AR 350-1 TRAINING Updated 20 April 2012 Purpose: This document outlines all the tasks unit personnel must train on annually. This document should assist unit leaders with the allocation of scarce resources, especially Soldier time. Key to note is the fewer number of tasks for officers CPT and above, warrant officers CW3 and above, and NCOs MSG and above. The unit training focus below these grades will be heavily weighted toward AWT, while training for these more senior personnel should be focused on leader development and duty specific tasks. Understanding this is of particular value to leaders of headquarters units. Unit Status Reporting (USR) statistics should be adjusted to more accurately reflect AR 350-1 training levels. Description: Army Warrior Training (AWT) has three parts: 1) Warrior Tasks, 2) Warrior Leader Tasks, and 3) Warrior Battle Drills. AWT tasks are broken down into critical individual tasks. Not all personnel are required to complete the same number of tasks. AR 350-1 states that AWT is required only for lieutenants, WO1s and CW2s, and enlisted personnel SFC and below. These personnel must train on the critical individual tasks associated with skill level 1 AWT, the battle drills, and the leader tasks for their skill level. Note: Assumes lieutenants, WO1s, and CW2s must train on skill level 4 tasks. There are 72 AWT critical individual tasks (70 for Soldiers with a pistol as their individual weapon) with 18 (16 for Soldiers with a pistol as their individual weapon) of these required for all personnel, regardless of rank: a) 7 critical individual tasks associated with the "React to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Attack/Hazard" Warrior Task. These are the same tasks required by "CBRN Defense Training" in Table G-1. b) 1 critical task associated with “React to Man-to-Man Contact” Warrior Task. This is the same task required by “Modern Army Combatives Program” in Table G-1. Note: Some Soldiers have permanent profiles and may not safely participate in Modern Army Combatives. The current certification program makes no adjustment to standards of performance and evaluation to accommodate profiles. Soldiers may train without certifying, but only within the limits of their profile. Combatives instructors should work with unit medical personnel to determine what activities are within an individual Soldier’s limitations to avoid unnecessary injury. i

AR 350-1 TRAININGUpdated 20 April 2012

Purpose: This document outlines all the tasks unit personnel must train on annually.

Description:

Army Warrior Training (AWT) has three parts: 1) Warrior Tasks, 2) Warrior Leader Tasks, and 3) Warrior Battle Drills.

There are 72 AWT critical individual tasks (70 for Soldiers with a pistol as their individual weapon) with 18 (16 for Soldiers with a pistol as their individual weapon) of these required for all personnel, regardless of rank:

a) 7 critical individual tasks associated with the "React to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Attack/Hazard" Warrior Task.

Combatives instructors should work with unit medical personnel to determine what activities are within an individual Soldier’s limitations to avoid unnecessary injury.

c) 10 critical individual tasks (8 for Soldiers with a pistol as their individual weapon) associated with the "Shoot/Maintain, Employ, and Engage with Assigned Weapon" Warrior Task. These are the same individual weapons training requirements Soldiers must perform to qualify with their assigned weapon IAW DA PAM 350-38

Warrior Battle Drills consist mostly of critical individual tasks from skill level 1 AWT, but there are 11 critical individual tasks specific to battle drill training.

All AC Soldiers, regardless of rank, are required to complete the remaining 18 individual tasks (15 if not deploying that year) listed in Table G-1 of AR 350-1. Soldiers in the reserve component (RC) are required to train on one additional task for a total of 19 individual tasks (16 if not deploying that year).

Note: Equal Opportunity (EO) training now consists of three mandatory training events, rather than the four outlined in AR 350-1. The EO Program training requires two semi-annual events. ALARACT 123-2011 superseded AR 350-1, eliminating the once annually Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH)

i

and once annually Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) training. These events were replaced it with annual Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) training.

Note: Assumes leader training consists only of those tasks associated with the Soldier's skill level and does not include the tasks of lower skill levels (e.g. a SFC is required to train only on skill level 4 leader tasks and is assumed to be able to perform skill levels 2 and 3).

Recommendation

Although AR 350-1 specifies that some Soldiers complete only Table G-1 tasks, it is recommended that ALL personnel complete the skill level 1 Warrior Tasks and that all leaders train on all skill levels at their level and below. If hands-on training cannot be completed, leaders should at least review the Soldier’s Manual of Common Tasks and/or review the tasks using distributed learning (DL) resources. Leader development programs should include some hands-on Warrior Task Training to maintain critical skills, build teamwork, and maintain morale in the organization. Examples of programs for consideration: EIB training, officer certification, Best Officer Competition, “Gunga Din” program, Spur Ride program, and officer platoon training program.
