AP United States History Summer Assignment 2019 Welcome to class! Congratulations on the commitment of your time and energy to APUSH, class has started! This will be a demanding course; a course that will challenge your mind and engage all of your faculties over the year. Our time is very limited during the school year. Thus, we have to begin our studies over the summer. This assignment, as well as other key items, can be found on Google Classroom. Using your school email account, use class code fo3xxps to join. Assignments 1 & 2 will help you prepare for the entire school year and should be a review of what you have already learned in past classes. These assignments should be able to be completed in a day or two each. Assignment 3 is lengthier and will provide you with a look at the amount of work you will be assigned each week in APUSH that you will have to manage along with that of your other classes. Each week, you will have the Guided Reading Packet, MC Questions, 2 SAQs, and Thinking Like a Historian, and every 2-4 weeks you will have to complete the Historical Terms Sheet. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected], as I will be checking my email occasionally throughout the summer. Your assignment will have three parts, and all must be handwritten: 1. Maps (25 points total) Due Wednesday, September 4 th . o You will need to label and memorize the names of the states, the major lakes and rivers, mountains, and other bodies of water listed below. o I have provided a couple of map options for you to choose which works best for you. You do not need to complete all three, just make sure that the one you select has all of the requirements and is neat. o There will be a test on this on the due day! o Map Requirements: o All 50 States- abbreviation is fine for the map, but you will need to write the entire state out somewhere on the map, or include another sheet of paper with the full name and their abbreviation. o Bodies of Water: § Atlantic Ocean § Pacific Ocean § Caribbean Sea § Gulf of Mexico § Great Lakes (Label all 5 with their proper name) § Missouri River § Mississippi River § Ohio River § Columbia River § Snake River § St. Lawrence River o Regions/Other Items: § Appalachian Mountains § Rocky Mountains § Great Basin § Great Plains § Tidewater Region

1.1. Native American Populations I. Diverse native societies adapted to their environments. 

A. Maize cultivation in Mexico & American Southwest supported communities. B. Great Basin & grasslands were arid, so communities were mobile. C. Northeast, Mississippi River, and Atlantic coast communities practiced a mix of

 1.2. The Columbian Exchange 

I. Arrival of Europeans in the Americas led to massive changes for Europe. A. Europeans motivated by wealth accumulation, spreading Christianity, and 

conquering territory (god, gold, & glory). B. New crops from Americas increased pop in Europe, shifted feudalism to capitalism. C. Better technology led to more trade facilitated by joint-stock companies.
