Sound installations

Tamisages - 2010Various speakers, plywood, socle.

6 directive sounds (samples, noise, synth...) placed in the space. The use of reflective surfaces and the trajectories of the different speakers make the general sound evolve when visitors walk through the instal-lation. The bodies of the people in the space act like filters, and influence each other listening experiences.

Dans le fil - 2011Earmuffs, wood, coton thread, nylon thread, iron wire, steel springs.

By putting on the earmuffs on, the visitors were able to hear mecanical sounds activated by their move-ments. The system does not use any electronics, the sounds are directly transduced through the threads to the ears of the wearer.

Toile et Tôle - 2010Canevas, steel sheet, transducer, contact mic, plastic goblet.

These two pieces form together a sound painting dyptic . A feedback loop from the cotton canevas feeds the steel sheet, which vibrates and adds new sonorities.

Le son du mur - 20104 speakers.

The speakers are placed against the four walls of the room, there are all aiming at the center of the room except for one that is facing the wall. A little looping sequence of jazz music travels from one of them (mono), to a facing pair (stereo), to the last one (mono) wich is the one facing the wall.

Air - 20104 speakers, webcam.

The visitors that travel in the empty room are tracked with a camera, a programm triggers and modulates sounds (granular synthesis) depending on the placement and movement. The system illustrates how the air behaves when we move, by providing an audible consequence.

Perforations - 2011Various speakers, metal stands.

The speakers in this installation are facing various surfaces of the space like walls, floors or ceilings. Des-tructive samples are playing through them continuously, suggesting that the sound can affect matter phy-sically in a way usually invisible.

Saule - 20208 speakers, bass shaker, metal tray.

Saule is a sound sculpture whose behavior can be recognized as organic. The use of physical feedback loop combined with programmed randomness generates the sensation of an encounter with a living machine.

/dis/appointment - 2017Surround sound system, computer, smartphone, table, contact microphone.

DESCRIPTION :

“/dis/appointment” is a music piece performed being in the audience using OSC mes-sages to control a polyphonic granular synthesizer, using sound input from the public via concealed microphones. The processed sounds are spatialized using multiple speakers. The piece should start when the audience are unaware of it, therefore all lights need to be remain on at the beginning, the lighting will then change through the piece.For the speaker configuration something between 4 and 8 speakers should work fine, this would be interesting to check what are the needs for the other concerts in order to adapt accordingly: I still don’t want to make too obvious for the public so I don’t think we should add to much stuff. The microphones for the audience could either capture the sound from above or behind the seats.

This project has been founded by Thibaud Keller as a tribute to Ahmad Mansour, and became quickly a place for testing the most radical sound concepts. Ending in twisted covers and strange original music.

This trio plays freely instrumental versions of songs from Dick Annegarn, by adding their personnality to them using improvisational means.This results in a music that can be sometimes wild, so-metimes melancholic... There’s some kind of poetry out of it.

Prehensile sample

Electronic experimental music (2012)

‘‘Prehensile Sample’’ is a musical and theatrical project realized in the form of a 45-minute show by the composer Arthur Holliger. It is a three-movement play in which sound objects are staged as actors and will be the main actors in the story. The aim here is to create an electro-acoustic ecosystem through the use of various technical processes, such as interactive systems with sensors or unique acoustic treatments. The aim is to create an interdependence between the individual units and to develop a narrative around them.
