American Art from Crystal Bridges Museum

On Sunday, October 14 at 3 p.m., noted art historian and professor, Gayle

Seymour, Ph.D., will present a slide lecture with highlights from the es-

teemed museum’s permanent collection, with tips on creating or expand-

ing your own collection from the museum’s founder, Walmart heiress Alice

Walton.

Explore the Calm and Beauty of Paintings by Bobbie and Steve Puttrich

Enjoy a free art exhibition and appetizers on Thursday, October 18 from

6–8 p.m. In this talented couple’s show, “Be Still,” the Puttriches’ find still-

ness and natural beauty in the people, places, and things around them

through their watercolors and oils.

Bring Your Kids for a Special Halloween Musical Performance

Get ready for a zany good time! Bring your primary-aged children (K-3)

dressed in their costumes for an interactive performance on Sunday, Oc-

tober 28 at 3 p.m. “A Night at the Costume Ball” features the singing and

dancing adventures of wacky witches, a broom, and some mischievous

elves attending Frankenstein’s ball.

Learn About Eliza Hamilton Through a One-Woman Historical Perfor-

mance

On Sunday, November 4 at 3 p.m., academic entertainer Barbara Rinella

brings to life the wife of Alexander Hamilton—Eliza Schuyler Hamilton.

Known across Chicagoland for her historical portrayals, Rinella explores

this beautiful, wealthy, and adventurous wife of an American founding

father.

A Night of Music Scholar’s Performances

ON JULY 24, 2018, students who have newly earned an Agnes Krueger Scholarship or did in a previous year gathered at Barrington’s White House to perform music ranging from Mozart and Alicia Keys to Broad-

way songs. The Agnes Krueger Scholarship Fund was initiated in 2011 and is offered each year to residents of Barrington 220. Krueger was a lifelong Barrington resident and her passion for music and the arts resulted in the establishment of this fund to assist qualified students in their pursuit of post-high school education in the field of music.

BHS alumna Katrina Lenk took home the award for Best Actress in a Musical in the 2018 Tony Awards. Lenk is currently starring in the Broadway production of “The Band’s Visit”, playing the role of Dina. In addition to her theater experience, she also has a broad range of TV appearances and she is an active musician who has played in several bands. During her time at BHS, she played the role of “Anita” in the 1993 production of “West Side Story”. She was also involved in Swing Choir. The Barrington 220 Educational Foundation featured Lenk in last fall’s Alumni Legends event, Standing Ovation.

Locally Filmed PSA on Suicide Prevention Debuts

SAMARITAN COUNSELING CENTER has partnered with Thomas Balsamo and Wade Balsamo of World Touch Produc-tions to help eliminate suicide in Barrington and beyond by

creating a Public Service Announcement that will encourage those con-templating suicide to get help, and also applaud those who reach out to help someone who is suicidal. The PSA is funded by the Barrington Area Community Foundation and contributions of many local benefactors. It is scheduled to debut on Samaritan’s website (www.sccnw.org) and Face-book page, as well as other local organizations’ websites on September 10, 2018, for National Suicide Prevention Week.
