Taylor Swift is by nomeans the only

person to put a lot of value on their pinTAYLOR Swift might have in-sured her legs for £26m, but Brit-ish workers also put high pricetags on their body parts.

The average Welsh worker val-ues their legs at £958,175, whichis 7.5 per cent higher than the UKaverage of £891,408

The average builder thinks theirlegs would be worth £1,185,000 forbeing crucial tools of their trade.

Engineers and lawyers are evenmore precious about their limbs,putting their worth at £1.2m. Tel-ecoms workers value their legsmore highly still at £1.9m.

Doctors and nurses would askfor £1,140,000 and the averageshop worker, traditionally ontheir feet a lot, valued their legsat £1,045,000.

The research, conducted byinsurance firm There, asked 2,000professionals across 20 differentindustries to put an insurancevalue on different body parts tohighlight their impact on earningpotential.

In Wales eyes were the mostvalued, followed by face, handsthen legs.

Engineers top the tables with an

insurance value on their eyes of £3.4m, followed by plumbers andelectricians at £3.1m and telecomsworkers at £2.6m.

Plumbers and electricians alsoput one of the highest price tagson their hands at £2.2m, withtheir index finger alone beingworth £1,196,107 in compensation.

Philippa McLaglen, marketingmanager from There, said: “Tay-lor Swift insuring her legs isn’tas mad as it sounds. They’re partof the ‘Taylor Swift’ brand and soaffect her earning power.

“Similarly damage to a builder’sleg or an engineer’s eye wouldhave a big impact on theirearning potential. Being fit andhealthy is crucial to an individu-al’s ability to do their job, whichis why, despite so many other fi-nancial pressures, one in four ourstudy has considered insuringthemselves against being unableto work due to injury. With finan-cial protection, anything is betterthan nothing if you get injuredand can’t do your job.”

In fact 75 per cent of designerssaid they wouldn’t be able to dotheir job if they injured their

hands or arms, making the £1.4minsurance price tag they’d placeon them understandable.

And 77 per cent of the hospital-ity industry also admitted theycouldn’t do their jobs if theyinjured their hands.

The research also showed adifference between self-employedand employed workers.

Self-employed people valuedtheir bodies even more highly.

This is reflected in the fact thatthe self-employed are more likelyto think insurance against injuryis a sensible precaution (57 percent v 45 per cent) and that 64 percent of them feel more pressureto take care of their physicalwell-being because they are self-employed.

Philippa McLaglen added: “Theself-employed are especially atrisk and feel the pinch more thanthose who have the safety net of an employer that provides sickpay.
