The lice are back – do they ever go? A few parents have mentioned that lice have returned and I ask all parents if they can be vigilant in the recommended treatment of lice. It may help too, if girls with shoulder length hair can ensure that this is always tied back in some way. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter. Whole School Transition and Prep Transition sessions All of the students will be participating in our second session of whole school transition this afternoon. This session will focus on the students getting to know new people in their 2015 level/grade and finding out from the teacher at that level what are some of the expectations. There has been a great deal of positive feedback since the first session started and I know the children are excited to go up to the next year level. I look forward to welcoming all 2015 Preps and their parents to our first transition session on Friday afternoon. It is an incredibly emotional time for parents as they realise that their child is now of school age and beginning their educational journey. We often have some tears at these sessions, but the children cope really well.

Michael O’Brien’s visit to Armadale Primary School We were very excited to have Michael O’Brien, Member for Malvern and our State Treasurer visit our school yesterday morning. Michael spent some time at Assembly speaking to the students about Government and his role, he assisted with the YCDI awards and spent some time with the highly engaging Prep students. A photographer was on hand from the Stonnington Leader so look out for next week’s newspaper in hard copy or online. Family Fun Night: Friday 21st November Make sure you have this date in the diary as this will be a fabulous night for the Armadale community. The gates will open at 5.00pm and there will be a range of activities, food and fun for the whole family. Gold coin donation at the gate! Look at Mish’s PFA section for more specific details and fingers crossed that the weather gods will be kind. Have a wonderful week.

Election Day Cake Stall The Election Day cake stall is fast approaching! Please start thinking about any baked goodies you can donate. Your information package will be going home with your eldest APS student in the week commencing the 24th November and it will have all the information and handy tips you need to get baking. If you have any time to spare on the Saturday 29th Election Day and you can help on the stall , please contact Michelle Moffat on 0419 601 788. Thank you so much ,it’s a big fundraiser opportunity for our school. Michelle Moffat Cake Stall Co-ordinator

Library News

Remembrance Day: One Minute’s Silence (David Metzenthen) and Jack’s Bugle (Krista Bell) have been added to the library which are both great resources that capture the importance of Remembrance Day. After School Borrowing and Library Club: Both of these occur every Thursday. Library Club for students at recess and Afterschool borrowing for everyone in the school community from 3:30-4:00pm. Time to check: Under the bed, in the toybox, in the cupboard, on the bookshelf, and anywhere a book can be for overdue Armadale Primary books to be returned. The last term always passes quickly and now is a good chance to see if your child has any of our books lying around. Happy reading, Brett Leyshan [email protected]

Thank you Tonga Once again I would like to express my great appreciation to Tonga Kelly (Jett’s dad) for helping the school out in such a valuable way. Our prep storage shed had the roof collapse a couple of weeks ago and Tonga has come to rescue to repair and reinstate it, making sure that the prep equipment stays safe and dry. Thank you so much Tonga.

Assistant Principal Walk to School Month Thank you and congratulations to all of the students who participated in Walk to School Month in October. I have entered all the data collected and our results were: Number of students participating 321 = 86% of the total student population, and we had a total of 3836 walks for the month. This was a great effort, and I will be issuing certificates to all the students who participated in the program during October. We may be in the running for some prizes from Vic Health and I will keep you informed if I hear anything. Nude Food Logos Our fabulous Visual Arts teacher Lucy Gorman has been working with a number of our students to produce a new logo to display our 100% Nude Food status. This is something we can then use in a range of stationery and documents to give that status more impact. There were so many great designs it will be very hard to choose. I will seek assistance from some experts and when we have chosen we will present the winning design at assembly and print it in the Newsletter. National Recycling Week During the ICT sessions this week we have been focusing on National Recycling Week. The children have explored a range of online resources to further develop their understanding of the recycling process and the importance of minimising our resource use. Gardening Group I have included a couple of photos of the Senior Gardening Group to show what we

have been up to. We have been weeding the vegetable beds in preparation for the summer vegie crop, and trimming and watering plants in the habitat garden.

The photo above shows the flowering tea trees in the Habitat Garden, which are proving to be very attractive to a range of insects and birds, an indication that our Habitat Garden is working as it was intended.

Riding and Scooting to School

It is very encouraging to see so many students riding and skating to school, as well as walking of course after our big Walk to School Month promotion during October. The photos here show the number of bikes and scooters that are coming to school. It is great that we now have so many racks to accommodate them all. It is also great to see a few staff bikes appearing on the staff racks, it’s nice to see them getting good use too.

Parents and Friends for Armadale

(PFA)

Hi everyone, I thought Halloween was just a few weeks ago but I must be mistaken for it seems Christmas is now upon us. The city is full of Festivus cheer with baubles and wreathes and all things red and green hanging from corporate offices and retailers alike but, alas and alak, it seems these tidings of good cheer do not extend to kindness in the home even with a “Santa might be watching” whisper in the ear. Neither have my pleas to start writing a letter to Santa come to any fruition, nor have my intentions to bake fruit cake …but I digress. Let’s all digress from Christmas for a moment and have FUN! Yes, the Family Fun Night is next week so get your bounce on, your plastic cups and blanket and camp chairs and get onto the new turf! The Sushi Stall will be bigger and better than ever with seafood salads now available as share plates, the BBQ will be sizzling as always and the hub of the party. Wine will be sold by the bottle from the ice bucket at $15 per drop and we’d like to run out all stock so bring a small sip and perhaps buy one for friends too. Once sold out, we’re out. Similarly with our bucket of beer (mostly lights but you can forage for a quality import at bargain prices). Icy Poles sold from the kitchen at 7pm ensures a smooth exit so come and see us, all your friends and let the kids bounce the night away on the castle while you catch up. We ask a gold coin donation on entrance to cover the cost of all things bounce and cash at reasonable prices for all food – look out for the flyer in bags next week and of course last minute tiqbiz reminder. We will also be asking for volunteers on the evening for supervision and stall helpers – always fun so please don’t be shy. Here are some more dates for end of year fun: Icy Pole Friday – What’s not to

love? $1 for a lickity good treat!

Family Fun Night – Friday 21 November – 5.00-7.30pm. Oops, yep, that’s locked in, just need to collect the coinage

Election Day Cake Stall and BBQ – Saturday 29 November – all day…until sold out that is…

Family Fun Night – Friday 21 November from 5.00-7.30pm It’s $3.00 hand rolls $3.00 rice paper rolls $10.00 seafood salad plate $3.00 sausage A tipple? Cheep cheep cheep like a birdie as are the Icy Treats! More to come! Easy, Peasy, Tomato Sauce Squeezy! Let your kids do the math for you with CASH! and help our lovely Mat Sweetlove out with using real money in his plea last year at info. night because not only is he funny but his maths will make us money! And specially for the prep parents, don’t forget the Prep Art Auction. The little prep elves have been creating their gorgeous class masterpieces which are currently at the framers getting ready for auction. Going... going.... gone.

Election Day Cake Stall and BBQ – Saturday 29 November Caramelised onions in the slow cooker? Done and sorted. Baker, Relisher, or Slicer? Just wait for the call to action. Stay tuned, we will be asking for volunteers to help on stalls during the day. Great break from the kids as they swing and weave on the dome and monkey bars with friends.

Fun Run update – Final monies yet to come in for tally Please check the kitchen bench for any further sponsorship monies. Nicki is so proud that we’re at the 70% response rate after her call to action. She’d like to personally thank everyone who has taken the time to check, sort and return monies after the due date. Keep it coming please. She also can’t wait to draw the raffle at next week’s assembly. While some classes cannot attend every child who is drawn will receive their prize if in attendance or not.

Tomorrow at 2.30pm in the staff room is our second to last PFA meeting for this year. Pam Johnston is coming, are you? We’d love to see some more new faces at the table.
