Kidderminster

Carriage Works - make your way across the West Midlands Railway carpark to the Carriage Works, where our historic fleet of carriages are maintained and restored. A number of model railways will be on display in this amazing building. Opening times; 9.30am-5pm on Saturday, and 9.30am-4pm on Sunday (last entry 30 minutes before closing).

Signalbox - our busy signal box at Kidderminster will be open for visits. Please wait at the end of the platform adjacent to the signal box, and you will be escorted across the line. Open from 10am-4.30pm.

Railway Museum - explore the exhibits, ‘have a go’ in Wrangaton Signalbox and explore the photographic archive with over 250,000 images to browse. Plus, on Saturday evening at 7.30pm, join Rob Foxon who will be showing his original 16mm film; ‘Railways Remembered’ (additional £5 charge applies).

Coalyard Miniature Railway - take a trip on our 7.25 inch gauge miniature railway, with real steam locomotives.

Stallholders - the concourse will host a number of traders, specialising in model railways, memorabilia and other railway artefacts.

Bewdley

Carriage & Wagon Yard - a short walk from the platforms, the yard adjacent to the goods shed will be open for you to see the ongoing restoration work on coaches and wagons.

Highley

Signalbox - overlooking the station, take a look inside the Signalbox. Open from 10am-4.30pm.

The Engine House, HighleyHome to our reserve collection of full-size steam locomotives, the stunning Engine House Centre at Highley takes you on a fascinating journey behind the scenes. Most of the model railway exhibits will be situated here, alongside brand-new exhibitions and the ‘Locomotive Repair Clinic’ where our experts can take a look at your 4mm and 7mm engines that need a bit of TLC. Meet the Station Team from Eardington Halt who have many stories to tell, and see their fascinating lamp display (Saturday only). Opening times; 10.30am-6pm on Saturday, and 10.30am-5pm on Sunday (last entry 30 minutes before closing).

Hampton Loade

The Paddock Railway - our extensive 32mm scenic outdoor layout at Hampton Loade will be operating on Sunday with a fine selection of steam locomotives in service.

Behind the scenes - visit the Barry Coach to see the ongoing restoration work that is taking place and view our amazing collection of 20th century railway crests.

Bridgnorth

Motive Power Depot - the Locomotive Shed, Boilershop and Workshop will be open for visits, with blacksmithing demonstrations in the Boiler Shop. An area not usually open to the public, you will have the chance to explore the locomotive engineering hub of the Railway where a variety of work is required to keep our fleet of locomotives in service. Open from 10am, with last entry at 4pm.

Signalbox - situated on Platform 1, please wait at the bottom of the stairs for a host to escort you into the box. Open from 10am-4.30pm.

Model Shop - visit our model shop at Bridgnorth for loads of great deals on our extensive range of Bachmann.

Special Attractions

Kidderminster Carriage Works82G – an award winning ‘0’ gauge finescale, super-detailed ex GWR/LMS locomotive shed layout, set in the period between 1940 and 1968. With well over 100 hand-built locomotives fitted with sound, how many will you be able to spot? With thanks to The 82G Group.

Arfbric Mine – an American narrow gauge mining town in ‘G’ gauge, set in the early 1900s. All buildings and rolling stock are scratch-built, with DCC and radio controlled locomotives. With thanks to Charlie Fox-Wilson.

Badgers Mill – be transported to France, Germany and Switzerland with this ‘G’ scale railway, modelled on one metre gauge railways in Europe. With thanks to Roy Peddar.

Ballymungret – the transition from steam to diesel in the 1950s on the Great Northern Railway in Ireland; Ballymungret is a fictitious location situated in Eire, just south of Dundalk. With thanks to Hackworth Model Railway Group.

Beckton – the West Coast Mainline in Cumbria from 1989 to 1993, the Station sees regular Intercity and regional passenger services, as well as a variety of freight workings. With thanks to Stephen Beck.

The Engine House, HighleyArley & Highley – the Severn Valley Railway in ‘00’ scale, how much do you recognise? With thanks to Birmingham Model Railway Club.

Berrybridge – a typical BR London Midland Region cross country station in the Derby area, and built in just 75 hours to a budget of £400! With thanks to Paul Appleton.

Bumf Mine – the mine produces paper which is then made into unnecessary paper goods; Government forms and leaflets, unsolicited mail and toilet paper. With thanks to Martin Rich.

Burlish Road – 1950s BR Western Region branchline terminus set in Worcestershire, with a small goods yard and locomotive shed. The layout can also depict a fictional extension of the Severn Valley Railway towards Stourport. With thanks to The Bewdley MPD 0 Gauge Modellers.

Campbell’s Quarry – a quirky industrial model based around two sandpits, each with its own radio-controlled digger; one with dragline, the other with a face shovel, linked by a narrow gauge railway. With thanks to John Campbell.

Cheadle Ridge Lane – a fictitious TMD depicting the 1990s to the present day; the model features locomotives and freight trains from the Railfreight years, right up to DRS workings. With thanks to Steven Lindley.

Coton on Dove – somewhere on the North Staffordshire Railway; the layout depics an interchange between a 2ft 3in gauge tramway and the standard gauge branch, set in the 1920/30s. With thanks to Clive Baker.

Earl’s Court – set in the heart of London, the model assumes that the LMS and GWR had built their own joint station at Earl’s Court, enabling services to be diverted away from Euston and Paddington. With thanks to Terry Tew.

Frimley North – there’s plenty to see at the fictional LB&SCR terminus station, with a bay platform, goods yard and an unusually large shed! With thanks to Matthew Lander & Ben French.

Hampton End – a small branchline saved by preservationists serving a small village, and now running foreign engines and stock. With thanks to Dale Gillard.

It’s All White – it’s deep winter on the moors, and the double mainline, junction and goods yard are under a blanket of snow. With thanks to Owain Jenkins.

Kings Brandell – ‘009’ scale narrow gauge layout, depicting land being quarried for stone used for track ballasting. The railway now runs as a preserved attraction. With thanks to Peter Hardy.

Malton Road – ‘00’ gauge country station in the Scarborough area, with surround sound. With thanks to Dave Milford.

Reely Grate, Primrose Hill & Much Works – Three ‘0’ gauge micro-layouts, depicting small yards serving manufacturing companies in and around Dudley, Pensnett and Himley on the Earl of Dudley Railway. With thanks to Tim Johnson & Ken Jones

Ryders Green Wharf – at the heart of the Birmingham Canal Navigations, the wharf is the distribution point of a small industrial estate. With thanks to Peter Cullen.

Sandford Road Junction – a preserved railway based in the heart of Herefordshire in ‘N’ gauge, running alongside the North & West mainline. With thanks to Saul Jones.

Scrich Tramway – the tramway museum at Crich, but with a Scottish twist! With thanks to Dave Haughton.

Smallwood – it’s 1976 in a small English town with a terminal station; the railway has seen little investment and the strains of industrial unrest are starting to show. With thanks to The Redditch Model Railway Club.

Snowy River Railroad – a factious railroad set between Over There and Nowhere in Maine, USA, with station, depot and turntable. With thanks to Daventry Model Railway Club.

Treloar Sidings – the terminus of one of the branches that wound their way around the clay producing area north of St Austell, generally ending in remote and barren areas. With thanks to Luton Model Railway Club.

Trinity Dock Street Bridge – a model railway layout based on the lines around the town docks area of Hull, set pre-WW2 on a dank dark February in 1939. With thanks to Gavin Rose.

West Hill Wagon Works – take a nostalgic trip back to the workings British Rail provided the National Coal Board; the backbone of the once thriving Coal Industry. With thanks to Christopher Bower.

Falling Sands fundraising appeal success We’re delighted to announce that, thanks to the donations of thousands of supporters, we have succeeded in raising £397,000 towards the project to restore Falling Sands Viaduct. We’re waiting to hear from the National Lottery Heritage Fund about our bid for a further £1 million for this project. Please come and see us on the concourse at Kidderminster during Open House weekend, where you can see some of our exciting plans to develop a mobile exhibition inside the Stove R van about the early days of the Railway.
