Inspired by the design genius of Philippe Starck and the boutique style hotel offering of Ian Schrager’s Royalton Hotel in New York, art’otel was created by a small group of avid art collectors and entrepreneurs. Their vision was to develop a contemporary collection of hotels that fuse unique architectural style with art-inspired interiors.

Initially launched in Berlin, art’otel grew to include hotels in key German cities and the Hungarian capital Budapest, with each hotel paying homage to a signature contemporary artist. And now with the breathtaking destination art’otel amsterdam already wowing guests in the Dutch capital, art’otel is coming to London with a quirky new property in fashionable Hoxton.

We aim to inspire you and to encourage you to see life from a different perspective. We understand that everyone’s different, and we tailor our services accordingly.

art’otel berlin city center westJoin us in Berlin to admire many of Andy Warhol’s iconic ‘pop-art’ pieces, including unique portraits of movie stars, world leaders, soup cans and US emblems. Renowned for their contrasting colours and garish acrylic paints, Warhol’s masterpieces helped to defi ne a generation and they adorn our guestrooms and public areas. We’re proud also to display more than 200 photographs taken by Warhol’s lifelong friend Christopher Makos.

art’otel berlin mitteExperience the intensity and raw aggression of Georg Baselitz’s deconstructed art in Berlin. One of Germany’s most prolifi c and celebrated artists, Baselitz depicts landscapes, animals and the human form using complex neo-expressionist techniques. By breaking the visual image into parts and reconstructing it with fracture lines, Baselitz refl ects a tortured soul that struggled to conform. And by painting many works upside down, Baselitz further focuses the viewer on each painting’s pictorial merits.

art’otel dresdenCheck out the work of A.R. Penck, one of Germany’s most influential contemporary artists, in Dresden. Through an outstanding collection of large-format paintings, silk prints, sketches, wall reliefs and imposing sculptures, Penck gives pictorial expression to abstract thought processes using outlines of scientific biological and mathematical models reminiscent of family trees, cell groups and molecular structures.

art’otel budapestVisit Budapest to marvel at over 570 original works by leading American still-life artist, Donald Sultan. Known for his abstract style featuring close-ups of fl owers, fruit, dominoes and butterfl ies on huge canvases as well as breathtaking sculptures, Sultan combines minimalism with traditional painting to spectacular effect. Working with linoleum tiles and plywood, Sultan focused on three central thematic fi elds: the ‘industrials’, the ‘naturals’ and the ‘artifi cials’.

art’otel cologneHead to Cologne to immerse yourself in the colourful work of experimental artist SEO, who left Seoul to join Georg Baselitz in Berlin. Inspired by water, and especially the river which flows into the ocean and links everything together, she works primarily with hand-made Korean hanji rice paper. Each large-scale picture features at least 10,000 strips of paper on a minimum of five layers with over 791 different colours.
